Now We Are One

Henry's mama made the cute cupcakes.
Grandpa and Grandma made the 9 hour trip to the party.
It was well worth it. :-)

The flame was put out before he could touch it.

We didn't want a repeat of what happened on his mama's first birthday! Although Henry was fascinated with the flame on the birthday candle, the ribbon on one of his gifts was the biggest hit of all.

The mama and the boy

This is a little late, for it was the end of August when that little guy turned one year old. But better late than never. We only wish they lived closer - much closer. I guess it's that little inconvenience called 'making a living' that keeps them in Indiana. With unemployment being what it is, we're so thankful that John has a teaching position. It would just be a little nicer if it were here, rather than there.

  1. Ugh~ I know exactly what you mean, Judy. Our youngest and wife (and 2 babies...2 y.o. and 7 months) moved off to California in July...for teaching...and that is a terribly long way from Ohio!

This little one of yours is darling! Guess you take what you can get, eh? Here's to lots of visits!

  2. Oh he's adorable! I'm sure the distance is hard but like you say we count our blessings in this economy. I'd love to be closer to my daughter who is out of college working but am so thankful she is employed in a job she enjoys. My youngest is also too far away but is finishing up uni this year. I imagine she'll stay in the area she's living in now so we just go to them as we are able.

  4. So good hearing from you! There are lots of things besides spices that I let go past their expiration date. I just don't know if I believe that baking soda goes bad. Your grandson is just adorable. I was just looking at a photo of my son's first birthday. It seems like yesterday.

  5. He is beautiful! I am so glad that you could be there for the party, even if it was a little bit of a drive. We live a 30 hour drive from my parents and a 29 hour drive from my husband's parents, so my little one doesn't get to see them very much.

  6. What a gorgeous little one! I can imagine it's hard to live far away from a sweet grand. It's hard for me to have the lovelies living away. If they have kids, they're coming home. Period. LOL

  7. Beautiful little guy! Saw your comment on Andrea's site about pork chops. Trust me, pounding them very thin and shallow frying (18 inch oil) in super hot oil will give you a result you cannot imagine. Give it a try when you have a chance.

  8. Okay, I think all the parents are with me in that the kids and grands need to be living closer! ;-)

Stephen, I would definitely never try frying them in 18 inches of oil. lol And I will try your method. :-)

  9. How did he grow up so fast??? He doesn't look like a baby anymore, but a little boy ... :)

  10. They grow up way too fast. Way.Too.Fast. He's turning into a handsome little man instead of a beautiful baby. It's so hard when you can't see them every day because they change so quickly. It's good that your family is so close that you all make the extra effort to stay connected despite the distance. Thank God for modern technology and the Internet. It made all of the difference for us before we moved so close to Acadia. Thank you for sharing precious Henry with us. He's adorable!

  11. Happy times, It's a shame it's nine hours. A friends party night in Manchester costs me £40 for a round trip in petrol & family is much more important than that.
