On a Wild Goose Hodgepodge

1.  Did you make someone laugh yesterday? Was it intentional?

I think I did, and sometimes it's intentional to break the ice or verbalize an irresistible pun I happen to think of. I'll sometimes find myself laughing at a line in a sermon or in a movie theater when no one else is laughing. Who knows why. Humor is in the eye of the beholder. I make Mr. C. laugh. He makes me laugh. So I guess that's a good thing. We're our own fan club. And that reminds me of this:

So much in love with us are we,
So much in love with us are we,
So much in love with us are we,
That you could kiss you
And I could kiss me.

 - Tommy Smothers
the great philosopher

Have you noticed that most comedians these days just aren't very funny?

2. What's a simple question with a complicated answer?

What's wrong with my computer?!

3. Rhododendrons or azaleas...you have to choose. Are either currently blooming in your yard?

I have neither. I like both. What I do have, instead:

Flowering crab, a few days ago

4. May 21st is National Waitstaff Day. Have you ever worked as a waiter/waitress? How would you rate the experience? What was the best/worst part of the job?

I never have. No amount of promised tips could induce me to take that job. The best part of the job would be working with people. The worst part of the job would be working with people. I admire anyone who has the patience to deal with unreasonable customers. I do believe that the customer is always right...except when they're wrong. And sometimes they're downright rude and obnoxious.

5. What fashion trend for women should be outlawed? How about one for men?

Not literally, of course, because we already have far too many laws, but I'd say that leggings (is that what they're called, where it looks like they are wearing tights and forgot to put pants or a skirt on over them?) for women over 40 should be 'outlawed.' Men shouldn't try to look sensitive by being feminized. It is most unappealing.

6. Name a writer who inspires you....now tell us why.

G.K. Chesterton, C.S. Lewis, N.T. Wright, because they make me think.

7. What well known quote or saying sums up your plans for today or this week?

'Been there, done that.' (De-cluttering). It's not at all fun, and I'm making very little progress. It would help if a few boxes of stuff removed would make any noticeable difference.

8.  Insert your own random thought here.

I'm looking forward to getting the garden planted. The past two nights I covered the beans, strawberries, and flowers with sheets to protect them from frost. I was advised that the strawberries don't need to be covered, but with all those tender little blossoms out there, I wasn't taking any chances. I'm glad I didn't. When I got up at 5:30 this morning, the temperature was 30 degrees. Once all threat of frost is over, the sheets can retreat to their  barrel and live in the garage until fall.

  1. Your computer seems to be working fine - nice post and like all the pictures. Dropping in via Joyce from http://waffle-with-wendy.blogspot.co.uk/ (Just in case you can't link back from the comment name.)

  2. I'm decluttering, too. I work a while, and then sit a while!

Love those crabapple blossoms. Such a pretty color.

I agree about the leggings; just too revealing!

  3. I laughed at your legging comment Judy. Just because they something in your size does not mean you should wear it! That applies to leggings on many people young and old!! And I am always making puns without meaning to do so..that makes my husband laugh.

  4. OOps...left out a word in my comment...just because they MAKE something in your size does not mean you should wear it. Too early in the morning for me to be typing!:)

  5. Hi Judy, Great pics and gorgeous blossoms. They look like azaleas.
I agree on the leggings and I seem to always be decluttering something and organizing drawers, closets etc.
    Have a great day!!

  6. Your answer to #2 made me laugh (which goes along with #1), because it is the perfect answer. At least, it is for me as I can totally relate. My son once asked me, "Mom, do you ever not have a problem when you're on the computer?"

I'd never choose to be a waitress either, but mostly because I am a clutz.

    Leggings. I am laughing again!!

  7. Funny, most of us posted that about the leggings, lol. I enjoyed your pictures, thanks for sharing. Have a beautiful Wed. Blessings

  8. Moving and de-cluttering go hand in hand, so I feel your pain. The flowering crab is lovely! I like your author list too : )

  9. sorry you're having computer issues. yuck! your crab blossoms are awesome! i used to wear leggings a lot. but i always made sure my shirt was long enough to cover my butt. :)

  10. LOVE all the pics today and those baby geese in the first one are adorable.

love the smothers brothers and that quote..

and the comedians today only curse and use foul language and are NOT funny

i wish you could ship me a few cold degrees and i could send you a few warm ones... we woke up to 76 at 5 am and going in the 90's and the humidity is like rain...we are melting and the AC is circling circling circling.

  11. I can imagine you making someone smile and those photos make my heart smile - I mean it - just lovely to look at. Love the computer question too!

  12. Well said for #5! I am keeping busy decluttering too. It seems overwhelming but I know I will feel better when it's done. I enjoyed your pictures, especially the geese :)

  13. Hi,
Oh, I just love your simple question! So true. When you have to ask your teenage son to come help and he says, "Oh, that is so easy to fix Mom"

Thank goodness it will warm up this week. I can not wait to start to plant. :-)

  14. Yes, I have noticed that today's comedians aren't funny. What's up with that?

Oh, decluttering..I need to do some of that.

Hope you'll get your garden planted soon. We've been enjoying "the fruits" of our labor for a couple of weeks, and it's delicious :)

  15. Love the little swimming geese!

    And, of course, the dandelions,

  16. Interesting observation regarding comedians today. There is a comedy station on my XM radio that I listen to in the car sometimes. The funniest ones are the old ones. My favorites are the Smothers Brothers and Bob Newhart. You're right, so many of the new ones just aren't funny or I may just be old myself.

  17. Great hodgepodge answers, Judy! I agree with so many of your views...I need to get at this decluttering again too---right after I bake a rhubarb crisp that is!
I wear those legging UNDER something...not AS something. lol They are perfect in the winter to keep you warm but on their own they look AWFUL on most people...and I ain't Twiggy (and neither are most of the people I know).
Have a great Wednesday- xo Diana

  18. I agree, most comedians today are not that funny. Great question, I've been having issues lately and it drives me crazy. Beautiful flowers. I keep procrastinating my de-cluttering!

  19. Leggings are ONLY attractive on women or girls who are slender and who also wear a loooong tunic or a skirt. They should never be worn on their own!

Very chilly here yesterday and today. I covered the geraniums on the front step last night as snow was predicted - no snow just cooler temps.

  20. I loved your simple question! I have asked it often. And nothing gets my anxiety going like something being wrong with the computer. The picture of your flowering crab is beautiful! And I laughed at your worst/best part of the waitressing job! Right on

    ReplyDelete
  21. I said leggings too! UNDER clothes, people. Not as pants!

  22. Fun answers in between the geese photos. Decluttering is thankless work at times, although the end result does free the mind a little.
I like your choices for authors.
I wear leggings - under short dresses or long tunics. I think they should be thought of as footless tights, an accessory or undergarment, NOT as the main event.

  23. What a sweet Canada Goose family! YES, I would also list the same people who inspire me! I think flowering Crabs are every bit as beautiful as the cherrys and others. Maybe even MORE! We used to love the old Smothers Brothers show. Nowadays, comedians are too profane and sexual. It is almost like everything else has been done, so they feel they need to push the envelope. But I do love Jeff Foxworthy!

  24. Your ?'s and your answers are so much fun to read. Agree with the legging one, lol... Love the pics.

  25. LOL, Well said on the leggings. I took the same--very similar--photo of goslings and their parents just yesterday. I've always thought it would be fun to be a waitress…but probably only for a day, or maybe half a day. In some ways it's similar to being a nurse--trying to take care of people and running on your feet constantly. :-)

  26. Those geese are a nasty bird. I have seen some little ponds turned to poop ponds. Yuck. Computer problems make me nuts. I just wish I knew more about them. Hope you are having good weather. It's so cold here. Blessings, xoxo,Susie

  27. Haha - love the complicated computer....I just don't get these things half the time! I am with you on the leggings. Sometimes you just can't help but look and who wants to look at somebody's bum staring you in the face as you are walking down a store aisle (or anywhere else). I love to laugh, but can't tell a joke if my life depended on it. I always mess it up, but that makes my husband laugh, so I guess it works! Hope you don't have to cover your strawberries again! :)

  28. Ooooh! I love crab apple blossoms. There used to be a big crab apple tree right outside my bedroom window when I was a little girl. Springtime when it was blooming was almost magical to me.

    ReplyDelete
  29. I enjoyed reading your hodgepodge...I so agree that in decluttering it would help to stay motivated if you could at least tell when you have gotten rid of a truckload of stuff! Not joking here, either!

    Crabapples are beautiful.

  30. The duck photos are beautiful. I also like Chesterton and C.S. Lewis. I don't find "comedy" funny anymore either, and I laugh all the time, because my daughter is hilarious. I am unfamiliar with Wright. xoxo Su

  31. Judy, I love your sense of humor. Glad Mr C does, too! I liked your comment about the best and worst part of the job.

  32. Love that first shot.

  33. Hi Judy :)

I love all the answers you gave. I also loved the pictures of your trip to England. Durham is so beautiful :)

    Have a great long weekend!

  36. My daughter is decluttering. She was going to have a yard sale, but is now leaning toward Goodwill. I need some tonic because I have zero energy for that chore. I share your opinion of leggings and anything that creates a muffin top.

  37. Your #2 is so true! Enjoyed your answers!!

  38. Judy, I really liked these pictures of the geese today. I was told that geese mate for life, so whenever I see them, it puts a smile on my face. Your crabapple blossoms are gorgeous. So, you are trying to de-clutter lately? I admire that because it's hard to do, but really makes a difference when the job is all done. When we moved to our new home, I gave away about 10 bags of stuff. Hang in there, Judy. It's a good thing what you're doing. And look how many people can have some of your old beloved stuff.

    Happy Memorial Day weekend, dear.

    love, ~Sheri

  39. I have a "Sheet Barrel" too . . . This last week it was emptied five days in a row . . . yikes . . .
I agree, comedians don't make me laugh much anymore, two that do, my daughter and husband!
