Wood Arrives
Our oldest son's birthday was this week, and the family came out to spend the weekend with us. We always love having them here, and this time we got to have the birthday cake and watch the winter wood arrive. It's a little hard to imagine, when we're having such hot and humid weather, that in no time at all we'll be talking about -20 degree F. mornings!
The three dogs began barking, and we all rushed outdoors to watch the big truck pull up the driveway, hauling three years' worth of wintertime heat for our house. We have logs from our woods too, but it never hurts to be a little ahead of the game.
Look at that monster truck and two huge trailers of logs
The grapple operator, arranging the wood in two large stacks
Watching from a safe distance
Must stay ON the blanket, ON the grassy knoll
Another 'mint julep'
Mint sugar water and sprig of mint
This is the kid who asked me, 'Gwamma, can I come wiff you?'
'Sure. Let's go get the cushions for the swing.'
Walking beside me, 'I just like to be wiff you, Gwamma. It's the favorite thing of my whole life. It makes me happy.'
And can't you just imagine how that made Gwamma feel! :-D

Two of the granddaughters were here too, but they managed to escape the camera! Anyway, we made plans for the months ahead, when each granddaughter will come out to spend a week with me and work on sewing, canning, and baking projects. I am looking forward to that!
The birthday cake,
Recipe coming tomorrow!

Oh, what fun to have the family there, and to have someone special just want to spend time with you ... :)
ReplyDeleteAwwww....He just melted my heart. =)
ReplyDeleteWow. That is a lot of wood. Sewing and cooking with grandma. I know you will enjoy that.
ReplyDeleteFun time at with the grandchildren and cherished memories for everyone. Sounds like you had a wonderful weekend.
ReplyDeleteI'm no gwamma, but I cam imagine that you were walking on cloud nine right about then! Family is so important.. glad you had the time with them!
ReplyDeleteAAahhh...how sweet! Kids are so endearing. You have a big summer planned! Enjoy your week!
ReplyDeleteHow fun to all get to spend that time together and watch the wood being delivered. We lost so many trees as a result of last summer's drought that we will have plenty of wood for winters to come. We need to find someone to cut them down first.
ReplyDeleteAhhh lovely, bet you had a great time, my grandchildren arrive from England tomorrow, I havent seen them for over 2 years, can't wait!
ReplyDeletei would have been right there watching. what fun. and a good idea to be prepared for winter snow. i would like watching the seat he is on moving the logs.
ReplyDeleteIt is interesting that your logging truck looks so different from the ones we have here.
ReplyDeleteThose of you who already commented may have noticed my typo 'to heat out house.' My husband brought it to my attention, asking me if it really took that much wood to heat an out house. LOL I have corrected it to now read 'to heat our house.' :-)
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful life you have...I'm glad for you.
ReplyDeleteWow! a lot of wood, and -20?
ReplyDeleteAren't grandchildren the absolute sweetest blessing?
That is a huge amount of wood but that is also a low temperature. I barely ever wear a coat here. That cake looks yummy. xoxo, olive
ReplyDeleteThat little grandboy must just soothe the weary soul.
ReplyDeleteSuch sweet photos!! So great to have all that wood! Happy new week to you! xo heather
ReplyDeleteLovely to have the winter wood arriving. In Sweden we always say that the wood heats you 3 times...1. you have to chop it in to pieces...2. you have to stack it nicely in the shed...3. to finally bring it inside to heat the house...Nice photos and it looks gorgeous with the sun. I bet it's hot though...Have a lovely day!
ReplyDeleteSo cute! I love it. Sounds like you will have a great time coming soon! :)
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday to your son! What a nice picture of his family! Is that wood that you will use to heat your house this winter? The cake looks good, I can't wait to see the recipe. You know I love a good recipe! Enjoy!
ReplyDeleteNo sweeter words ever warmed a grandma's heart!
ReplyDeleteHappy birthday to your son. His family is beautiful. And what were those logs for? sandie
ReplyDeleteHope your son enjoyed his birthday. Your grandson is so sweet.
ReplyDeleteThat is a mammoth truck & I'm pleased that Gwamma could enjoy some quality time.
ReplyDeleteThis was indeed a beautiful day to spend with your family. And the weather was just perfect for playing around in the yard. But I guess they preferred to watch the operator arranging the large stacks of wood. It's not everyday they see those things up close and in action. Have a good day!
