My dad lives in Yorkshire, East Yorkshire to be precise because it's a big county for us! He used to live in a village called Pocklington. I love saying that village name! Pocklington, Pocklington, Pocklington :)

ReplyDeletePhoto 1 - I've been to Richmond a few times although it has usually been in the past to take my Mother out for a birthday touristic day out with a look around the shops and some food. Consequently I ashamed to say that I've never been inside the castle. However the last time I was there, which was far too long ago now, I did a walk with friends & blogged about it which I notice you've seen & commented on. photo 2 - I need to stop in Reeth sometime. It always seems to be a place to pass through last on a Wensleydale, Swaledale clockwise circuit tour. I did a walk with friends on the most recent occasion further up the dale and couldn't stop then either as I had friends in the car.

Penhill - Following you on blogger has increased my awareness of such a beautiful area at a time when my own personal journey changed to being able to spend a little more time here. Thankfully I have been able to document that over the last few years and share it with you also. Still haven't visited Bolton Castle although it's higher on the list than you think. The last time I past it on a heritage bus with friends going for a walk at Hawes. I saw a repeat programme last week on itv from Bolton Castle that made me think of you ...

The view west of Leyburn is classic that incorporates the sheep, drystone walls and that unique Yorkshire escarpment on the hillside. I can see why you use this one on your sidebar.
Lastly to whet your appetite, I was surprised & shocked to see that there were a couple of places circled on your map which is where I'm preparing my next post ... another two places I had never ever been to before. North Yorkshire is truly a journey of discovery.

ReplyDeleteI love A684, have driven on it many times. Right before you get to Leyburn you pass the Wensleydale Heifer Pub, which James Wight (aka James Herriot) spent a lot of time at. They have fantastic food.
