Hodgepodging Impatience and a Quiz

I regret to say that I didn't have time to upload the phone photos I took of St. Paul, so I decided to just go with a theme this time, and you'll have to figure out the theme. It is a good four-letter word. Can you guess which word all of my photos have in common today? And yes, you've seen some of these photos before.

1. What do/did you call your grandparents? If it's something unusual tell us the story behind the name. If you're a grandparent what do your grands call you? Who chose your moniker?

I called them Grandma and Grandpa Nelson and Grandma and Grandpa Hazelhuhn. Grandma Nelson called me Obnoxious. I learned that word when we were on a road trip to Florida with them and I had just learned to chew/snap my gum. I thought it was an amazing skill. Apparently she wasn't impressed. Other than that, Grandma Nelson had a great sense of humor. My grands call me Grandma. I am happy with that. There are lots worse things to be called.

2. Ever taken a road trip along the California Coast? If so what was the highlight of your trek? If not, any desire to do so? If you were to take a trip along the California Coast what's one attraction you'd have on your must-see list?

I've been on a short road trip along the California coast. The highlight was seeing the ocean. I would love to take a long road trip along the California coast in a convertible on a very warm day - as long as they're not in the midst of mud slides or earthquakes. Beach and ocean are what I'd like to see.

3. What are three things you don't know how to do?

I don't know how to knit and watch TV at the same time.
I don't know how to play violin.
I don't know how to rollerskate in a buffalo herd.

4. Tom Peters is quoted as saying, 'Celebrate what you want to see more of.' If that's true what will you celebrate and more importantly, how will you celebrate?

No matter how much I celebrate summer, I don't seem to get more of it. I celebrate gorgeous sunrises but they don't seem to last any longer because of it. However, I think that if we praise people (including our husbands) for doing something kind and good, we will get more of that behavior. So it depends upon what Tom (Who is Tom Peters? Am I supposed to know him?) means.

5. Thursday (February 16) is National Almond Day. Do you like almonds? Which would you prefer-an Almond Joy or a macaron? What's something you make that calls for almonds?

I love almonds. I would prefer a Mounds bar with almonds. I don't know why Mars hasn't come up with that. Almond Joy would be okay if it were covered in dark chocolate rather than way-too-sweet milk chocolate. I use almonds in many things, from sprinkling them on top of a chicken stirfry to stirring them into the batter for cranberry/almond scones.

6. What does Saturday morning look like at your house?

Saturday morning looks like every other morning of the week except maybe a little later. That doesn't mean that I sleep later, mind you, but that I might have stayed in bed reading later.

7. Share with us a favorite book you've read this winter.

I've already shared with you that I've read the book, 'The Day The Revolution Began' by N.T. Wright. This is not a fast and easy read, but so worth every minute. It's like read, think; read, think; read, think; Then there was Shakespeare's King Lear, which I read on my Kindle. Other than that, my next favorite book that I read this winter was  A Tale of Two Beasts by Fiona Roberton. What a cute kids' picture book! It's a very fun read aloud. And there are some other things I have on my Kindle that I read or read parts of, but I don't recall them offhand and my Kindle is in my purse because I took it to the Social Security office in case I had to wait in line for hours. I like to download articles before I go somewhere too, and read them while waiting. One such article was by Michael Horton. As far as I know, he has no connection to Horton Hears a Who or Horton Hatches The Egg. And I bet he doesn't know Tom Peters either. I might be wrong on that.

8.  Insert your own random thought here.

Last week I got an email from the Social Security office. There was some question about my online application. What?? What question could there possibly be? I had carefully filled out every single blank on that application. Anyway, I phoned them and was told that the current wait time was 15 minutes. I put my phone on speaker so I could listen to a horrid few measures of 'music' and then repeated apologies for it taking so long (on a loop, of course) - and proceeded to occupy my '15 minutes' with checking blogs, reading online articles, petting Tuppence, trying to lick one last drop of coffee out of my mug, etc. After waiting FORTY FIVE minutes, a live voice finally came on the phone. 'Hello?' I IMMEDIATELY said, 'Hello' in response, and then heard a click. I was cut off. I cannot tell you how annoying that was. Then I phoned the office in Chicago, twice, and each time was told that 'the number you have called is not in service.' Then I called the Rice Lake office and was transferred to the number I had called in the first place - the one with the 15 minute wait time that actually turned into 45 minutes and being cut off.

So yesterday, I went to my local SS office and waited less than 10 minutes to talk to a real live person. Surprisingly, they still make those.

Have you guessed the four-letter word?  Okay, this was an easy one, wasn't it.   Next time I'll have to make it a little more difficult.

Have a wonderful Wednesday, everyone!

BATH---I GUESS BATH! LOL..Who said blond aren't smart? lol
Great answers and great pictures, too. Love that one of your little snugglebug all wrapped in an after BATH towel.
Hope you have an incredible day. xo Diana

I'm copying NanaDiana: bath. LOL! Now, I'll be hearing Roger Miller in my head all day long. LOL! Enjoyed reading your responses! Have a wonderful day. blessings and hugs ~ tanna

Thank goodness two people were here before me and gave me the answer- BATH! LOL The books I've been reading are a bit different since I've only had time to read books to Baby M. :) You can all the summer you want if you come down here. And the beach which is only 3.1 miles from my door. Summer gets old, too. Have a wonderful Wednesday!

Judy...I am so darn sick of machines taking the place of good old fashion customer service. Love your pics of your grands. Have a great week.

When I was a teenager I drove a few people crazy with my gum cracking. I always chew gum. Now it is too difficult to find gum without artificial sweeteners so I rarely chew it. I don't know who Tom Peters is either. Being on hold is so frustrating, even worse to get hung up on after waiting! Glad it was a quick visit to the SS office. Have a great week :)

I LOVE the basket of CAT and the tongue licker..my most favorite pics. all the photos are beautiful. I called my grandmothers Mommie and Gonnie. I am grandma Cassandra to my granddaughter. no reason that I know of.
I am with you on number 4 all the way. who IS Tom and I don't even understand what the quote means. I like your interpretation though. I love all nuts, pecans are my favorite and almonds my last on the list, and love the ones that are the worst for me Cashews...

I am Nana but I called both of my Grandmothers, Grandmother. I love your story about the gum. It reminded me of how proud i was when I learned to blow a bubble with bubble gum. Its the little things in life.:)

LOVED your answer to number 4! I am surprised how many put so much thought into what they would be called. It never occurred to me to be anything but grandma...lol. Maybe it was because I was only 42 when it happened for the first time, and I was too busy to think. lol How utterly annoying that phone call had to have been. I had that happen to me once (only I hadn't wait 45 min!) and it about undid me, lol. Glad you were able to drive over and handle things so quickly. Enjoy the rest of your week!

I can definitely sympathize with your phone experience! Recently, we switched banks and had to notify all direct depositors and drafters (10 in all). We spent an eternity on the phone listening to that awful "music". I mentioned to my husband that listening to that "music" would be a great torture tactic!
Have a great day,

It took awhile to figure it out, but the word must be "bath". That second picture, with the cat in the basket, threw me off ... but I'm guessing there must be a bath towel in the basket?

I have still not learned to blow a bubble with bubble gum and at this point I no longer care.

I have no idea who Tom Peters is either but I *think* I know what he is getting at. You're right, though, it doesn't work with things like summer or sunsets. Those are out of our hands.

Judy, I'm so glad you went to the SS office instead of using the phone! It's so annoying when we are looped and then hung up on to boot. Of course you would put the Roman Bath in your clues. Did someone throw something into the water? Tom Peters---I must check out his importance. Have a happy day. ♥

I so enjoyed your post, especially the pictures...as always. I agree about the California Coast answer...the ocean is what I'd want to see too. Hope you have a great day.

Getting cut off after being on hold for so long is so annoying. I hope the real live person was helpful.

Stopping by to say hello. I always love to see your photos and grands. You have a lovely family. Grandma and Grandpa was what we always used too. And boy do I understand being on hold - it is soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo maddening! I miss talking to people! Have a good day. Love, sandie

I literally hate, strong word I know, but no way to soften my feelings about being put on an indefinite hold. I strongly dislike even using the phone, except for FaceTimeing my grands, but that's beside the point. So, I can so empathize with you on that needless 45 minutes, but also rejoice with you that you got the issue resolved in much less time with a real person. Enjoyed your word picture game and think I think I got it right.

Love your answers and your sense of humor. I am feeling sick today and did not have the smarts or the strength to figure out "bath." My goal in life, okay, not really, is to be able to knit and watch a program or listen to a book at the same time. Currently I can only knit dishcloths and not mess up if there is anything else going on.
One of my grandmother's names was Thelma. I called her Grandmother Thelmother, which I thought had a nice ring to it.

Debby said...

Now you put that "can't rollerskate in a buffalo herd" song in my head. Roger Miller. I used to sing that song, to my kids and my daycare kids. They loved it. I've never known anyone who admittedly knows that song!!!

Anyway, I was just taking a road trip down the HodgePodge blog list and came across yours. Fun.

Ha ha! Yes, I think I guessed right...Bath! I will want to check out that N.T. Wright book for sure. Hope the rest of your week goes well!

Cute photos and fun questions! My little grandson is now calling me 'Mooma' instead of Grandma and he calls Grandpa, 'Papa'. Don't know if it will stick, but it sure is cute. My kids called my Dad, 'Papa', too. It's hard saying the GR sound! You have been doing some serious reading. Love the photo of all the tomatoes and your sweet little grands. xx K

Fun to read as you weave words together so cleverly. I have no idea who Tom Peters is either. So you called her Grandma and she called you Obnoxious...there's a children's story right there!

Jean | DelightfulRepast.com said...

Too funny, Judy! I don't know who that guy is either. And I feel exactly the same as you about the Mounds/Almond Joy issue! I would have been hopping mad to have been cut off after a 45-minute hold.

Grandpa and Grandma Peacock and Brewer . . .
I was named " granny up north" by two of my grands.
(They had a "granny, grandpa south" so guess that is why I received the NORTH.)
Being a great granny now I am called GG . . .

I liked the BATH word . . . that I could see in mist of thepics, BUT
I chose . . . LOVE.

Who is that Tom guy . . . anyway!?

Lynne said...

. . . that I could see in most of the pics . . . sorry . . .
