Vintage Frankoma Pottery Prairie Green

Frankoma was founded by John Frank in Norman, Oklahoma, in 1933. Frank had been a professor in ceramics at the University of Oklahoma at Norman from 1927 to 1936 and used light-hued local Ada clay in his initial products. - From Wikipedia

I found this Frankoma Prairie Green canteen, Thunderbird design, last year at a shop in Colfax. Remember Colfax? It's on the way to Colfax that I found that herd of Highland Cattle. Photos HERE. But I digress.  Anyway, I liked the green and rusty color of the pottery and the shape of the canteen...

...and the sweet little creamer that stands about 4 1/2 inches.

And when the roofers appeared with this cute little wagon the other day, I immediately saw Frankoma pottery.

It just needs a nice satin finish.

Can you see it??

Our Local Village Gunsmith

I'm seeing Frankoma Prairie Green pottery everywhere!

So I don't exactly have a collection, but I do like the two pieces I have. Do you have collections - of anything? tiny collections? vast collections?

I have a small, but exceedingly odd, collection of mortars and pestles, but I'm really best at collecting stories.

Love the old wagon with its wonderful mixtures of colours and also the withered leaf shot. Lovely milk hog.

Attractive pottery and, yes, I can see the similarity with the trailer - I'm not observant enough to spot that kind of thing. I'm more of a hoarder than a collector!

I like the thunderbird design very much......and the fashionable distressed paintwork on the wagon!

Happy Tuesday!

I do see it. I collect pottery that I find on my 'treasure hunts'and now have quite a nice collection. I especially love pottery mugs and tea-cups. I love everything to be useful. You have me thinking it's been awhile so I just may go on a hunt soon. :) I love your two pieces. Deb

With all of those wonderful photos, you just increased your collection, and yes - I can see it, too!

I have a small collection of teapots that have cats on them, or shaped like them. I have a collection of Cats Meow buildings that I am quickly getting tired of (after 15 years). For Christmas, I have a collection of Angels, Santas, and Snowmen.

Maybe we can call our four (real) cats a collection? :)

Indeed!!! I agree. The colors you have shared in your photos are truly identical to your pottery.

And by the way, I think turquoise and brown shades are great in clothing too. [as is purple and turquoise].

What a fun post, picking out the colors of the pottery in things around you. My daughter collects pitchers, and she would love to have that little one of yours.

Yes, I DO see it. I love that old wagon and the gunsmith shop. I have a collection of ironstone that kind of 'arrived' here from family members. ie. inherited. I do buy the odd piece though but don't go on the hunt for it as I have too much stuff now. I love the colours in the pottery you have and in nature. Beautiful!

Judy, I love pottery and I really love those colors in Frankoma. Now I will be on the lookout for it! I collect Ayers Pottery. I found it on a trip to Minnesota. We stopped in Hannibal Missouri and when I saw Steve Ayers pretty and relatively inexpensive pottery I had to have some and I have added to it over the years. I also collect Louisville Stoneware in Bachelor Button pattern. China and Pottery are my weaknesses.

I don't know that pottery maker at all but it is GORGEOUS! It looks Old World to me and is just beautiful!!

I also see the beauty in that old trailer the roofers have. I have several "collections"...lol but I am trying to pare some of them down. Dishes are my downfall! xo Diana

I DO see it! You have a sharp and artistic eye! And I have never seen such a fancy canteen! It is art on a canteen. I collect rocks, shells, marbles, and seasonal decor! My brain is collection minded!

I do see it! I think you need to buy some more pottery! The colors in these photos are awesome, especially that tone of green against the tans.

Gosh I am so out of touch - I have never heard of Frankoma Prairie Green pottery - but I do understand what it is now thanks to you. Love your crisp beautiful photos.

Your pieces are lovely, I do like the rustic colours.
My husband has a large collection of
Robert Harrop Dandy and Beano collectables. They are ceasing production this year and in a way I am pleased as we have no room for anymore:)

Love your post! The Frankoma pottery is very pretty, so are the rest of your pictures. I have too many random collections, vintage glass pitchers, milk bottles, creamers, blue glass, vintage sewing patterns, Vintage fashion illustrations, and if they weren't so expensive I would also collect old houses. :)

Beautiful pottery pieces and very nice shot of the cows!
I collect greeting cards. My collection is always growing with thrift store finds and cards found in grocery stores and everywhere else, but I use them, so hopefully my collection won't become too large.

Wow! I see what you mean. Now I will think of Frankoma when I see those colors/pattern! Maggie

I have so many collection that I'm embarrassed to talk about them. Do you know there is/was a Frankoma factory less than 30 minutes from Tulsa in a town called Sapulpa? I don't know if it is still open or not. We went there once and you could go thru and tour the process. Needless to say, there's a lot of Frankoma around here at sales. Will keep my eyes open for you.

Green and brown are a great color combination! That is lovely pottery. I have a small collection of salt-glazed pottery, grey with blue slip decorations.

I have a couple of Frankoma ware bean pots that my folks got on a trip to OK years ago. Mine don't have the green though. My favorite collection is a bunch of candle holders of the "Wee Willy Winkie" type, reminders of times gone by, for sure.

looks interesting.

I should take a picture of, and post, an old box I have. I think it belonged to my great-grandmother. I think it's a jewelry box, but not sure. I don't want to get rid of it, but would like to know the value of it.

Although I don't spend that much money these days on things as the house is at bursting point, I like to think that I am / was a collector but like Mike says, some consider it hoarding !
