Creeped Out!

I don't mind getting an electronic birthday wish from anyone who has a subscription to Jacquie Lawson cards. I don't even mind getting an electronic card from the dentist. But, please...

Yesterday was Kevin's birthday, and when he opened up his browser, there was Google with all those cupcakes and candles. Hmm. What a coincidence, he thought. Wonder what famous person shares a birthday with me. But when he moved his cursor over the cake/candles, there it was: 'Happy Birthday, Kevin!'  We were not just a little creeped out!

Maybe other people like to get birthday cards from Google, and maybe people like it that the Census took GPS coordinates of all our homes last time around. And maybe people are glad that Google has street views of their homes. Maybe others like it that Google is collecting all this information on us.

I don't.

I think it's getting just way too creepy that Big Brother, along with their friend Google, is watching everything, managing everything, protecting us, helping us, making our lives 'more convenient,' making us more dependent upon them, etc. etc. and, not least -  wanting us to believe that they're our best buds.

Besides, all this information Google collects...with whom are they sharing it?? And please don't try to convince me that they'd never think of sharing it.

So don't send me a birthday card, Google. I don't want to be your friend!

Am I the only person bothered by this stuff??

  3. what is driving me nuts lately is Google keeps asking me to invite folks to use Google as their email account. so like say some one sends me an email using a different system - Google says "invite that person to GOOGLE" ... sorry i think not. whatever. i use yahoo too. google is not my only source of emailing. so so silly. Google your pants are getting a bit big, don't ya think??!! ( :

sorry you guys got creeped out. that is wild!??! ) :

  4. I would be freaked out to. I have spent hours on my computer requesting sites to remove my name and information.

  5. That IS kind of creepy. I rarely check in on Google, so don't know if my birthday is remembered or not, but we are no longer private people. Someone out there knows everything about us, and there's not a lot we can do about it. Joe and I do pay for LifeLock, however. Not that it will stop information, but we feel a little more protected. What next?!!

  6. I'm not a fan of Big Brother either. And he's here at school---there are cameras everywhere.

  7. I have to admit, Judy, at first I thought it was a joke!! Oh my word, that truly is creepy!! I think even George Orwell would be creeped out by what Big Brother truly has become!

  8. You are right on!! Every site you go to is recorded by google or others like them, just waiting to release data to like companies. There are mall size buildings to house the equipment to store data. Yes, Big Brother does exist!!!

  9. Scary and will only get worse as time goes on. We have no privacy any more.

  10. Milton and Henrietta are so cute. this is a first for me, have not heard of anyone getting a card from google. i just searched for cards from google and there is an app for androids to create cards, so maybe that is what this is...from someone using google app not from google.
it is scary all this stuff out there, but it is there even if we don't use it, so i just enjoy the parts i like and ignore the rest. one thing for sure, these days a person can run but they can't hide. google has even created a new computer, google chrome computer with its on software, not using windows or apple...

  11. YIKES!! Yes it does bother me very much. Big Brother just isn't watching with the help of Google either. I've heard of people getting stuff that
they've posted on facebook removed because it violated Obama. REALLY??!! Makes me mad!!

  12. They did not do it on my birthday so maybe it is just special people like Kevin. By the way, Happy birthday to Kevin.

  14. There is a lot of creepiness about Google. It always takes me aback a little when I see an ad pop up for something I know I have previously googled!

  15. Careful, you have a blogger blog, they're out to get you *shifty eyes*

My friend Ben and I have discussed at length the overwhelming control of google and how much they're taking over the world (but on a microsoft product, not a google one just in case!)

  17. How did they know it was Kevin's birthday? Odd.

On the flip side, maybe they think that some people aren't wished a Happy Birthday, and that could be true. So I guess there are two ways of looking at it.

That being said, I don't like it that they know what I look at in terms of products, and they put ads in places that they think I will like. Not. I like to do my own shopping, thank you, and I rarely if ever click on a link. Particularly when I am trying to email. And sometimes I might get to those sites accidentally when I accidentally click on something and not mean to go there at all. Same thing for eBay. Half the time they have things they "think I will like" that are not things I like at all.

    XO,

    Sheila

  18. It is a bit creepy for sure!
I just wish younger people would finally GET it that they can't put a picture or one word out there on social media that they wouldn't want their parents, spouses, and bosses to see. And it's out there forever!
