Vintage Mojonnier Milk Sample Bottles
What am I using them for??
What am I using them for??
For storing my ground and pulverized botanicals for my soaps!
With a good scrubbing and sterilization, they're just perfect for storage.
These bottles lived in the basement for years before I thought of a good use for them. By the way, for those of you who haven't seen my basement, just suffice it to say that they were in lots of good company. Anyway, some years ago Kevin found these in an old abandoned building that was being demolished. He brings me junk on a regular basis - some of which I'm happy to see, and some of which I don't let past the kitchen door.
'Thanks, Honey, but NO. Please don't bring that any further. No, I mean it. I can smell the mold from here. No, really. I'm sure it's nice, but NO, please...sigh.'
Lest you think that I'm an ungrateful wretch, no, I'm not really. I even let him keep the porcelain men's (please don't ask) antique hospital bedpan in some color that was reminiscent of pale mustard. I'm hoping the color was under the glaze, not on top. But that one isn't stored in the house. It's outdoors somewhere, enjoying the fresh air. thank goodness.
Mojonnier milk sample bottles
The bottles have a little shield symbol with the name 'Mojonnier' on a 'ribbon,' running diagonally across the shield - and a patent number on the bottom front.
For some fun photos of milk sampling from a bygone era:
Hey, I have one of those!
I wonder what all that green and pink stuff is.
Check out this USDA article where I found the old photos.

I think those bottles are fabulous Judy - how come we don't get to see a photo of the bedpan LOL!!!
ReplyDeleteLove the milk container in your garden though - how perfect!
Hugs,
Suzan
This post is great. I'm a lover of old bottles and such. You've made good use out of these. Your picture where really good too.
ReplyDeleteThe bottles are beautiful - kind of like Mason jars that everyone seems to just adore because they are such a comforting reminder of the past.
ReplyDeleteI loved this story and the cute little "funnies" tucked in between the lines! Poor husbands, huh? They try so hard, but sometimes they just don't get it!
i love old bottles and have never seen these before, i googled them and there are some out there on several sites... your blog came up in the google search...
ReplyDeleteVery neat! Always wanted a milk can!
ReplyDeleteAwesome.
ReplyDeleteWhat fantastically neat bottles. My uncle worked for a cheese factory and they used those all the time.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the good memory.
Have a wonderful Easter.
Your bottles are so interesting to look at as well as the back story.
ReplyDeleteGreat use for those old milk bottles. Love the old, when it can be re-used for something. Count you blessings, hubby could bring you flowers, you can't re-purpose flowers!!!
ReplyDeleteThey are adorable...well if a glass bottle can be adorable, lol.
ReplyDeleteGreat for storage just like you said.
Jen
How neat! I have never seen sample bottles before, but then maybe I have and just didn't know what I was looking at! Lol!
ReplyDeleteThey are perfect for your botanicals. I can also picture buttons or beads in them.
Just for the record, I should probably let you know that my husband and I continually kid each other about stuff like this, so I'm truly not dissing (?) him, even if it sounded that way. He's definitely a keeper. 40+ years of mostly-happy marriage says something about that. :-)
ReplyDeleteI love that milk churn and the Echinacea flowers...one of my favourite flowers! You are very lucky to have one. Chel x
ReplyDeleteI really enjoyed this post. Very interesting and love the pictures you have shared.
ReplyDeleteEaster blessings to you and yours.
I've never seen sample bottles before. If they had been left in the sun, they might have changed color and looked antique.
ReplyDeleteThose bottles sure are neat...I've never seen anything like it. And no...I want ask about the bedpan! heehee! Enjoy your week! Happy Spring!
ReplyDeleteI love old bottles. I have a fun collection too.

ReplyDeleteThose are very cool old bottles. It's great that you are putting them to good use. Your milk can with the cone flowers looks great! I know you are ready for snow to be gone and to see pink and green again. We have no snow, but it is still colder than normal for late March in north Alabama.
ReplyDeletei just love those old bottles! I think you have thought of a perfect use for them.
ReplyDeleteHmmmm. BlogLovin would not take me to your comment page. I had to use Google Reader to get here! What's up with that, I wonder?
ReplyDeleteI love when old found objects can be re-purposed!! Those bottles were a great find....the yellow bedpan, maybe not so much!! LOL
This is special. My grandpa was a dairy farmer and his original milk house was just torn down last year to make way for the new equipment shed. They only had two stalls :) My how things have changed. I know our readers would love this, too. We have a weekly link up party going on now (Thursdays), and we would love to see this post and/or any others you would like to share at allthingswithpurpose.com. Hope to see you soon!
ReplyDeleteThose bottle are beautiful! Love them!
ReplyDeleteI have never seen milk sample bottles before - they are delightful and appear to be very useful!
ReplyDeleteI am cracking up! Ok so down the line we probably would all love to see the bedpan. You can fancy it up with a plant or something, loL!
ReplyDeleteJudy, I've never seen milk sampling bottles before. How neat they are! My husband has brought a thing or two home that has been 'questionable.' I understand!

ReplyDeleteMy husband sometimes bring things home he finds on the side of the road. I've gotten a couple of really nice baskets that way. Amazing what some folks will throw away. It's great that those milk bottles are now being put to very good use again. Sending warm wishes for a wonderful weekend. Tammy
