Wisconsin Barns, Sunshine, and Winter Reflections

 Wisconsin Barn - Ours
Early Morning, December 29

After 19 consecutive days of gray dreariness, we've seen the sun at last. We're in the dark, cold days of winter, so seeing the sunshine is an immense boost. Of course it also means that the temperature is likely to drop pretty low tonight.

Truck Waiting for Mid Day Corn Transfer

A huge combine is roaring its way through an adjacent corn field. Here a tractor and wagon are transferring the corn to the waiting truck. See those shadows? That means sunshine! In fact, it was so bright that it was hard to get a decent photo. I am not complaining. I love that bright sunshine!

Now we're coming to the time of year when it gets really cold and dry. The snow squeaks beneath your booted feet and the boards of the boardwalk sound hollow when you walk on them. I don't mind the cold when there's no wind. We are blessed with wood to burn to keep the house warm. Of course, that doesn't mean that I don't wear polar fleece nearly every day in the winter.

Some of us love the snow.

I also am in no rush to take down the Christmas tree. The added cheer of the lights and ornaments helps during the dark weeks (months).

There is a reason they delay the airing of Downton Abbey in Wisconsin until January. ;-)

The snow makes everything look so spectacular and in a sense, cozy. My lights will stay on until New Years Day and then the big clean up will begin but still with winter coziness in mind. Have a very Happy New Year my lovely x

Beautiful views and I love the barn. At least you have snow that makes it feel cozy. We don't have much left around our place so we look out a brown for now. It is -15C (3F) this morning after a week of 'milder' weather. Tree's still up here. Enjoy!

Judy, I see you are looking forward to Downton Abbey...airs here on Jan. 4th among other shows I like. Loved your pictures...especially the one with the sunset reflected in the window. Hope it doesn't get too cold, as I know it surely can in that part of the country.

Oh dear, what gorgeous pictures! I would love to see those sites this morning! Enjoy your day dear friend, HUGS!

I enjoyed your sunny, snowy view. We too had the bright sunshine on Monday. Although the sun was shinning on a total brown landscape. We have seen a few flakes in the air but nothing staying on the ground since November end. Our temperatures dropped last evening bringing in a very cold winter morning . . .
We tape Downton Abbey so we can watch the season as a movie. Looking forward to seeing the new and the familiar . . .
Happy New Year to Cranberry Morning . . .

We are SO looking forward to Sunday night and Downton Abbey!!

Judy, it looks so cold there! I just can't imagine living in the cold again. I'm putting on a sweater and jacket when it is in the 60s!! The views from your deck and windows are all so beautiful. I really do miss farmland (sometimes). Your photos make me feel homesick...but in a good way!

What a gorgeous view. We have the very same weather as you today. Cold but sunny. I, too, don't mind the cold if there is no wind. Your tree was beautiful at Christmas and I'm sure you will enjoy looking at it a little longer. We need all the 'twinkling and colour' that we can find over the long winter. I've enjoyed your blog so much, Judy over the past year and look forward to more in 2015. "Happy New Year." Deb

Gorgeous country views, even if they look a bit chilly...I have to enjoy the winter where ever I can find it...we get lots of rain in the winter. May your 2015 be beyond blessed!

my favorite shot is the truck doing circles in the snow... and of course the sweetie who loves snow.. the shot of your window is beautiful with the sun in it. i did not know if the sun shines it means it will get colder...

it continues to be very gray and dreary here as well Judy. The Sunny South seems far away!! I will probably work on taking everything down today and tomorrow. I do leave lots of candles out and light them to dispel the darkness.

love that you were excited to see the shadows. and i could 'hear' the snow crunching underfoot as i read your words. :)

Lovely photos: they show the cold days of winter well. I love the squeak of snow but not the cold that accompanies it. It's bitter cold here this morning -25 with wind chill. I'm staying inside!

It's been dreary here too, but the sun is out today! Love those tracks in the snow. And, we can't wait for Downton Abbey to start again! We've been watching a few from last season off and on. Happy New Year!

Beautiful landscapes! We long for snow, but unfortunately it is warm and sunny now. It feels unhealthy and unnatural. I am looking at your dog and snow feeling jealous - I want there!

Love all the Winter photos. I can't wait for Downton Abbey to start. Happy New Year!

It sure looks cold even with the bright sunshine. I'm going to enjoy my decorations awhile longer, too! My house looks the prettiest during the holidays. Sweet hugs!

WONDERFUL POST!! All that snow makes me chilled to the bone...but ever so beautiful Judy
I wanted to stop by today to send along my best wished for you and your family in the year 2015. Happy New Year, and cheers.

I'm jealous of your winter landscape but it's snowing here finally and maybe the green grass will be covered. We haven't had a green Christmas for many years.
I like your reasoning as to why we have to wait until January for Downton Abbey, my hubby's already be warned I am not to be disturbed Sunday nights. :-)
Happy New Year.

Hi Judy,
It amazes me they are still working on harvesting corn. They are doing the same over here in Cameron. I am glad they can still get into the fields.
We keep some of our decorations up to brighten the dark days too.I will keep my village up into February, it is nice to have that twinkling light smiling at you on cold dark mornings.

It is so good to see the sun today!
YAY!!
Happy New Year
Carla

I love the truck and the combine out in the middle of the field, with all the tire circles around them. Beautiful light also. Such sun can be rare in the Christmas weeks. We are leaving our Christmas decorations up till mid February. We found out that we are not the only ones, and why not?

So beautiful and so different from our Texas landscape. Although we are having a cold spell that is wet with a chance of ice. I love polar fleece too, and would be wrapped head to toe every minute if I were in your boots! Your beautiful photos are certainly a bright light on a dreary day. Happy New Year!

Winter arrived in New York, too. It's going to be really cold waiting for the bus. I'm cheering myself with the thought of Downton, too. Happy and healthy new year wishes!

I, too, look forward to Downton Abby to brighten the winter!

Those are some bright and cheerful scenes in your corner of the world today! Postcard pretty, I think. Cold is never as cold in pictures as it is in real life.

With lower corn prices this year, many farmer are leaving their corn in the field, hoping that it will reduce drying expenses. Happy New Year. Tom The Backroads Traveller

It sure looks cold Judy but beautiful!!

Judy, I love seeing the snow and the sun.
So far we haven't had any snow, but much rain. I also prefer the cold without the wind. The sun is actually out today, making for a warm day. But, tomorrow the high is only going to be in the 50's. Which really doesn't sound too bad to me.

Stay warm and Happy new Year!

Such lovely snowy shots. The one with the red truck caught my eye.
We've not had much snow (thank goodness) here. It's sunny out today but as you said that can be deceptive as it's colder then blue blazes here right now.
Your dog looks happy though. Animals are weird like that.
We took our tree down last night. One of the cats had chewed through part of the lights so it was time.
Wishing you all a Happy New Year. It's beeen a pleasure blogging with you this year.
