I am sitting on the front porch as I write this, Saturday afternoon. The fall colors are just beautiful. From where I sit, I can see the woods to the east, southeast, and south, along with the golden soybean field. We have a pretty strong breeze right now, so the chimes are busy serenading the dog and me. Mr. Cranberry is at an auction, Jazzie and I are enjoying the gorgeous fall weather, with the exception of the occasional Asian beetle or whatever those ghastly little lady bugs are that swarm this time of year.
We had the outside of the house sprayed last week, so we no longer get armies of Asian beetles crawling across our ceilings or
The day the guy came around to spray our house, I asked him how long after spraying before it would be safe for the dogs to go out. He said 'Half an hour.' Then I asked him how long before it would be safe for me to go out. He said, 'Twenty minutes, unless you plan on licking the walls.' So, naturally, I waited an hour. Then I let Jazzie out. FIRST thing she did was lick the wall. No kidding. She walked out the door, turned, and licked the wall! I couldn't believe it. I made her go back indoors. What kind of a dog licks the wall??? Anyway, she's fine, and I gave her a dog cookie to get that taste out of her mouth.
'Maples and Cattails'
Those chimes are medium-low tones, and with the great breeze and the sound of the occasional car driving past, I could easily take a nap out here, but winter will give me enough time for naps. I'd hate to waste the gorgeous fall weather for a nap.
'Out of Commission'
I hope you all had a nice weekend. You better get to Wisconsin fast if you want to see this area at the peak of color. Should be sometime this week.

love every single photo today.. is the camera yours? and i like the bike hanging from the ceiling... dogs will lick anything, at least ours do... maybe the spray gets on the walls and they smell it? i would have waited at least an hour... i have a secret. I love to sweep. especially if there is a lot of something that i can see it get clean as i sweep, same with cutting grass...
ReplyDeleteThat's funny about the dog licking the wall- but of course!! Like a toddler that spots the only thing in a room that's breakable and heads right for it! We've had those asian beetles parading around in the middle of winter before! We just vacuumed them as they seemed to be accumulated at the windows. I looked back at pictures from last year and we seem to be on target with the leaf changing. We took a drive on Saturday and saw some spots there were already prime but mostly everything is green with some mottling of the fall colors. That's a neat old camera and bike!

ReplyDeletesome great treasures. cracked me up on the dog licking the wall. we have terminex spray our exterior, too, for scorpions, mostly. i keep the dogs inside until it has a chance to dry so they don't pick it up on their paws.

ReplyDeleteYou are surrounded by so much beauty! First, I love the Psalm you chose for the top of your blog. I guess if dogs will drink anti-freeze, they will lick bug spray. Glad you brought him in. The old camera with the leaves is splendid, they are both dying or dead. I would love the wooden flag. The trees and cattails both in the same picture make a great scene.

ReplyDeleteLove the fall colors and the antiquities that you shared with us in this post. Our new maple tree (small) has already turn orange. But the fall foliage season is still a couple of weeks away down here in east TN. We are certainly enjoying cooler temperatures these days!

ReplyDeleteMy memories of the Asian bugs is that they can really bite. I hope the sprays slows them down everywhere. I remember when the scientists first let them loose in this country and we were overwhelmed with them. They fount that they killed off the regular lady bug. We don't have many of them anymore.
