Weekend in Review

Littlest granddaughter, aka Elsa (when wearing the dress)

Mr. C.'s brothers were with us for a rare but enjoyable visit this weekend, but of course I didn't get any pics of the three of them. Men don't tend to stand close together when they visit, and they don't like being herded.

I did, however, manage to get a pic of my sister-in-law and my niece.

Chasing each other, when they weren't chasing the kittens

because that's where the kittens were

Finding out that this jigsaw puzzle wasn't as easy as it looked.

This puzzle was more his speed. Because he is now 6, and the box
said For Ages 6+, he was determined to put it together.
By the way, there are several of these nice Ravensburger puzzles
at Amazon.com from $7+ to $11+
Kids love them.

Son and daughter-in-law after I told them
that I wanted to get their picture and they were supposed
to pretend that they like each other.
(they do, btw.)

A couple movies we watched this weekend were White Christmas and The Bishop's Wife.

We can't have Lucy around without at least a few viewings of White Christmas with Bing Crosby, Danny Kaye, Rosemary Clooney, and Vera Ellen. What a fun movie! The best part of the entire movie (in my opinion) is 'Sisters' with Bing Crosby and Danny Kaye. Lucy likes the dance scenes with Danny Kaye and Vera Ellen.

The Bishop's Wife is an old movie with David Niven, Loretta Young, and Cary Grant. I'd never seen it before, but I remembered that Heide, from Apron History blog had recommended it. I rented it online from Amazon, and so loved this movie that I later purchased it for about $8, I think it was. My favorite line from the whole movie was when the angel Dudley (Cary Grant) said, 'If only people would behave like humans.' What a great line, considering the fact that humans were created to be God's image bearers in the world.

From  ― N.T. Wright, The Challenge of Jesus: Rediscovering Who Jesus Was and Is :

“Our task as image-bearing, God-loving, Christ-shaped, Spirit-filled Christians, following Christ and shaping our world, is to announce redemption to a world that has discovered its fallenness, to announce healing to a world that has discovered its brokenness, to proclaim love and trust to a world that knows only exploitation, fear and suspicion...The gospel of Jesus points us and indeed urges us to be at the leading edge of the whole culture, articulating in story and music and art and philosophy and education and poetry and politics and theology and even--heaven help us--Biblical studies, a worldview that will mount the historically-rooted Christian challenge to both modernity and postmodernity, leading the way...with joy and humor and gentleness and good judgment and true wisdom. I believe if we face the question, "if not now, then when?" if we are grasped by this vision we may also hear the question, "if not us, then who?" And if the gospel of Jesus is not the key to this task, then what is?”

Like Dudley said, 'if only people would behave like humans.'

Have a great Monday!

  1. Mornin' Judy - so nice to have a peak at your weekend and all the sweet grands. I see we have both decorated our dish cupboard with a wreath and light. I love the look of that. The kittens will be wondering where the kids are today. Wondering but relieved, probably. lol I hope all is going well with Audrey and Tuppence.

  3. My favorite part of, The Bishop's Wife' is at the end when David Niven talks about the stockings. I've always loved that part. I may have even blogged about it. If not, I will this year. :) Your weekend looks like the most fun! Those sweet grands must have LOVED having kittens around. We still have several Ravensburger puzzles around the house. I can't wait for Marcy to get old enough to put them together. Wait, yes I can. :)

  4. Now that's my kind of weekend - grandkids and kids, special visitors, and laughter and food too! They don't happen in our house with the grandkids across the country though. I like the movie White Christmas and have seen the re-make of The Bishop's Wife with Whitney Houston a few years ago. We don't have TV where we can get a steady feed of good movies but there are a few on Netflix. My favourite is probably Elf and we usually try to watch it once with a dish of Candy Cane Ice Cream and Christmas lights and scented candles on. Have a wonderful week of Thanksgiving Judy!

  5. so nice to see your beautiful and happy family. I love The Dress.. so sweet. I bet the kittens are loving the kids to. I have a photo somewhere in a book, of my hubby, my 3 male cousins, my uncle and two son in laws of my cousins, 7 males all in one photo. it was Christmas day and the kids were riding new toys in the street and I looked out and there they all stood in the MALE position when WAITING, 7 men, it was hilarious.

  14. Will have to watch the Bishops Wife, not sure I've seen it. That's a powerful NT Wright quote -- a challenge for us.

  15. Always love seeing what you're up to Lady! Your family is so lovely - and those grandkiddos are especially adorable! Oh if only I could come and grab and love up a kitten. ::sigh:: Darn allergies anyway. I got my MIL a special therapy "cat", for a Christmas present, that is mechanical (not a toy) made for people like her. It's so kitty like and has soft fur and moves on it's own and blinks, licks its paw, meow's etc. It also purrs and you can feel it right through your lap. I think she'll love it and respond to it so well!! I can't wait til Christmas comes so I can give it to her. ;)

I love both of those movies you mentioned!! Both so perfectly Christmas! I have them on my list for the season. xoxo

  16. It had to be fun having the little ones running around and enjoying themselves!
I love both of your movie choices too. A must see for me is Holiday Inn and The Christmas Carol with George C. Scott.

  17. I had never seen that movie either til a few years ago and I do love it. I do love the movies from the 1940s the best. What a great era. We live in a different world now.

  18. I do you love all the smiling faces of all the grandchildren and who doesn't like dressing up. I loved your video clip of sisters that was very funny. I have never seen that other film the Bishop's wife and I may send for that myself .

  19. Fun to see the grands doing their respective thing...the kittens are a plus for that. Pretend that you like each other,,,always good for some smiles...men don't like to be herded? That line good for smiles might have worked!

A good week to you, though I know that you have already enjoyed your family Thanksgiving, are you having another one just for the fun of it? You know, all the slaving in the kitchen?

The other movie, I am not sure if I have seen. Wonderful family photos. Happy Tuesday, enjoy your day and week ahead. Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family.
