I don't understand why the dog likes to be out when it's MINUS 17 degrees F. as it was Saturday. I make sure to call her in after a few minutes, but she seems to think it's her responsibility to bark at the birds, squirrels, bunnies, and any passing vehicles before settling in for her morning nap on her bed in the library.
Then there are the ice fisherpeople.
They drill a hole in the ice and stand in the cold for hours.
Do they not know that fish is available at the grocery store?

I'm missing Bridger and Misty (above), both now gone. Really, we've been having three dog nights here lately, and we're down to ONE DOG. :-( Carla from The River Flowing blog had a great idea, but I'm afraid Mr. C. has steeled himself against any suggestion of a GSD puppy. Thanks anyway for trying, Carla. xo

P.S. The Good News Is: It's supposed to be in the 30s this week, so I think our cold spell is over. I'm looking forward to an upward trend in the temps.

What a lovely post, Judy! I know so well what you mean with a monochromatic colour scheme... and ice fishing is popular here as well, even though less than say 20-30 years ago. The swimming cars are an impressive sight! Oh, your dog looks really very happy and cute. <3

At least your dog will go out in the snow, when it's cold ours does his business right outside the kitchen door on the deck. I've seen photos in our local paper of ice huts sinking in the lake, people always push the weather, don't they?
ReplyDeleteI love the last photo of your old gal, just makes me want to kiss her on the nose right on my screen. Our dog who will be 13 this year is enjoying sunny days by the pool but he would never go in the water. I believe the break from winter is doing him as much good as it does us.
we are also down from 3 to one...and we sure miss Baby and cooper. he he he on fish at the store since that is what i have said to bob many times.. i saw the Lake Genva nuts on TV, but this photo is better than the one the news showed. it will never happen to me, i can tell you that. i can't beleive laying in the snow on purpose...
ReplyDeleteLots of vehicles land in the lakes here, too. I don't like being out on the ice this time of year, but numerous ice fishermen spend the day in their shelters.

ReplyDeleteI sometimes think the big furry dogs are more prone to being out in the cold than they are out in our humid heat here in Florida. I see folks walking or running with their dogs and the tongues are hanging out and most of them just look miserable. Not to mention the pavement is HOT here in the summer months (well, March-November). Love the photos! I don't mind looking at pictures of snow! :)

Hello! I'm excited for spring and blossoms and summer and the smell of freshly mowed grass! But we do have a while for all that, you're right. Your winter photos are pretty though, one has to appreciate winter when we live here! Your pup is so cute, and one of my dogs, Misty part black lab is just like that. She runs out and rolls in the snow, even when it's icy snow! I hope you have a great week ahead!

Your snowy photos sure are prettier than mine...if I would have taken any. We got another "snow" last night...one whole inch, followed by sleet (again) and it's freezing drizzling now. Not very photogenic :( I don't understand the ice fishing thing either but I do understand what it's like to miss a fur baby who is no longer here. In a few weeks, it will be a year when we lost our Hunter. And of course, Oscar is happier than a clam that he doesn't have to share our attention with him. Stay warm and have a good week, Judy :)
ReplyDeleteWe have been watching the temperatures at our second home in Chicagoland and believe me it is nice to be here in South Florida this time of year. Like your puppy, our daughter's Tibetan Mastiffs just love the NE Illinois snow.

ReplyDeleteOh my, that IS cold! We have some neighbors near our southern Utah home who come from Wisconsin every year to spend the winter months. Now I can see why!! While we don't have summer weather, it was 70 degrees today.

It sounds so cold there and I've been complaining about it being in the teens here, but without the minus! I agree with you on the ice fishing, a trip to the grocery store would be a whole lot less trouble! :) Don't know what to think of those that drive on the ice. Your doggie is a sweetie! ReplyDeleteWe were down to one very old dog. I saw new carpet on the horizon. I retired and in walked two pups. I love em but carpet does not appear to be in the near future anymore.
Your winter pics are nice but I am so ready for Spring...as I am EVERY year when the first snow falls.
Our old dog is like yours...I can't believe he wants to be outside. The Boxer Pit mix wants to be there too as long as he has company. The Boxer..hates the cold and won't walk on ice...he hates the rain too. Any other time he wants to be where the critters call!
Best to be warm indoors I think....

Judy...You got way more snow than we did. I need to stop complaining. Purdy photos as always. Those fellows are way too close to the water to suit me. I hope their feet are firmly planted on tera firma. The sweetest photo of all has to be the one of our baby in the show. That one pulls at the old heart strings. ReplyDeleteOh those cars in the river/lake! How scary. A young man drowned in Nova Scotia on the weekend when a group of 12 snowmobilers went onto a lake that wasn't frozen enough. Several broke through but were rescued. So tragic. It's nice to see all your wintry scenes past and present. We just got through that very cold snap yesterday and today it's warm as spring with a big rain storm coming tonight. Strange weather this winter. Take care. Pam

ReplyDeleteIt does look cold there, Judy! We've been having a warm spell on the front range and all our snow has melted. There were a couple days we did not even need to wear a coat! I know it won't last, but it has been a nice break.

ReplyDeleteYour dog really seems to have fun in the snow... My cats hate the cold. It's about 5°C (about 40°F), which for us here is unusually cold, and the cats decided to stay in!

LOL Only one dog on a 3-dog night! Somebody's feet are getting cold. Also laughed at ice-fishing--yes, it can be bought at the store. Feel bad for those who are used to parking on thick ice. That's a rude awakening. Store-bought would have been a whole lot cheaper than that!
