Always a Favorite Scene:

As you may know, we live in the rolling hills of NW Wisconsin. There's some pretty flat land north of us, but going south, there are beautiful hills and valleys. I love the gorgeous farmland and views we see along the Red Cedar River. The photos in this post are from the Colfax area.

Remind me to plant lilies.
Remind me to read up on lilies so I don't waste my money.

Although the Harvestore silo seems to be the focal point of this photo, I was trying to get a somewhat panoramic view of the farm with surrounding hills.
A nearby hayfield and lots of wooded land.
Wisconsin has trees. Lots of trees.

I would have loved to get a photo of cows standing in the river, but I'm pretty sure that's now a thing of the past - pre DNR and EPA.
No idea why this farm is called 'Peek-a-Boo Dairy'
I cannot imagine anyone coming up with that name.
I'm sure it wasn't the cows.

I was thrilled to get this photo of a pair of
Sandhill Cranes as they slowly meandered across a pasture.
Click HERE to hear the squeaky wood call of the Sandhill Crane.
I love the fun, distinctive sound they make!
There's lots more to see on a drive between our home and Colfax. Maybe I'll post those photos at another time.

Such beautiful scenery.
Beautiful shots - I just love the first one - barn-fence-lilies
When do you want your reminder to plant them?
When do you want your reminder to read up on them?
I'll mark it on my calender :)
XOXO
Country roads take me home..
I love old barns.
Woolie JOY
Stunning views! I like the pic of the cranes. I am going to listen to their call next.
If you want to know how not to do lilies you should look at my post today!!
All your photos were wonderful. I really like the old barn with the lilies. The cranes are nice, I had never seen one of those before, thank you. We have a Colfax, In. just south of here. I think it's just a bump in the road, not a farming community. Have a great weekend.xoxo, Susie
These photos always make me homesick!! And, it always reminds me that there still are quiet, peaceful areas in this country... you can easily forget that living in a big city!
You always have the most beautiful photos!! Love the one with the Cranes!! I can't wait for my lilies to start blooming!!
so you have sandhill cranes way up there to. i thought they were FL birds. I love the lilies around the bottom of the barn and love that dairy barn.
How are you, Judy? Thank you for stopping by the table. Hope this week's Weekend Door was a blessing to you. I could sure use that one myself. :)
Love your beautiful images, so peaceful.
Have a great weekend.

Great pictures-- so relaxing! Those orange type day lilies are easy to grow almost anywhere!
Beautiful! Lilies are my favorite flower. Very easy. The ones in your photo we call wild lilies. This makes me want to visit your beautiful state.
heading to Door County soon...hoping to see some barns on my way there!
I don't know that you need to read up much on lilies. As another reader mentioned, they tend to go wild. I don't know what there officially title is, but I call them day lilies. We seem to have them at every house and if you don't watch out, they over take! I will be pulling the ones up at my house, you are welcome to them! Perhaps I could mail them? Lol!
They really are a pretty flower and very hardy. We have never done a thing to ours other then cut down the dead stalks and try and keep them out of the lawn. They like lots of sun.
oh, the farms made me homesick! love the harvester shot. the lilies ringing the barn are AWESOME! loved your comment on 'reading up on them' first. i'd surely waste my money...
So beautiful and those barns have such sweet charm!! Thanks for sharing and have a lovely weekend!! xo Heather
How thrilling to get such a good photo of the cranes - and thanks for the audio link to their call!
You live in such a peaceful and beautiful place, where is the nearest large city to you? I don't even know what it would be like to live in the Country any more, it's been 20 years... I'm a city girl now... But I do miss the Country.

Beautiful photos, Judy. I do think that WI is such a beautiful state. We are blessed to live here- xo Diana

Oh, Judy! Such beautiful country! Thank you for sharing all the photos with us. I love, love, love the lilies beside the barn. Gorgeous. I bet there aren't any gators in your Red Cedar River!! :) We see cranes of all kinds down here in Florida. They do have a distinctive voice!
What a treat to see such rustic beauty in the barns...great views, and great shots.
Jen
Love these pics! Amazing what lilies did to that first barn!
In the second shot - I have never seen a barn like that - very interesting and I love the 'farm' shots. You have a wonderful life. sandie
Hi Judy,
I have lilies...you are welcome to some.
Like some of the other comments have said, they are easy to grow. Yes, lilies seem to enjoy sun. I do have some in my North garden and they do well.
Love your photos today!!
The first time I ever saw sandhill cranes was in your part of WI; then last year we heard them fly over our DD#1's house in IL,probably on the way to WI. Great photos that made me miss my home state.
Your photos are just wonderful.
I love the name of the dairy, I can just imagine the farmer asking his child to name it :-)
Hoping all is well and Misty is OK xx
You've captured the rural life beautifully! I noticed some sumac, an old stone ice house(I believe!)and more! Here in Ontario there are a few differences, but a similar mood!
Lovely pictures! It looks very "exotic" to me.
I especially love that barn surrounded by lilies! :)
It's just so beautiful and green. Love the barns.
Beautiful photography. I especially like that first barn. Hop you are having a good weekend.
Thanks for the photo jaunt through the countryside! The daylilies along that old barn are a great focal point. And I adore the sandhill crane photo! You did great to get that close to them.
I love these pictures! So beautiful! I hope you are well and enjoying your summer. Have a wonderful weekend!
