Love Your Selfie????

TODAY.com

The TODAY Show is running this odd thing called 'Love Your Selfie.' People are taking selfies and telling themselves how much they love [themselves].

Can you believe that Americans need MORE encouragement to love themselves???? They say that people spend an average of 55 minutes a day, primping. Yes, that poll must have been limited to America. I can't imagine that happening in the jungle of Bolivia or in the Ukraine.

As my husband says,  'We are so Rome.'

That would be ancient Rome, before the fall, you know.

Do they really think I want to know how Matt Lauer feels about his body imperfections.

Where on earth did they come up with this idea??

  3. There is way to much "look at me" attitude going on already. And I quit watching the Today show about 30 years ago. Pbbbtttt...

  4. I caught a glimpse of this myself this morning. I think they were removing their makeup (not sure why) as well before taking the selfies. I couldn't agree with you more... the world is so much about SELF...even have a magazine with the title. Lord, help us!

  5. I remember back in the mid-90s seeing a picture frame that included the phrase "It's all about me." I couldn't believe that! And it's gone downhill from there.

  6. My 32 & 29 yr. old daughters always take selfies. We live in a different world than just 20 years ago. First it was the radio that brought news into the home. Then the TV with a picture and the news and nightly entertainment. The home computer made it possible to keep up with the world and family and friends. Now the cell phone with all it's connections to friends, family and world. The scarie part is that the younger generation is loosing their privacy. they care less about "Big Brother" and loosing their identity. With the ability to promote self - you're out there for the hackers and Big Brother.
Sorry - my girls and I just had this conversation this past weekend -- how OVER EXPOSED we have become!!

  8. 55 minutes primping? Seriously? Who has the time...or, if they do, who spends that much time primping? They must have thrown all those Wives of Beverly Hills & Atlanta & NY , etc. into that mix. lol

We are SUCH a self-absorbed society and it is just one more step slid down the slope....xo Diana

  9. i don't give myself 2 min. of primping. that's just enough to wet my hair down, if that. :)

  10. I tried taking a selfie once and I looked awful. I'll just stick to looking at myself in the mirror where I look much better.

  11. As one who just spent an hour last night taking such a photo...sigh...I hang my head in shame. I'll be linking to this once I have it posted at week's end. I hate photos period and selfies more. We are sooooooo Rome.

  12. It's quite a craze, isn't it, and one wonders where it will go from here. Meanwhile, self absorption pervades our society.

  13. Funny, I was just mentioning our likeness to the downfall of the roman empire to my husband last night!
I am moving my blog to WP without a self photo right now-That's how much I like to take pictures of myself.
BTW, I linked back to your post about your G'Mother in my post today. I hope you don't mind!

  14. I will remember that expression: being so like Rome!
No selfie here: no cellphone, blackberry or any of those gadgets, not even a telly!
I cannot remember the last time we had a photo taken of ourselves either!
Oh dear, what does that make us? Pre Rome?
Hugs Judy, you brought a good point!

  15. It is alright to love yourself but you need to love your neighbor as yourself to make the world right.

  16. Wow, that last photo says a lot! We are getting to be a very 'self'ish world! It's sad.

  17. I am appalled by selfies of everyone else and I seldom do one of myself unless my daughter is included. My 22 yo kidoo does them all the time-the rise of mobile phones and Facebook which I also could go on about contributes to this self absorption.

  18. I've only taken one or two selfies for the blog. Yes, I agree, we are Rome before the fall, I'm afraid. The photo of the prez cheesing with the lovely PM of wherever (I forgot) was embarrassing. But the media thinks anything he does is A-okay. I can see by MO's face that she didn't think much of it!

  19. I keep seeing talk show hosts do their show w/o makeup. I rarely wear make up any more. I've never taken a selfie. I don't like to see myself in a photo. period!!!

  20. p.s. Yes, it was 75 degrees in Ga today. Cold weather is on its way back...but for today, I aired out the house!

  21. I should've taken a selfie Sunday morning when my husband took one look at me and said "You look like I feel. We must be on our way out [meaning, dying!]. You look like death warmed over." No, I wasn't insulted; we're both really sick right now! But even when I'm looking my best I just don't feel the need to take selfies!

  22. Did you know that the United States is number one in the world for just one area? We are number one in confidence. We ranked way below other nations in different abilities, but at least we love our selves. I do not do selfies. My first blog post had one, but they did not exist at that time so I guess it was just a poor self portrait by a camera. When in Rome ...

  23. We give way to much attention to our "outward" appearance and not enough to our "inward" appearance. The 'glow' comes from loving God first and our neighbor as our self. Nothing wrong with makeup etc and looking our best.

  24. Great post Judy!! Oh that last photo...Grrrrr!!!
