I recently read a great article at Christianity Today online. Mark Galli posted it on June 10. Because the article is copyrighted, I can't post it here. But I can give you a link to it. So, I encourage you to click on the link to the article, The Lord Who Acts Like It and read it in its entirety. It begins, Where did we get the idea that the church should be a place that makes people feel comfortable?
I'm interested in hearing your thoughts on it.
Thanks for sharing this article. Very interesting. I agree, who said that church should be comfortable? I do not think you should go to church so you can sit in a comfortable pew, surrounded by comfortable people, and listen to a comfortable sermon. I think you should be shook up a little, made to get out of your comfort zone. Be aware that life is not always comfortable, but God can, and will help you through this life, if you let Him. Bless you my friend, love you.
ReplyDeleteVery interesting article! There are a lot of things we need to re-assess in the modern day church! Makes me wonder how many tables would Jesus overturn in today's churches?
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing this!

Interesting article. For the purpose of church, I definitley think it should be very evident who and what its people worship. Symbols can vary to different degrees, but church worship isn't about beauty, comfort, or even entertainment. It is meant to bring about changes of heart. It is a good thing to do some shaking up and if symbols and art can help that along, well all the better then...
ReplyDeleteI do think Jesus would be turning over MANY tables in churches today and making quite a scene. We aren't called to be comfortable, we are called to serve a mighty God and speak the truth in Love. The gospel may be offensive to some, but God can over come that if the person is willing to listen.
ReplyDeleteMy preacher always says his job is to "comfort the afflicted and afflict the comfortable". I think that sums it up pretty well.
Blessings,
