The beautiful Baltimore Oriole
Yesterday morning I was sitting at my desk when I was startled by this beautiful Oriole singing at me, about 5 feet from where I was sitting! He had landed on the wreath on our front door and was looking through the window. I think, through that sweet, babbling brook melody, he was saying, 'What's going on in there? Don't you realize I'm hungry??!'
Of course, I got up from my desk immediately and took oranges out to the picnic table (they're to the right of this photo.) I was trying to focus on that little guy, but he moves so fast! I had set an old drinking cup paddle (it's a dairy farm thing) on the picnic table and he perched on it for a couple seconds before flying off. At least I got the better photo of him in the maple tree. :-)
And yes, he started devouring the oranges right away. In fact, I think he's due for a refill.
I thank God for putting these lovely creatures in our world. What cheer and beauty they bring to our lives!

What a beauty! No Baltimore Orioles in my neck of the woods.

ReplyDeleteI love watching the birds that come and use the bird bath and eat the seed in the feeders, I do it every morning!! I haven't seen a Baltimore Oriole here so far.

Atticus helped me put out oranges and grape jelly.

We put grape jelly in a dish for the orioles and orange halves. We only have one pair but I love when I can catch sight of them. We also have a pair of eastern bluebirds this year. I love our bird watching here.xoxo,Susie

ReplyDeleteWow, this bird is amazing. Our birds are more subtle. There are a few very rare ones that glow in the brightest colours.

I love Orioles!! They were one of the first bird types I learned about.. largely equating them with the Baltimore Orioles whose stadium we passed by every Sunday when I was little. :)
ReplyDeleteWe have a little mama robin sitting on a carefully constructed nest just outside our living room window. I'm patiently waiting to see babies, but every time I walk by I think of that verse about how much God cares for the birds, and how much more He cares for us. Birds are always a reminder of that for me.
