RR bridge and foot bridge
Can you see the steeple of the church at far left of the photo?
the bridges, tunnels, and trains.*
My dog Bridger (R.I.P.) was actually named after the bridge at Harper's Ferry. When Mr. C. complained that 'you can't name a dog after a bridge,' I suggested the name 'Trainer.' Nothing more was said.

And now for something completely different...
* There are actually many reasons I love Harper's Ferry, WV. Civil War history, natural beauty, good bookstore, gorgeous views from atop Maryland Heights, the rivers, along with the bridges, trains, and tunnels.

ReplyDeleteGreat photos. For some reason, trains fascinate me. As a child we would ride the train overnight from Chicago to NJ for Christmas --- sleeper cars. What fun to sleep to the sound and motion of the train.
ReplyDeletethe shot with the tunnel and trestle is very cool! trainer... ha!
ReplyDeleteWell, I like both names Bridger and Trainer. Makes me think of the YA novel SHILOH about a dog in Friendly, West Virginia, named for the nearby town of...you got it...Shiloh. My grandson would love these train views.
ReplyDeleteMost of the tracks have been pulled in my area, but trains used to come through town when I was younger. I miss them.
ReplyDeleteGreat photos!
this is a place I would LOVE to visit, I really love trains!!
ReplyDeletenow bbq and seafood an odd combination for a restaurant!!!
Wonderful pictures Judy. I love trains. My sister used to live in West Virginia and we have visited Harpers Ferry several times. Beautiful area.
ReplyDeleteMorning, beautiful scenery, love it.Francine.
ReplyDeleteHarper's Ferry sounds like a place I need to visit. Have been in Virginia and West Virginia, but don't remember seeing all these wonderful places.
ReplyDeleteJudy, I love bridges! (Sweet story of how your dog was named. Trainer!) Those photos remind me of my one time in West Virginia, where I was so amazed by the slender trees growing out of all that beautiful rock edging the road. In the rain, it was simply magical!
ReplyDeleteA great post! I have always enjoyed Harper's Ferry, though it's been a few years since I've been there.
ReplyDeletecareful lady, your photography skills are showing. these are AWESOME photos of a beautiful bridge and i love the tracks...one and four are my favorites today...
ReplyDeleteInteresting variety offence shots this week.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you on all counts, especially naming your dog, (smiling down from above I'm sure) so many beautiful and quaint, yet very famous things all in one lovely location. Great photos of each, which tell a good story in every single one, including Mr. Skeleton Man!
ReplyDeleteOh I agree...I wann a go there too. How very picturesque and your photos are fabulous! Hmmm...I'm not sure having a skeleton out front is very good advertisement for the restaurant though...it may not speak well of the cuisine...lol! I realize he must be a left over Halloween decoration. For anyone not from the south, seafood AND BBQ go together like bread and butter...and hushpuppies and coleslaw are a must!! :)
ReplyDeleteThis sure brought back memories, Judy. Harper's Ferry was our favorite get-away for a Saturday or Sunday, when we lived in Alexandria, VA. It only took a hour and a bit to get there, and we went frequently, especially in the Fall. We even took the train there a couple of times, from D.C., just to say we did. Love, love, love our times there. The little shops, the food, but mostly the scenery. I would love to go back someday.
ReplyDeleteWhat incredible photos. Love the tunnel shot.
ReplyDeleteThank you for stopping by and your sweet comment.
Wishing you a great weekend.
Hugs
Another place to visit!! Thanks Judy. One of my ancestors died in a battle near there in the Civil War.
ReplyDeletewow, this is an area that i love. big big time. we have been there probably 3 or more times. such a great area. lots of fun memories there. ( :
ReplyDeleteoh i forgot ... yes, that is a new shot. i think i took it Tuesday of this week. & for some reason the lighting was just right & i had to change all my pics over the whole internet. it is funny how that happens every once in while. i like some shot & that is the one i wish to use. i am kind of picky when it comes to pics of me. ( :
ReplyDeleteDear Judy,

You brought this area to life in your photos. There were wonderful and I thoroughly enjoyed every one.
ReplyDeleteWow! Judy, these are lovely pictures.
ReplyDeleteOh fantastic photos. I love both names too. Bridger being my favourite though. Hug B
ReplyDeleteGreat photos! I loved seeing the trains. Can you believe it? I'm going to be 57 on Saturday and I've never been on a train (except the ones at the amusement parks). That is actually one thing on my bucket list, to take a (short) trip on a train.
ReplyDeleteHave a great weekend, Judy!
Great shots. I love capturing trestles with my camera. Looks like a fun place to visit...
ReplyDeleteI love these photos. My husband and I both love trains and get excited when we see one...like little kids! Hugs!
ReplyDeleteHF is such a beautiful place. It has been a few years since I visited last....I need to revisit soon.
ReplyDeleteJudy, now that's some bridge! And I love the mountain as well. Simple beautiful! I am looking forward to driving through WV (though just a short time) on our way to NC. Thank you for sharing your pictures with us!

Beautiful photos, Judy. And I love that your dog was named after the bridge - Bridger is a precious name.
ReplyDeleteHugs to you!
Fences and railways and bridges and more! Wonderful scenic shots.
ReplyDeleteI so want to go there with the Great Scot someday. Years ago my father and I visited (he was both a history and a train buff) and my sweetheart would love it for the same reasons.
ReplyDeleteNot to mention the incredible beauty of the area... beautiful photos!
Beautiful pictures! I might have to check into taking the kids to see the trains. Thanks for stopping by my blog this week!
ReplyDeleteJulia @ Mini Van Dreams
Amazing photos! I love bridges.
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh, the second picture! The bare black mountains are overpowering here, they are amazing. And pair that with the bridge and trains, what a glorious post! One of strength and awe.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous photos! I need to visit Harper's Ferry someday. The diner is adorable!
ReplyDeleteLOVE the photo with the old bridge pilings! The photos of the bridge are wonderful also. It's so beautiful there. Nice post!
ReplyDeleteGreat pictures. I've been to Harper's Ferry, but your pictures make me want a return trip.
ReplyDeleteWonderland photos . . .
