Yorkshire Stone, Anglophile Friday

 In Richmond

I'm trying to determine what it is about all the stone in Yorkshire that appeals to me so. My daughter accuses me of having a low E.Q. (emotional quotient), so perhaps that's reflected in this attraction to the beautiful stone walls, stone roads, stone walls, stone everything that fills the otherwise bleak landscape of North Yorkshire.  I'm probably supposed to like the flowers better. However, flowers fade and die. Stone lives forever.

See those daffodils?  They're gone by now.
But you can count on that stone still being there.

  1. Great stone shots!! I'm chuckling because my husband loves stones too! When we travel and we see them, he points them out and we then say "there's hundreds of them!" Too funny, thanks for the memory!

    Have a happy day!

  6. Maybe it the durability of those stones. I adore stone fences . Saw some stone homes when we went thru the northeast on a trip once. It should last another hundred years or so. Just read this week that in Bloomington, Indiana they are closing their limestone quarry. So sad. Some of that stone is in the Empire State building. Have a great weekend, xoxo,Susie

  8. Oh- I LOVE stones and so does my youngest son. I am fascinated by them-by stone buildings and fencesa and roads. I have always had a huge rock standing upright with another smaller one in front of it in an upright position-every place we have ever lived I just did that for some reason without thinking about it. One of our neighbors (when we were new to the neighborhood) walked over one day when I was outside and asked me if I happened to be Irish. I was surprised but said yes-then asked what made him think/ask that.
He said- It's your stones- the Irish always have a love of stones and do something like this with them. lol Kind of like airing your underwear in public, I guess! xo Daina

  10. I love the stone that is used most places in England. And you're correct, it will never go away. It's permanent. I remember hearing the birds chirping through open windows while there and how it echoed off the stone houses and walls. And I love the stone fences and styles everywhere. Your photos are beautiful! I hope you have a nice weekend.

  11. When I see stonework like that, I can't help but think of the people who laid the stones, one by one!

  13. I love the look of stone, too, Judy. It draws me in, and I want to touch it; think about the hard work that went into building the walls; who lifted the stones; who chiseled them to fit so perfectly; who carried the stones...

    Beautiful photos!

  14. The daffs'll be coming back soon, Judy! Lovely pictures - and, given your enthusiasm, you must surely have Yorkshire roots! Hope you got my comments about SUTHEHRK!

  15. I love your pictures. I have a soft spot for stones... Maybe it's because I have a heart of stone, but I only visited stone cottages when I was looking for a home.

  16. It is charming and cottagey and speaks to the past. I love it, too!

And speaking of England, I just posted about your favorite program and mine! The initials are DA!

  17. Your daughter sounds like my husband - he finds the stone rather bleak. But I agree with you. What's not to love about the stone?
