How Can It Be?

The following song has been running through my head all week. It's not the tune that grabs me every time I think of it - it's the lyrics. It exactly describes how I daily stand in awe of the love of God, a love which sent His Only Son into a sinful world to rescue sinful and rebellious creatures - like me. And not only to rescue, but to give us an abundant life because we are now free of guilt and the righteousness of Christ is ours! Think of it: when we trust in Him, The Righteousness of Christ becomes Ours!! It's all His work and not our own. He gives us the faith to believe, He saves us, He keeps us. What an awesome God! I still don't get why He doesn't just crush us for being rebellious and ruining His perfect world, but then, I'm not God.

'And can it be, that I should gain an interest in the Savior's blood? Died he for me, who caused his pain? for me, who him to death pursued? Amazing love!  How can it be that thou, my God should die for me??  He left his father's throne above, so free, so infinite his grace! emptied himself of all but love, and bled for Adam's helpless race. 'Tis mercy all, immense and FREE, for O my God, it found out ME!

Amazing love! How can it be that thou, my God should die for me!

Long my imprisoned spirit lay, fast bound in sin and nature's night. Thine eye diffused a quickening ray. I woke, the dungeon flamed with light. My chains fell off, my heart was FREE! I rose, went forth, and followed thee. Amazing love! How can it be that thou, my God, should die for me!

No condemnation now I dread. Jesus, and all in him, is mine. Alive in Him, my living Head, and clothed in RIGHTEOUSNESS DIVINE!  Bold I approach the eternal throne and claim the crown, through Christ my own. Amazing love! How can it be that thou, my God, should die for me!

Romans 10:9-10:
For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— not by works, so that no one can boast.
