'O Lord, you have searched me and known me!
You know when I sit down and when I rise up;
you discern my thoughts from afar.
you discern my thoughts from afar.
You search out my path and my lying down
and are acquainted with all my ways.
and are acquainted with all my ways.
Even before a word is on my tongue,
behold, O Lord, you know it altogether.
behold, O Lord, you know it altogether.
You hem me in, behind and before,
and lay your hand upon me.
and lay your hand upon me.
Such knowledge is too wonderful for me;
it is high; I cannot attain it.'
it is high; I cannot attain it.'
Psalm 139: 1-6

Those sweet old small churches have gone the way of the family farm, I'm afraid. How beautiful they were in the country landscapes, though. It's good that it has been preserved. I always think of the smell of candle wax, furniture polish and creaky floors. My grandparents used to attend a small Baptist Church that looked very much like this one.
ReplyDeleteOh what a charming church and a lovely verse.
ReplyDeleteHave a wonderful weekend!
This is beautiful!
ReplyDeleteJudy, I am glad the church is still in good use. I just hate pretty building being wasted. So this is refreshing. Hope your Sunday is a sweet day. xoxo,Susie
ReplyDeleteLove the spire against the sky. It reminds me of several in the rural parts of our county.
ReplyDeleteSo nice to find a neighbor! Thanks for visiting my blog the other day. It's always nice to find a new blogger friend. I love Cumberland and have been there several times. Love this photo and the inspiration.
ReplyDeleteSuch fun looking around your blog too! When I have time I'm going to have to gobble up all of your anglophile Fridays as that's right up my alley!

ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful church. Wishing you a blessed Sunday.
ReplyDeleteI love little white churches like that. I can't tell if it's in a museum now or was it moved there? (and yes, great passage!)
ReplyDeleteThe Ebenezer Colonies consisted of settlements of Inspirationists in what is now the town of West Seneca near the city of Buffalo in western New York State. The Inspirationists migrated here from Germany in 1843. In 1855 they began to leave for Iowa, where they established the Amana Colonies. I wonder if this church traces it's history to these folks. ReplyDeleteVery iteresting information, Tom. This group was not connected to them. It's a Lutheran Church that undoubtedly got it's name from I Samuel 7:12.
DeleteWhat a darling and beautiful church! And the verses you shared from God's Word were a blessing and joy to read. Happy Monday, dear Judy! Hugs!

ReplyDeleteYes Beth, because the word means, 'Thus far the Lord has helped us,' it is still a good church name today. There's one in Minneapolis and one in Atlanta, just to name a couple.
DeleteSuch a beautiful little church! Love those clouds behind it.
