Pals (usually)
Earning a blister,
while Grandpa, Glenn, and I were planting the vegetable garden.
(No, he didn't mow the alfalfa field, just the grass around the garden)
He was too big to use as a chimney sweep,
so we put him to work in the garden. ;-)
Glenn loved digging with the trowel and carrying dandelions to the huge pile of weeds.
(I hate cellphone pics!)
Her biggest task while here was riding herd on the little brothers at bedtime.
What a job! When you're done reading a chapter of 'The Last Battle' (Narnia)
and they're tucked in for the night, how do you keep them in bed???

Last Saturday we took a walk along Fifth Avenue with the grandkids and the grandpuppy. We started out with the little one in the stroller, but you know how that works. And as long as there's virtually no traffic on that road, it was good for him to be running along with us.
Fascinated by a struggling bumble bee
Grandma doesn't like to see animals suffering. Upon reflection, however, it might have been a good idea to wait until the boys were further down the road before I stepped on the bumble bee to put it out of its misery. I was very unpopular for a few minutes.
Another corn field
We get another set of grandkids this weekend, who will be spending next week with us! One will be attending VBS at our church, while his older sister helps me in the craft department. It should prove to be a fun week. I sure hope it doesn't rain, like it did most of the week their siblings were here.
The other grandchild (our daughter's family) is heading to Gettysburg with his parents today. We had hoped to go to Gettysburg with them this summer, but the contracting business is always intense in the summer when our son-in-law is on summer break from teaching. We're going to have to give up on the summer vacation idea with them and go for a 'spring break' vacation instead.
Anyway, I'm looking forward to getting photos from them (at Gettysburg*) and you know they'll be coming to a blog post soon!
* Or as Henry says, 'Gettyburg, to see Sipil War.' (he's two.) :-)

ReplyDeleteIt's good to grow up with a healthy attitude to work :) That's why I'm so lazy now...not enough chores as a child (ha!
ReplyDeleteNothing is better than spending time with Granddad!!
ReplyDeleteEverytime I hear a morning dove - I think of being at Grandma's in southern Indiana and sitting on the breeze way next to the hand pump well looking out at the chicken coop!!! I had the greatest grandmom!!
Great kids!! No Electronics either :-}}
Looks like you are having the BEST time together. I had to giggle at the stepping on the bee. ;-)

ReplyDeleteHave fun!
such beautiful family photos, I love the sweater on the little girl, such a great post, my favorite kind,
ReplyDeletethank you so much for your visit today,
The kids are incredibly cute! it is good to have big family, is not it? Even if it can be tiresome sometimes, it is worth it.
ReplyDeleteLove the photos! Can't wait to see the Gettysburg pictures. It is a beautiful place to visit. Lots of good memories for all of you!
ReplyDeleteGreat photos, they seem to enjoy it very much. It must feel nice to spend some time with them all :). Enjoy the rest of your week - just relaxing here after work and dinner.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful pictures that capture the simple joy of just being together!....
ReplyDeleteWow it looks exhausting and fun! And to do all that gardening while the kids are there. I guess they are a bit older, and as you show, are good child labor. My husband always says the sweet years are when a child is old enough to mow the lawn but not yet to drive a car!
ReplyDeleteJudy- Somehow you dropped off my blog roll. How the heck did that happen? Anyway, I am still following you and reentering you on my side bar. How very weird. Anyway- wonderful post. I love all your sweet pictures. xo Diana
ReplyDeleteFun post, Judy. I love how you tell a story.
