Thank you, Joyce, for another fun Hodgepodge!
1. I feel most energized when I _______________________.

am outdoors and walking!!

OR, when I'm out taking more photos.
OR, when I've just had my morning coffee.
OR all of the above.

2. Where were you ten years ago?

July of 2008

I was here, enjoying the family for the weekend. Pictured above are son and grandson.

3. July 17th is World Emoji Day. Do you use emojis? Which one's your favorite? Your most used?

I do use emojis, hopefully not overuse them, but I'm not sure about that. My favorite emojis were the cute dog, cute cat, and cutest ever blackface sheep. Now my phone (or somebody) has changed the emojis so that it's not a cute dog, it's a stupid looking cat, and blackface sheep have been replaced by boring sheep. I'm so sad.

How hard would it be to bring back my favorite sheep to Emojiland???
Maybe I should start a petition.

4. What song would you put on a wedding DO NOT PLAY list?

I know that I'm really living dangerously to reveal this song as one I hope I never ever hear again, because probably many bloggers have had this song sung at their wedding. 'The Wedding Song' aka There is Love.  It has been SO overused, oversung, and overrated. And it's just plain dreary! I wouldn't like it any better sung by Patricia Forbes than by Peter Paul, and Mary. Well, maybe I would. Well, yes actually I guess I would. .. but...Did the Beatles sing it?? That might have helped it. Anyway, you get the drift. Please forgive me if it's your very favorite wedding song. I'm just trying to be honest here, Joyce, and you did ask. Wouldn't it be safer to just stick with reading Scripture?

Tommy & Smokey on the window seat
Do you think Smokey is comfortable??

5. What deserves less of your attention? More of your attention?

Hmmmmm. What deserves less of my attention? Probably cleaning the refrigerator - Oh wait. It couldn't get any less. And what deserves MORE of my attention? Same ole, same ole... downsizing. Sigh. But what I loved giving attention to last weekend was this:

Pigmania, Popcorn, and Progeny
If you've never played Pigmania (more recent version called Pig Out),
you must do as soon as possible!
Toss those pigs like dice.
Will it be a razorback, a hoofer, or a leaning jowler??
The suspense is killing me!
These two fun grands LOVE playing games.
And I love THEM!

6.  Insert your own random thought here.

We are waiting to hear news of the birth of our first great grandchild. I am hoping that she will be born on her grandfather's birthday (our son, the guy pictured above in Question 2), whose birthday is on the 19th.

This is one of my favorite photos of the soon-to-deliver mama.
She's a bit older now, but just as cute.

I hope the new mama reads fairy tales to her little one (well, maybe not right away, but...). Do you remember reading fairy tales or having them read to you and being scared, and enjoying being scared? Well I came across this quote the other day and love it (as I do most things from that brilliant, eccentric man):

"Fairy tales, then, are not responsible for producing in children fear, or any of the shapes of fear; fairy tales do not give the child the idea of the evil or the ugly; that is in the child already, because it is in the world already. Fairy tales do not give the child his first idea of bogey. What fairy tales give the child is his first clear idea of the possible defeat of bogey. The baby has known the dragon intimately ever since he had an imagination. What the fairy tale provides for him is a St. George to kill the dragon. Exactly what the fairy tale does is this: it accustoms him for a series of clear pictures to the idea that these limitless terrors had a limit, that these shapeless enemies have enemies in the knights of God, that there is something in the universe more mystical than darkness, and stronger than strong fear." - G.K. Chesterton (of course).

Thanks, Joyce, for another fun Hodgepodge!

1. What's something in your house you'd like to get rid of but can't?

More books.

'Here she comes with another armload of books!'

2. When is the last time you experienced a sense of nostalgia? Elaborate.

When I was trying to get rid of more books. I think especially the old (and I mean old) text books, any books about England (no, I couldn't part with even one), and books I especially loved reading. But I did manage to clear out 15 linear feet of books, so it should feel like progress - but doesn't really. My goal is 120 linear feet of books. I've still got boxes and shelves full of books upstairs that I need to go through. Some days all I can do is stand and stare at them. I know some of you can relate to this.

3. You're only allowed three apps on your smart phone or tablet...which three do you keep?

Daily Prayer from C of E, Amazon Music, and Snapseed.  Maybe. Definitely keeping the first two. It's unbelievable how many Google apps I never ever use are stored on my phone, from the factory. There's not a thing I can do to get rid of them, as far as I know.

4. July 11th is National Blueberry Muffin Day. Who knew? Do you like blueberry muffins? If you were going to have a muffin would blueberry be your choice? What's the last thing you baked?

I like blueberry muffins, but my first choice would be a crusty-on-the-outside, moist-on-the-inside lemon poppyseed. The last thing I baked was a batch of gluten free chocolate chip/walnut cookies, and they're in the freezer downstairs so that I don't eat the whole batch at once. Mr. C. does not have a sweet tooth. He's all about salt.

5. What's the biggest way you've changed since you were a child? In what way are you still the same?

Sometimes I don't think I've changed at all, except gotten bigger with gray hair and wrinkles. I've always liked to spend time outdoors, near water, but I no longer drink from mud puddles or lick salt blocks out in the pasture.

Yes, it was a REALLY bad hair day.
Warm and near or at 100% humidity
And I actually wore this out in public.
I should've kept my Roy Rogers hat.

6. Insert your own random thought here.

I had a lovely lunch with Martin Shaw out on our screen porch yesterday, thanks to Vee. Unfortunately, by the time he arrived, I'd already eaten all the salad and all that was left was a little bowl of pistachio shells. But it was an interesting hour. Vee knows I like the George Gently mysteries and Martin Shaw was featured in 'Who Do You Think You Are?' which I watched on YouTube. Thank you Vee!

 Tommy wasn't impressed.
