Wisconsin Fences, Farms, and Barns

Right at the edge of one of the three villages that lie equidistant from our home, lies a house hidden behind this monstrous fortress/fence. I didn't see any guard dogs there, and no barbed wire, but it looks intimidating enough at first glance. The vine on the trellis betrays a little friendliness, however, so I'm not too worried.

Quite the front 'entry' with its roof and gigantic ants crawling on the wall to the side of the door.

Painting his fence in the late winter??  Nah, that's just a little trompe l'oeil.  Don't you love it?!  The owner, as seen around town, gives the appearance of abject poverty. Don't let that fool you either. It's a little live 3-dimensional trompe l'oeil, if you ask me. The story is that he sold something in Chicago some years back and made a fortune. He simply chooses to live frugally and have fun with his property.

The neighbor's horses. The wind must be coming from the southeast. They always stand facing away from the wind.

Late winter. Not much to graze on out here.

Wow, that first fence is a real study in individualism. Thanks for sharing. Have a great day!

So you live in a quirky neighborhood? Ahhh, don't we all!

BTW, I thought you were kidding me with that cardinal song, but after hearing it on my walk this morning, I'm pretty sure that you aren't. Either that or you're in cahoots with a cardinal in Maine. I can be such a conspiracy theorist.

I would love to have a fortress fence around my place like this. bob and i have talked about what we would do if we had the money, and what he has done is what we would do but not in snow country and NO ANTS. live or fake... love the horse and farm pics.

What an interesting fence/gate/entry! The owner sounds rather interesting too.

That first arch or gate is odd, isn't it? But I like things unique and love the one with the ants. I would probably not even notice the ants at first glance! Enjoy your day! It's in the 80s here all week! Come on down! Sweet hugs!

The 'fortress' one is interesting. Love the barn.

HI Judy Are animals clever. How come they always seem to know what to do and humans don't!! I love all the varied fences you have on this post.

Good fences make good neighbors. I am not crazy for those gates...odd. At least it isn't those bent over fat lady cutouts. LOL. Those things are fun for the BACK yard....not the front. I used to tease my mom...that is was good she was poor or she would have all that lawn art "stuff". Enjoy your day. xoxo,Susie

That is an amazing gate and fence. Definitely wants privacy!!
I grew up in Madison, so it is always nice to meet someone from Wisconsin. Hope the snow all melts soon!

The fortress put me in mind of a fort from an old western movie! But it is not an eyesore, so why not!

That first fence is most unusual!
Youngest daughter went to UW Madison. She and her Wis hubby are awfully excited about the basketball game this weekend...which is being played right here in north Texas.

Great photos, even the last winter scene. I do enjoy the hint of mystery and would seek some answers too, in a fairy tale sort of way. Bravo to that man as well!

I love it that the fence is someone's thinking and art that is out of the box! Wish I knew the artist!

That first fence is a little over the top but I simply love the painting.
We just welcomed our fourth Grandchild earlier this month. Enjoy your visit.

It reminds me of a cowboy fort I had as a child.
