'Almighty God, in whom we live and move and have our being, thou hast made us for thyself, so that our hearts are restless until they find rest in thee; grant us purity of heart and strength of purpose that no selfish passion may hinder us from knowing thy will, no weakness from doing it; but that in thy light we may see light, and in thy service find perfect freedom; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.'
- Saint Augustine, 354-430

What a beautiful prayer. There is a St. Augustine's Roman Catholic Church in my old neighbourhood in Moncton that is very beautiful. It was built in the 50's I think and the stone looks similar to the one in your photo. Have a blessed Sunday and week.
ReplyDeleteLove this one. And a pretty church with what I call yellow stone or brick which reminds me of the midwest for some reason.
ReplyDeleteThis is a wonderful prayer from Saint Augustine. What a pretty church this is. I'm very familiar with the Saints, Judy, with St. Jude being a most special one to me. :)
ReplyDeleteHave a peaceful weekend.

I haven't visited your blog in a long time, good to be back. What a lovely, inspirational prayer and I love old churches of all sizes. I don't know if my email address in enabled or not and I don't know how to find out...I hope so as I'd love to hear from you.
ReplyDeleteWow, the architect that designed this church had a vision for something wonderful - and the large windows are awesome.

Hymns . . .
Beautiful church, and beautiful, familiar prayer. I've always loved the "restless hearts" part -- so true! And not just a one-time finding rest as in accepting Jesus, but a constant returning as the world, the flesh, and the devil continually try to turn our hearts and make us restless and discontent. Only in turning our restless hearts back to Him again and again do we find peace.
ReplyDeleteI love the beautiful words of St. Augustine, and the church is a lovely one. Everything about it is so pretty. I do not know how I did not have my name on your list of followers, but I noticed it today and remedied the situation. You should now be up to 809. Before you know it you will be hitting 1000 :-)
ReplyDeleteThat's a nice looking church.

ReplyDeleteI always love seeing your photographs of Churches Judy and this one is beautiful.
ReplyDeleteI've loved everything I've read of St Augustine's writings, he was a great theologian and thinker and left us an inspiring legacy of his faith in God.
