Will Chobani Greek Yogurt Make it to the Olympics?

Tuppence, taste testing Chobani Greek Yogurt

I don't know about you, but I'm a little tired of the U.S.reporting being so obviously deliberately negative on Russia, the Olympic village, and Putin specifically. Did it feel to anyone else like there was a stick being poked in Putin's eye? I mean, have you watched the TODAY Show at all?  It really seems like we're doing our best to belittle, besmirch, and generally annoy other nations. Who do we think we are??  Are the latest 'toothpaste tube' terror threats real, or a way to put fear into people's minds and diminish their confidence in Russian security?

Oh. So back to the yogurt. I don't know if this is just political on Russia's part to block the shipment of yogurt from Newark to Sochi, or if they're trying to follow the letter of the law in demanding accompanying paperwork (maybe because of our very public questioning of Russia's ability to keep the Olympics safe?)  but if so, I for one think we have it coming.

Still, I do feel sorry for the Olympians. They need their Chobani. I eat this stuff nearly every day. It's a great, high-protein lunch.

Plain Chobani Greek yogurt, flaxseed, Polaner fruit, and chopped almonds. Love it!

BTW, Tuppence only gets to lick out the container when I'm done. But she agrees that it's delicious!

Doesn't she look like a sweet cat? She doesn't seem that sweet when she's draped herself across my neck in the middle of the night. Trust me.

  2. There will never be any better marketing for Chobani in the US than this 'scandal'. In fact, better than if it had made it through customs smoothly. We don't have Chobani here, just regular Greek yoghurt by various brands, but rules are rules....it makes me wonder how long this has been going on for. If not long then they should have started working on getting customs clearance a long time ago rather than just assuming they'd be able to barrel their way through because the US is 'the most powerful nation' etc. You know it gets really old for us other countries to keep hearing American's self important statements about why they're the most important in the world. Anyway, sorry, this has turned into an anti-US rant...which is funny cos I love y'all over there! xx

  6. I haven't been keeping up as I quit reading the news years ago. I was advised to do that by my doctor who encourages all her patients to do this to cut the stress from their lives. She practices what she preaches, too. That and eating well are her two rallying points. I miss junk food more than the news! ;-)

I think that anyone in charge of the Olympics should have made every effort to make their foreign guests comfortable. Hence, give them their yogurt. That being said, I think that Americans as a whole can act like prima donnas at times. But when people need help? They can depend on America. Watching Christian TV, I notice who they are appealing to for putting in water wells and for providing food for the elderly. Still, it is embarrassing when Americans act entitled.

Love that kitty and his yogurt! I love yogurt, too.

  7. When I read this story on the news, my first thought was I'm sure Russian officials have so much more to worry about than yogurt in customs. Seems such a silly thing with terrorist threats looming. That being said - I do love my chiboni :-)

  8. We always have the large container here. I eat it about 5 days a week for breakfast with homemade granola and dried cranberries or cherries. Yum. And my sweet kitty, Peaches, waits for me to finish so she can lick the bowl.

  9. I love the kitty's name. I also love that brand of yogurt.

  11. We do a lot of things we shouldn't. Seems we either think Russia is to lax or now too strict. So..you are right on this one. I am not all that familiar with Chobani..but now I'm curious and since I am a yogurt lover..I must try this.
It's mostly the news media. Anyway, that's how I see it. Sometimes I have to wonder who is REALLY running our country. I say it's the media.
    Sorry..
    Sweet kitty. I miss mine.

  13. Well Canada ( the polite nation ) is doing the same thing - all kinds of reports on how uncivilized it is over there - it's not right - the Olympics are supposed to bring nations together not drive them further apart!
I've never tried that yogurt - not sure if we have it here?
    XOXO

  15. There does seem to be some very biased reporting being done by the US news media. Every day it is something else. A couple of days ago there was fussing about the Chobani yogurt. Tonight there was questioning of sanitary conditions because a newscaster got pink eye. Have the reporters ever had kids in school in the USA, or for that matter been to work in an office lately? Pink eye is a very common illness right here in the USA, too.

I don't believe the whining and bad mouthing are coming from our athletes as much as from the media. Our news media give people throughout the world a bad impression of all Americans.

Why is the US news media working to keep countries in opposition, instead of encouraging the coming together of nations in Olympic competition? They will say anything to fan the flames of controversy for a bigger headline.

  16. You have a gourmet kitty , I think. Cute photo!

  17. It is sad that politics are center stage at the Olympics, instead of the athletes. What a shame.

    I love Chobani yogurt, too!!
