Barns, Silo, and Corn Crib
NE of Barron
A blogger friend just notified me that my Word Verification is ON. I checked my settings and it is set to 'no.' I just redid the setting to make sure that word verification is not on, and yet when I come to this post, I see that it is still on. Something is overriding my settings. Is anyone else having trouble with this? We all hate word verification, so if someone can give me any pointers, it would be appreciated. I'm beginning to think we have Blogger gremlins out there. Weird stuff happening last week also.
Now, on to the post:
I hope everyone had a nice weekend. We sure did. Three grandkids accompanied us to a performance of Amahl and the Night Visitors by the Minnesota Ballet and the Minnesota Chorale at Orchestra Hall in Minneapolis. What fun! I'll have photos later in the week.
I did manage to get a few new barn pics this weekend, but the sun didn't cooperate. The temperature isn't bad for December (mid 30s F., warmer than the past couple weeks) but that means melting snow bringing on hazy skies. It's a damp cold, the kind that makes me realize that there's no way I would want to live near water or in England on a permanent basis. I don't mind the cold as much when there's bright sunshine - and we do usually get a lot of that in the winter. See? I'm already cultivating a better attitude toward winter. It's that reminder of the golden thread story (Synopsis here).
This fence belongs to 'neighbors' north of Barron. After years of use, it looks like it could use a little stabilizing, and I don't know if it could deter any determined livestock, but it does make a nice photo op for me.
That's not frosted shredded wheat. Those hay bales on the hilltop are getting the brunt of all the wind and snow that comes their way. It certainly looks like bleak midwinter, but winter doesn't technically arrive for another two weeks!
Is anyone in need of an old, horse-drawn digger? Mr. C. tells me that he thinks it's from the turn of the century or shortly thereafter (1900- 1920s?)
As I'm writing this, the wind chimes on the porch are nearly lulling me to sleep. The tones are deep and mellow. I hope our little Christmas tree on the porch is still standing when the wind dies down. It's tied to rafters as well as being anchored to the floor by a beastly heavy cast iron tree stand.
I can't believe that the first week of December is already over. I've got to dig out lights and decorations tomorrow and make this place look like Christmas.

I always thought that, if you put a head on equipment like that, it would resemble some vast prehistoric insect...
ReplyDeletei love my wind chimes. they are so pretty. i would love some of the big church sounding kind ... but i think the hubby thinks i am nuts. he does not like them like i do. we have been having lots of wind this weekend. very loud. all during our sleep time. ( :
ReplyDeleteI love the barn photo. I wonder if the roof will hold for another winter of snow. It looks as if it could cave in soon. Nice fence and I like the old machinery. Where did that first week of December go?! Have fun decorating.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful pictures! Love seeing the snow:) Have a blessed day dear friend, HUGS!
ReplyDeleteHi, Judy. I think everyone still leaves these fences for us bloggers to get pictures of them! This is beautiful in the snow. And the hay bales (frosted mini wheats) are wonderful. Have a great day.
ReplyDeleteWhen I was little my Dad still worked with a pair of plow horses. I can remember a digger similar to this one sitting in a shed after dad got a tractor. He was so proud of those horses.
ReplyDeleteGreat pictures here, Judy, and I hear you about the weather. It is really damp here by the water and because we are waterside we get more lake effect snow usually.
Have a great day- xo Diana
ps. Did you know you have word verification on? This is the 2nd one now and I still can't tell what the numbers are they are so blurred. Every blog I have visited this morning has had word verifier on- I wonder if someone "up top" changes some major settings?
Going to the ballet sounds so wonderful! It's been a long time since I got dressed up and with someplace like that. But I would love it! Your photos are amazing my friend! A winter wonderland! Holiday hugs, Diane
ReplyDeleteLovely fence! I enjoyed all your photos!
ReplyDeleteMorning, love the fence and the weathered barn, beautiful. Blessings Francine.
ReplyDeleteLove the pictures even if the skies are hazy! We've been having warmer temps this month than we had in Nov too-- crazy! Yes, I've noticed other blogs have word verification this morning that normally do not. What's going on?? BTW, laughed at your shredded wheat reference.
ReplyDeleteword ver. is on almost every blog i've visited today. grrr... blogger/google...
ReplyDeletelove the old fence row and the 'frosted mini wheats'. :)
I'm way behind visiting blogs...somehow loved your shot of the fence, but don't know why. Yes, blogger gremlins are at work. Sounds like you had a great weekend, notwithstanding the cold. We had our first flurry of snow today, but it didn't settle and now it's a lovely, bluesky day. As for frosted shredded wheat, I just KNEW that everything's so much bigger over there..! Just off to prove I'm not a robot...exterminate...
ReplyDeleteLove the photos, as always, and those hay bales actually made me shiver! But in a good way (can one shiver in a good way?... I guess I can, because I much prefer cool weather); they make a beautifully stark scene of clean white winter.

ReplyDeleteWaving roof I'd say. Tom The Backroads Traveller
ReplyDeleteI've experienced the blog gremlins, too. It's maddening!
ReplyDeleteSure glad that the snow is hanging around your area and NOT mine. I've never been a fan of the white stuff and dislike it even more as I age. ;o). Thankfully, a chinook wind blasted through here last week and melted all the white stuff in the valley. I'm a happy camper!
The barn has a face....it is a great barn....makes me want to get out and back road wander...seeing your snow reminds me this is what my back roads will be like soon. The fence has a lot of character and made a nice photo for you. Stay warm :)
ReplyDeleteI noticed this morning that a lot of us have word verification on..I hate it as well. Can't get rid of it..I'll bet Google or Blogger did it...
ReplyDeleteVery pretty!! And as to fixing anything on the computer...I am helpless. HOpe you find out what the bug is!! If it helps any, another blog I read is doing the same thing!!
ReplyDeleteYes, your pictures are bleak. But they also have a certain beauty, almost reminiscent of Norman Rockwell. Blogger is putting it's own comment moderation on everyone's blog, it is automatic. It is on mine now too. There have been just terrible SPAM comments getting through, and I hope this solves them. It really isn't too hard to read...not like the old ones that were so frustrating.
ReplyDeleteYep living near the Lake is as good as living in England! It is chilly, cold and gloomy gloomy gloomy. That is why I love wool! :) Nothing better to keep the damp cold away.
ReplyDeleteHope you get some sun this week, I don't think we have any hope....
Being a farm boy I really enjoy seeing all of these photos. A lot of my blogger friends also have verification on. Mine is too and I can't make it go away. I bet it will be corrected soon. The company has messed up again.
ReplyDeleteSuch lovely photos! Almost makes me like winter ;).
ReplyDeleteI'm on Wordpress, but now my pin it button isn't working. It's always something!
First of all, what is up with the word verification stuff? It's everywhere! I suppose we'll just have to prove we're not robots for a few days until somebody fixes whatever's broken. Good grief.
ReplyDeleteWhat fun to have some grands accompany you to the opera! Good times!
I love your "shredded wheat" shot! :)
I have read several blogs tonight saying the same thing about word verification. My problem that has been going on for quite a long time is that I type out my comment, hit publish and it doesn't publish.
ReplyDeleteI like your photos and the one of the hay bales does remind me of the cereal!
I'll be back in a day or two to order some soap. If I can just make up my mind which ones I want! They all sound wonderful.
Love you pictures. Sounds like a fun weekend to me. It's so warm here...no snow for us. It's been so strange.
ReplyDeletebeautiful photos and i just love windchimes! yes, the word verification has been on every blog i've visited yesterday and today...it's probably on mine too...hopefully they get it worked out!
ReplyDeleteIt looks soooo wintery there, no matter what the calender says. I really like that contraption. Wish I could have it. Thanks for linking up this week!
ReplyDeleteWonderful old digger there!
ReplyDeleteStopping in from the Collective Barn hop,,,love the white beauty you have taken some shots of. Wonder if it will hold up for another season of snow . Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteYes, I don't have word verification on either, yet sometimes I will see it on my blog and others. I can't figure it out either, Judy.
ReplyDeleteYour snow is glorious and I love looking at pictures of it. Have you heard of all the rain we are getting in California? It's suppose to really rain hard on Wednesday.
~Sheri
I enjoyed your post very much. You are no alone on blogging issues. Everyone has them. Trust blogger fixes it.
ReplyDeleteI have to tell you we do get a lot of rain and damp weather at this time of year, but for me driving close to the sea to go to work makes up for it! I've noticed word verification everywhere this week, so I guess there's a problem with Blogger. It seems to be mostly on blogs where you live the comments in a different window than the post, tough... I'm investigating!
ReplyDeleteThat does resemble frosted shredded wheat--too funny. That much snow is not funny, however. The barn appears to have the "bends."
ReplyDeleteI think blogger is over-riding everyone's blogs and putting Word Verification on whether we want it or not! Love your photos! Beautiful barn and fence especially but every shot is awesome! Love that you went to the ballet with the kids...that used to be a huge part of our lives.
ReplyDeleteAmazing all the snow you have . . . we have NONE and a green Christmas is predicted . . .
ReplyDelete(The Word Verification glitch is driving me bonkers! On some, not others. I can bypass it but WHY is it there!)
Hi Judy ~ About the word verification you didn't sign up for: it's something Blogger is doing automatically now, temporarily, I think, in order to cut down on spam. I was very annoyed at first, but then I actually read a reason that made me okay with it. Unfortunately, I promptly forgot what that was! :D
ReplyDeleteHI Judy don't worry about the word things as nearly everyone's blog today I visited had it on - A blogger/Google glitch. however you can by pass it and just click publish as before. Love the snow on the bales of wheat in the hill.
ReplyDeleteThe snow drifts are amazing. We get individual snowflakes and the kids hope they stick.
ReplyDeleteHello Judy, I think we all have the same problem with the word verification.. Your country scenes and snow look beautiful. Lovely images.. I also love the sounds of wind chimes, they are relaxing.. Enjoy your evening!
ReplyDeleteHi judy! I'm loving that farm, with all the essential buildings ... Silos are so neat, I don't see them very often these days. And the shredded wheat hay bales! My kids said that's what they looked like when we were traveling with them years ago. And one of them added that the bale would probably taste as good;))!
ReplyDeleteSome nice snowy scenes there. The barn shot was lovely and so was that fence. I do hope your winds weren't to bad. We had 2 full days of high winds here and boy were we glad when they died down.
ReplyDeleteI love wind chimes.
ReplyDeleteWe had (3) on our porch til one broke.
Hubby is going to try to repair it.
Many years ago my dad made me one.
But, after our big move I have not seen it.
Have a wonderful Christmas!
Stay warm!
