My vegetable garden - April 6, 2011
Today is the 7th of April and my garden looks the same as it did yesterday. It is hard to believe that in less than a month I will be planting potatoes, onions, peas, and parsnips...if this snow melts.
We have a gorgeous sunny day today and I'm hopeful for a great amount of melting. Lots of robins, but no sign of a daffodil.
Why is it that in the winter when I have lots of time to clean the house, I'm totally unmotivated to do so, but as soon as we have sunny and warmer weather, I get a cleaning bug. Hopefully I will get the house clean by the time the snow melts and the ground is ready for gardening.
I am so done with winter.
I'll have to say, though, as I stood on the deck this early morning and looked out across our little valley, listening to the many busy birds, what came to mind was,
Praise God from Whom all blessings flow
Praise Him all creatures here below
Praise Him above, ye heavenly host
Praise Father, Son, and Holy Ghost
Amen!

And amen! As much as I don't like cold weather (I know, I know, Arkansas isn't REALLY cold), I am so thankful to the God of the seasons. He knows just what we need for our little corner of the world. Don't we serve an incredible God? Thanks for the good reminder.
ReplyDeleteI see pockets of brownish-greenish around the snow in that photo -- there's hope!!! On my walk to work this morning, I saw little bitty crocuses -- white and yellow -- just starting to peek out. Oh, Spring is so much more precious to those of us who have to wait through a cold, snowy Winter for it!
ReplyDeleteWe planted our first of two beds two weekends ago and then our temps have gone back down some. I hope the plants come up! I was hoping to plant the second last weekend or this but we're going to wait until we see sprouts in the other or closer to Easter weekend. Hope all that snow melts for you soon!

ReplyDeleteIt is amazing that in a month we will be planting!! I just noticed this morning that my forsythia is starting to bloom! Yey! We have been coaxing and encouraging our daffodils. I can just see buds on them. They might bloom for Easter.

ReplyDeleteIt's hard to remember that you're still seeing the tail ends of winter, when everything here is bursting out with joy and colour. But yes, thank God for the seasons.

ReplyDeleteWe woke up to snow on our plum blossoms (and grass), the first time this late since 1972! It's been a crazy spring,eh? I'd sure like to have been in your kitchen watching you make all those different kinds of cheese and yogurt!

ReplyDeleteHi my friend...it was a glorious day yesterday and I have hope once again. Today Mike and I are going to walk around the yard...something we have not done for about 5 months. They say we are getting a day of 71 degrees soon...Yes!!! :D
