Just a quick note to let you know that we made it to Indiana, our first installment in a week-long college tour trip out east. It was a looooong drive, but the last-minute decision to take our son's Suburban was a burst of brilliance! So much better than the five of us in our little Saturn.
Soren was a great traveler. He was amazingly calm, patient, and easy going all day long! Anna was occupied with her computer and journal, I read my old Childcraft poems to Soren and sang silly songs. His mama had wisely included toys to be doled out as needed. Very smart idea. So much of the time he was content, but when he had endured more than any kid should have to, a new toy came out to entertain him.
When we finally arrived in Indiana, it was wonderful to see our daughter and Little Henry! Her husband was at the Notre Dame football game. It was also fun seeing the little boy cousins together (see above). :-) Hopefully Little Henry (no, that's not really his name. It's actually just 'Henry') will soon get rid of the uncomfortable rashiness on his skin.
Later, we arrived at our motel, sending the brave men ahead to check for you-know-whats, (just in case!) I've actually heard of Real People We Know getting bed bugs from a motel. And not only that, even though I was booking rooms at least two weeks in advance, they were all booked up in this town because of the Notre Dame football game and a weekend band festival. It seems even that early we had no choice. The only room left in town was the dreaded 'smoking room.' And from the smell of it, it must have been smoking non-stop for the past several years!
Kevin found a spray at Walgreens that's supposed to kill the smoke smell. We're sitting around, waiting for the smoke to dissipate so we can sleep in this room. I wonder if we'd actually be arrested for breaking the windows to let fresh air in! Probably would regret it later.
We praise God for the safe trip, for this sweet time together with our fellow travelers, and for the opportunity to see Little Henry and his mama once again!
Have a blessed Lord's Day.
What beautiful grandsons! I hope the smoke left for you. Definitely not one of the smells I can stand.
ReplyDeleteWhat an adorable picture of your grandsons, Judy! No wonder you're so proud :) Glad you made it safely...hope the smell is a little better now!
ReplyDeleteThank you all! The little grandsons are pretty precious, alright!
ReplyDeleteWe spent another day on the road, far from our smokey motel room. We're now ensconced in a motel in western Pennsylvania, one of my FAVORITE places, and all our reserved rooms from hereon are non-smoking, thank goodness!
Western Pennsylvania is gorgeous right now, their leaves are probably at the peak of color! I love, LOVE all the huge hills here!
Glad you had a nice trip. What a sweet picture of darling little ones!
ReplyDeleteSo glad your trip is going well my friend. Love the photo of your 'treasures'. They are so cute. Safe trip all the way there and back again. :)
ReplyDeleteThey are absolutely adorable! Praying you have a safe trip! :)
ReplyDeleteOh, they are SO sweet together!!! Never forget that if you want a hotel room in a college town on a football Saturday, you need to book a year in advance ... and no, I'm not kidding. That's the recommendation made here ....
ReplyDeleteVery sweet picture! Wonder what they will be up to in just a few short years??? Glad you were here in Indiana to see some of our record warm weather! Have fun with those cutie-patouties!
ReplyDeleteGlad you arrived there safely my friend. Your grandsons are so precious.
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful picture of two very handsome boys! Sounds like you had a great trip (minus the awful smoking room - yuck)!
ReplyDeleteOh, what darling boys!!! I love a good road trip with little ones...the fun of pulling those surprises out just when they need them the most :)
ReplyDeleteI LOVE my old childcraft books...and those poems, oh, I can hear you reading them now!
Eww, eww, and more ewww...nothing worse than having to sleep in a smoking room...bleh! I feel for ya! You probably felt like you had to cleanse everything at your next stop!! I'm not good with that, I'm afraid I really would have broken the window, lol!!
