Wausau: Family, Art, Christmas Decorations

From 'Birds in Art' exhibition
Leigh Yawkey Woodson Art Museum
Wausau

The end of November we visited our daughter's family in Wausau, and while there, also got to see the wonderful 'Birds in Art' exhibition at the Leigh Yawkey Woodson Art Museum. The painting above was one of my favorites, but there were so many to choose from. And yes, I had permission from the museum guide to take the photo. It seemed very odd to take photos of the works there, but when I asked if I could use the notepad on my cell phone to make a note of the artist, she said, 'You can use your cell phone to take pictures, if you want.' I was shocked. And thrilled, I might add!  Okay, here's one more:

We had a great time seeing grandkids and their parents.  The Leigh Yawkey Woodson Art Museum, by the way, has a great children's room with all sorts of exciting and hands-on things to do to introduce children to the wonderful world of art. (See photo bottom right. Henry and Mom.)

Yes, that was a piano! (upper left)

A fun shop in Wausau, Evolutions, was decorated in their typical over-the-top fashion for Christmas. It's hard to take in even a portion of it all, but so much fun to walk through the jungle of creative decorations.

Letters made from books. And when the grandson saw a drawer full of very small book letters, he said, 'Look Mom, they even have lower case!'

Hello, what a lovely post. Your grand children and family are beautiful. The museum sounds like a fun visit with the family. The Christmas decorations and Birds in Art are lovely. I like the Crane piece. We had temps in the 70's yesterday and warm today too, no snow in sight.
Happy Monday, enjoy your new week!

I do feel bad for the ski resorts when they don't get the snow they need to bring skiers and business their way....but I don't care to ever see snow in person again. I love the photos you shared and thank you for asking if you could take a photo of the artwork in the museum. We only allow it in certain galleries, more for copyright issues than anything. The Christmas decorations are a wonderland indeed! Fun times!

Now I want to play light sabres too! I've never seen 'making snow' so that was interesting and all of the holiday photos and the gorgeous paintings...what a fun post : )

I like those light sabres too! What fun you have with family close by for the holidays. Maybe you'll get snow this week! Hugs, Diane

Hey, now you are in my "neck of the woods." I live like 20 miles from Wausau. Birds in Art is a wonderful exhibit that the Leigh Yawkee museum hosts each year beginning in Sept. Evolutions is such an awesome store and floral shop. Randy, the owner went to high school with me. He is from Ringle. His parents have come and "picked" my stuff for him a time or two years back when I had my shop open monthly. No snow making on Rib Mountain lately...too warm and rainy...I'm not complaining tho...

you were about an hour from 'home' for me. :) yup, dicky bird is right there in marathon county, too. :)

thanks for the dose of wisconsin and lots of sweet family fun.

Those are quite the decorations. How could your eyes take it all in! I'm thinking the highlight of the time was time with your sweet grands, though. It sounds like your winter so far is a bit mild too.

Wonderful pics. You can tell what a good time you had. My fave pic is the little girl in pink at the window. Enjoy your week, Judy!

Oh my, this post is packed with fabulous photos! The ones you snapped of the museum display are breathtaking.

I almost wish I had a staircase, so I could add photos to the steps - clever idea.

What a fun time you had with your family and the grandkids. I love the second bird photo. Our snow melted to grass the past week but it's snowing this morning and will change to ice pellets and freezing rain tonight. Not nice weather!! Have a great week!

What a fabulous weekend that must have been...chock full of sweetness and beauty and fun and adorableness (is that a word?)!! I think your grandson must be a bright boy to make the observation about the "lower case" letters. That made me smile! So did the photo of Mr. C holding that darling girl!

No snow yet!! Good for you!!

A fun excursion with your family with lots to see and admirable 'hands on' activities. A couple of ski resorts north of us had started making snow but with temps in the low 50s it's rather pointless and they gave up. I even gave our dog groomer a pair of merino wool socks for the ice fishing she likes to do but don't think that's going to happen either.
I like the adorable photo of your hubby holding the granddaughter too.

I'm happy for you regarding the mild winter so far, Judy. Your grands are so cute and I know you and Mr C enjoyed being with them. The decorations are chock full in the shop --a lot of eye catching sights to take in. My favorite is the photo of the little in the sink having her hair blown! Adorable!!! Merry Christmas to you dear Judy! xo ♥

What a fun trip. I would enjoy seeing all those Christmas decorations. I was just talking about ski resorts making their own snow the other day with someone at work.

I love the collection of mice on the hammers. Your grandchild is so cute, and I love her little socks over the leggings. Weather is strange. The last few years it seems there was so much snow where are you. Here it is so cold at night that my spouse wrapped our garden last night and put Christmas tree lights underneath to keep them warm. My tomatoes are big, but not ready. I'm picking the citrus that is ready, but I hope the cold doesn't get the oranges, because they are not ready.
