Hodgepodging in the Photo Archives and Good Fences

Do I look comfortable?

My sitting time is limited, so I'm not sure I will get through this blog post. Blogging will be sporadic for the foreseeable future.  Thank you for your nice comments on Monday's post. I so appreciate everyone's kind words, well wishes, and prayers.

1. If you could sit beside and/or jump in any lake in the whole wide world today, which lake would you choose and why?

If I could lie beside any lake in the world, it would be Lake Chetek, because it's the only one I might have a chance of reaching with my walker, given a few days and a good shove in the right direction.

2. What's your favorite 'fruity' drink?

The only fruity drink I drink is black raspberry ICE, not every day, and only half a bottle at a time because otherwise it gives me a headache. One half bottle gets me through two bowls of popcorn. It works out pretty well.

 Jake's sheep.

We'll pretend that I was trying to take a picture of that gate.
3. I read a list here of thirteen things to do right now to simplify your life. They were-

clean as you go, re-evaluate your relationships (cut toxic ties), unsubscribe (too many blogs and websites), de-clutter, write down your daily goals, reply to emails right away, forget multitasking, create a morning routine, re-evaluate your commitments (which hobbies and responsibilities are most important to you), say no, clean up your computer, and plan your day ahead

Clean as I go is one I kinda tend to do, and I like to reply to emails right away except don't always get around to it. I don't necessarily always plan the day ahead, but usually do, and I am a pretty good planner. I always plan tomorrow's dinner a day ahead so I know which meat to move from the freezer to the refrigerator and which additional ingredients I will need to have on hand, etc. I want to eat dinner at 5:30 PM, not be standing with the refrigerator door open, trying to figure out if there's anything in there that could be turned into a meal.  I need to de-clutter and bought a new book titled, 'The life-changing magic of tidying up.' I hope I implement the concepts in it in another couple months. I have great hopes to do so.

Which of the tasks listed do you currently find most helpful in keeping life simple? Which item on the list should you adopt in order to simplify your life this month? (see above)

4. What did you do the summer after you graduated from high school?

You're asking for my very long-term memory to kick in here. I'm not sure, but it might have been the summer that I worked for the turkey hatchery. That's a very long story, full of gobbledygook.

5. Are you a fan of podcasts? If so what's a favorite?

I like the Rick Steves podcasts and N.T. Wright. But you can also find both on YouTube, which is handy.

6. Do you think today's fathers have it harder, easier, or just different than fathers in the past?

Judging by our sons, fathers have it very different from fathers in the past. I think they're much more engaged in their children's lives and household chores than their grandfathers or maybe great grandfathers were.

I don't think my husband has it any easier or harder than my father did. They both had to deal with me. They are both good men. Neither is a quitter. Both feel a strong sense of responsibility. Both live their faith in Christ.  The Spirit of God is exhibited in the lives of both my husband and my dad.
(My dad is now with the Lord)

'But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law.' Galatians 5:22-23

7. Tell us one way you're like your father? Or not at all like your father if that's easier?

I am very much like my father: You can blame him for my sense of humor, love of theology, faith in God, and often being preoccupied. Sorry, what was the question again? I was thinking about something else.

Our youngest son and his little boy, Oliver

He is a REALLY good dad and we're so proud of him.
However, if I had been there, I would have insisted suggested that BOTH of them wear shirts out in the sunshine. A cool breeze or even a cloudy day can be very deceptive.

8.  Insert your own random thought here.

 Anyone else remember these?
Please tell me all about  in a comment!!
This is still on the outside of my old high school building

Although I love to read your comments, I will most likely not be able to get responses written. Still, should you choose to leave a comment, know that other bloggers and I will very much enjoy reading them. Thanks.

  5. Hello, I will keep you in my prayers for a quick recovery. I enjoyed your answers and photos. The shot of your son and grandson is cute! Take care, you will be visiting that lake soon I hope! Enjoy your day and the week ahead!

  6. It is funny that you had the fall out shelter sign on your blog as we just watched Thirteen Days recently...about the Cuban Missile Crisis. Our paster recently preached a sermon about the good old days but then he reminded us that the Good Old Days had their dangers as well. So true. Hoping every day brings a bit of relief and recovery for you Judy!!

  7. Good morning, Judy! How are you on this fine Wednesday? I must say that is was a delight to see your post and I thoroughly enjoyed your photos and the answers to your questions. The photo of your son and grandson put a smile on my face...they look like two peas in a pod :)

Have a beautiful, blessed, and restful day. Hugs!

  9. Hi Judy! Good to find you have survived the surgery and I'm sure you're glad of present day pain relief!
You seem to be in chipper form, a good sense of humour inherited from your dad! and blessed indeed to have a wonderful family.
I agree with Stephanie that your son and grandson are like peas in a pod!

Praying for your speedy FULL recovery!

  12. Hi Judy,
    As always, great photos.
Joe is a special young husband and father. We always enjoyed your visits with him.

Fall Out Shelter .... I have been trying to get my hands on one of those signs. When they closed the original Cameron Library, I asked for the one on the building. The new owner wanted it. I was even willing to pay. ;-)

  13. The father and son photo is so adorable! It's a good reminder to dads (and moms, too) that our young children are watching our every move and trying to be just like us...no pressure. ;)

  17. Well no fallout shelters, but my teacher daughter has to practice lockdown drills with her third graders. Nuclear fears have been replaced by this new ugly thing called random shooters. The times in which we live-ugh. I do hope you continue to feel better every day!

  18. Lovely photos, CM. Particularly the ones with the flowers. I rather like the idea of buying a book on de-cluttering and not being able to find it. Which, frankly, would be a likely outcome in my case - if I was daft enough to buy a book on de-cluttering in the first place. You make sure you do what the Quack tells you to do!

  19. Oh that bridal wreath is so pretty and so is the crab. Love the pic of your son with his son. Oh yes, do I ever remember the fallout shelters and the fear all the talk of them out into me mi was so worried that a bomb would hit and our family would all be in different places, I.e., work, home, school. My sister's home actually had a fallout shelter built in and my niece, believe it or not, recently ourchased one for her home. :-/
I hope you will be feeling better soon.

  20. Judy, I adore the photo of your son and grandson! Same stride, same stance--so cute. Hopefully there is sunscreen that was applied.
Yes, I remember fallout shelters when I was in elementary school. We had to walk a block down to the Methodist Church on the corner during those drills. They had a fallout shelter that we all crammed into. It's funny, we weren't frightened ---the joy of being a child...
Do take care of yourself, dear Judy. It's your turn to be waited on. Hopefully you are feeling better. ♥

  21. Praying for a quick complete healing. I remember the fallout shelters and being so scared--can't say I have seen one in many years.
    Take Care and God Bless.

  22. Maybe dads are different now because there is not a set of gender specific rules anymore. Or, at least not as well-defined as before. It seems now that the dads who are not engaged are judged instead of those who are. I don't know. My dad was fairly engaged. Hope your recovery is going well. You should come down here. It's so dang hot nobody could move if they wanted to. Ha!

    ReplyDelete
  23. I love your photos! Love the Fruits of the Spirit. I don't know what black raspberry ICE is. And I am so glad your hip is doing so well!

  24. Nice to see you back my sweet Judy and hope you're continuing to heal and feel better every day! ;)

Love seeing your photos and answers. Your Dad sounds like he was a great guy. I love that photo of the lilacs by the school - so pretty. My kiddos love those ICE drinks too.

Blessings and make sure you're taking good care of yourself! Get good rest when you need it!! xoxo

  25. I enjoyed reading your post. Hope you get better soon.

  26. I really enjoyed your writings. The questions were interesting and you did share good things. My mother took civil defense courses because the neighbor lady on the farm was teaching them. They were teaching at the time to put bales of hay over your basement windows and stay in the basement when a bomb hit. They really didn't have a clue that you can not protect yourself from radiation. Indiana Jones did craw inside a refrigerator to protect himself, but that was a pretend movie. Take care of your self first your photo of your son and grandson is precious.

  27. As always, I enjoyed your photographs and answers to The Hodgepodge. I went back and read your Monday's post. Oh, my goodness! I had no idea you've been having such a time. I wish you a smooth and speedy recovery, and will be sending up prayers on your behalf. Take care of yourself.

  28. I hope you are healing and in less pain every day. I do not remember fall out shelters. I'm not sure why...but I only remember tornado shelters. And I don't think I was ever in one of them. Take care of yourself! Is it time for Good fences? My week is getting away from me! Get better soon! Hugs, Diane

  34. PS...well, I don't do emails on my blog at all. I use my cellphone to leave comments AND reply to comments. Easier for me since the phone is attached to me. LOL

Don't worry 'bout replying to my comments...just know that I hope you are feeling better each day as the time passes. A loose connection was making the pain. Brilliant doctor to assume this and repair it.

Your husband and daughter? ------ they're keepers.

  35. oh i love that cow! he is beautiful...funny about the fall out shelter sign...i was just driving through downtown roanoke on monday and saw one on a building...i had never seen it before and was thinking i need to get a picture of it next time i am out walking down there! prayers for your continued healing!

  36. Love the barn photo. Haven't listened to any podcasts but I would probably enjoy Rick Steves! Different is the popular answer for father's today. Your son and grandson's photo is precious. Yes I remember signs like that!

  37. Judy, hope you recover completely and soon from your surgery, um, revision. Too bad Tuppence can't actually operate the computer rather than just lay on the keyboard. :-)

Such a precious photo of your son and grandson :) Oh, I do remember the fallout shelters and the drills in school. Don't like to think about that. We are all in God's hands. Take good care. x K

  44. Hi Judy, hope you're starting to recover and be in less pain.
We didn't have those signs or any emergency training in school except fire drills. I like the ideas for decluttering and although I consider myself an organized person it all seems to be going by the wayside as I get older. Don't know why that's happening but making lists to be sure I accomplish things definitely helps.
    Take care, Judith

  51. I don't think we had fallout shelters in Canada but I do remember air raid sirens that were tested regularly during the Cold War. Always a chilling sound to me. I tried to email you as requested in your previous post but it bounced back to me. I just wanted you to know that I'm thinking of you and praying for a complete recovery. Take care and take your time. Blessings to you. Pam

  52. Yes, I remember the fall-out shelters and no, I don't know where one would be in my town, but most likely there are some. Thankfully we've not had to seek one out...

As always, I enjoy reading your blog and your pictures are always good. My fav this time is the one of your son with his son. So sweet. Like father, like son.
