I wonder if that title triggered a little tune in your head, yet another 'ear worm' for you to enjoy this weekend.

This is a re-run of a post from May, 2010
When we visited Cambridge, England with our son and granddaughter, we were determined to go punting, so even the persistent rain couldn't deter us!
You can see by the punts at dock how many people weren't punting that day! Someone had sense enough to come in out of the rain, but ...
Yes, it was cold and rainy, but still so much fun to be on a punt with an expert punter! He just happened to be from Michigan. Michigan?? I knew something was up when he spoke and sounded just like us! He didn't even attempt to fake a British accent as he punted us along 'the backs,' past the buildings that make up Cambridge University.
The Bridge of Sighs, built as a replica of the Venetian Bridge of Sighs. Our punter said that the students crossing this bridge to take their final exams was reminiscent of the Venetian convicts whose sighs could be heard as they crossed the bridge and got their last view of the outside world before imprisonment.
The Anchor, a fun pub at the other end of our punt. The Anchor serves the best fish and chips ever!
King's College Chapel with accompanying swan. This is not cut and paste. That cute little swan posed in the grasses long enough for me to get his photo!
This is fuzzy, but the best I could get -in the driving rain- of the little choir boys who sang for the very moving Maundy Thursday service at King's when we were there. It was one of the best rainy days ever.
February 22, 2013: No rainy day here today, but still snowing, a darkish kind of day. I think I'll make a new batch of soap. What are your plans for today?

ReplyDeleteI attempted some sewing but I'm fed up of the effort now (no more effort than usual, just feeling lazy) so I'm going to write a blog post then go investigate the chocolate cupboard. Yes, we have a whole cupboard for it. Well half a cupboard, the medicines live on the top shelf, chocolate below. I'm not sure what that says about us.
I know the area well. I had my daughter at the hospital there and spent many pre-Miss Teenager days seeing the sights. Today, well housework after a very cold day at the beach in Norfolk, UK yesterday. Yes, I must be mad! Take care and thanks for sharing. Chel
ReplyDeletethat first shot made my heart go pitty pat with love. so beautiful. and from all the pics i thought Venice... did not know places like this were in UK also
ReplyDeleteVery nice.
ReplyDeleteA punter from Michigan - such a small world, finding a neighbor so far away! It's cold, snowy, and soon-to-be sleeting here (so they say); I'm home from work on a sick day per doctor's orders, but feeling well enough that I may bake because it's cold and snowy and baking is just the right thing to do on such a day ....
ReplyDeleteOh Judy - I so needed this post today amidst all the chaos - what beautiful photos as always ( those little choir boys could have been John a long time ago ) Your friday posts always leave me feeling calm and serene - I should look at them every morning actually lol.
ReplyDeleteHappy wknd!

Today I learned something new. Punt and punting - never knew anything about them before. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteYou were in Cambridge for a Maundy Thursday service? How wonderful!!! We have such a beautiful service at my church each year and it is not well attended, people are missing out on a beautiful evening. We also went to Cambridge many years ago and while we thought about punting, we were afraid we would be too cold! You are not wimps like those of us from California!
ReplyDeleteSuch beautiful pictures...makes me want to go!
ReplyDeleteI had never heard of punting, outside of football, before either. Looks fun-- even in the rain!
ReplyDeleteSo beautiful there, and looks like you had such fun!! Thanks for sharing! Have a wonderful weekend! xo Heather
ReplyDeleteLovely- even in the rain...thank you for sharing your views from England with us on Ladies Holiday- I always look forward to your links...have a great weekend :)
ReplyDeleteHi Judy! What a fun day that must have been! Interesting about the Bridge of Sighs. I've walked across the one in Venice, but I only sighed at the beautiful view! Love your posts about your trip to England!
ReplyDeleteThe shot of the boats, and the fish and chips at the end would be so worth any rain...
ReplyDeleteWhat fun.
Jen
Thanks for sharing these wonderful pictures and also your beautiful faith. I'm a new follower; I found you through the Ladies Holiday Photo Blog Hop.
ReplyDeleteLovely set of pictures even in the rain ... love the image framed with the umbrella. The whole idea does seem like Venice although the cambridge bridge of Sighs seems more ornate than the Venice version.
ReplyDeleteOnly been to Cambridge once for about 1 - 2 hours maximum (shame) on a second stop off point to North East London. Never had the opportunity to travel that direction in the car again during the last 10 years to repeat it.

ReplyDeleteI love the photos.
ReplyDeleteI love that you went in the rain.
We have done the same. Rain or Shine, if we want to see or try something and may not get the chance to do it again. We just have to go with it.
Have a great weekend.
Beautiful and informative. I love that you take me on a journey with you!!
ReplyDeleteI'm such an Anglophile - I just love these photos. Cambridge is so beautiful. Such history there! And yay! A punter from my home state!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for joining in this week!

ReplyDeleteWe didn't get to go punting, but we did walk along the river and were enchanted by the cows grazing here and there. Loved your photos as they brought back fun memories. No snow here, just cloudy and chilly.
ReplyDeleteSo pretty, yet looks so cold!
ReplyDeleteLooks like so much FUN! :)
ReplyDeleteHow fun! Reminds me of the gondola trip we took in Venice. Also wanted to mention that the highlighted soap sounds like it would be a delicious scent!
ReplyDeleteMichigan? Of all places.... What a small little world we live in huh? :)
ReplyDeleteLovely photos as always! Makes this anglophile heart sigh.
ReplyDeleteCatching up on your posts as Friday I was visiting the sister. In Watertown it was a lovely day, sunny skies and all....
We've been punting in Cambridge. Our punter? let us try steering ourselves. Not as easy as they make it look : )
ReplyDeleteGorgeous photos! Thank you for sharing your vacation :) Found you on A Favorite Thing and I would love to have you share this on The Creative HomeAcre Hop today!

What lovely photographs, Judy! I've been punting in Oxford several times, but never in Cambridge. It looks and sounds like you had a wonderful time there. The Maundy Thursday music must have been beautiful.
