1. What color is prominent in your home? Light brown or dark brown, depending upon how much gets dragged in on everyone's shoes. Are you glad about that or wishing you could cover it up or remove it? I can remove it, but it's a neverending job.
2. What's something you'll NEVER do again?
I will never again wallpaper a wall, unless I can't get this miserable wallpaper off. Then it will be my only option. Why is it that when you carefully follow instructions before applying wallpaper SO THAT it can be removed later, a mere 28 years on, it just won't come off!
3. Tell us a couple of ways you fit the stereotypes associated with your gender, and a couple of ways you don't.
a. I just can't believe the disrespect shown by the younger generation (I kinda think every generation thinks that, don't they.) b. I think that all the years and life experience ought to count for something besides getting one step closer to the nursing home.
a. I take responsibility for my own health and don't want to run to the doctor to give me a pill to fix whatever - well, except for putting in a hip implant, although I might just as well have done the first one myself. Thank goodness for the cream of the crop specialists at Mayo Clinic in Rochester who can fix almost anything. b. I try to keep up with technology in communication, but I don't tweet and I don't do Facebook. Hmmm. Maybe I need to reconsider my answer.
4. May is Motorcycle Awareness Month. Have you ever owned a motorcycle? I think I might have, years ago. Ever ridden a motorcycle? Yes, in the Bolivian jungles. If the opportunity presented itself would you
hop on a motorcycle and go for a ride? Maybe, wearing full armor and driving on a road with no traffic, except perhaps for an Amish horse and buggy. I've often thought it would be fun to take scooters through the Driftless Area of Wisconsin (SW). It's gorgeous there - I'd want to drive something slow and quiet - but I'd only do this in the summertime, not on those scary, icy, winding roads in the winter!
5. If someone wanted to understand you, what should they read, watch, and listen to?
Read N.T. Wright, C.S. Lewis, G.K. Chesterton (and as far as I know, they're not lone gunmen assassins*, but I can't prove it). Watch British mysteries, documentaries, and historical dramas. Listen to classical music, Michael Medved, and Laura Ingraham.
Why is it so hard to remember a name like bellflower?
Bell - Flower. How hard is that??
And I think this is creeping bellflower - along Fifth Avenue.
6. Insert your own random thought here.
From IMDB.com* (Remember Conspiracy Theory? One of my all-time favorite movies)
From IMDB.com* (Remember Conspiracy Theory? One of my all-time favorite movies)
Jerry: David Berkowitz, Ted Bundy, Richard Speck...
Alice: What about them?
Jerry: Serial killers. Serial killers only have two names. You ever notice that? But lone gunmen assassins, they always have three names. John Wilkes Booth, Lee Harvey Oswald, Mark David Chapman...
Alice: John Hinckley. He shot Reagan. He only has two names.
Jerry: Yeah, but he only just shot Reagan. Reagan didn't die. If Reagan had died, I'm pretty sure we probably would all know what John Hinckley's middle name was.
We missed this little guy when the family got together last weekend.
His daddy sent me the photo. But we'll get to see him next Sunday.

ReplyDeleteRiding a motorcycle in the Bolivian jungle: How cool is that! What a neat experience!!!
ReplyDeleteCan you paint over the wallpaper if you can't get it to come off? My parents put up wallpaper in their kitchen/family room area...I feel really sorry for the family who is buying the house; I'm afraid they're going to have a time trying to take it off, especially since some of it is over paneling.
I just said to Bob last week, we need to watch Conspiracy Theory again..for the umpteenth time. I love that movie. this is moth definitely not THE firth ave and I love your more... I road a motorcycle onece and will never again. sorry you missed the little sweetie being there... ha ha on your colors in your house, we have those to
ReplyDeleteThe clouds and sky in the photos you took on Fifth Avenue are so beautiful. What a memorable and breath-taking walk! My parents' home (built in 1974) had a lot of wallpaper in it. When we sold it last year, we left the wallpaper up. It seemed like it would have been such a huge job to take it down. Had to laugh when you referred to different shades of brown being tracked into your home. That's the same thing with our mudroom after coming in from taking care of the horses. Mud or dirt is always in that room. Hope you have a great week!
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed your answers today, especially #1 and #3 :) Brown is my color, too, and partially for the same reason you mentioned--tracked in :)
ReplyDeleteThat's an adorable picture in your random thoughts. Love it!
Kathy (Reflections)
I love the view of the road and sky. Just beautiful. The last shot of the little one with the kitty is so cute! I have never ridden a motorcycle. Browns and blues, my favorite colors in the home. Happy Wednesday, enjoy your day!
ReplyDeleteYou were riding a motorcycle in a jungle? Bolivia you say? How is it that we have never heard this before? You are full of surprises! A happy Memorial Day weekend to you!
ReplyDeleteMy dear friend, what a fun Hodgepodge today. Your answers are always a delight to read. And oh, your photos literally took my breath away! What stunning views.
ReplyDeleteHugs to you!
My girls used to call the sunshine in your first pictures, Jesus sunshine. They would look for it every time we went somewhere. "Look, Mom! It's Jesus sunshine!" Thanks for reminding me of that. I found a handheld steamer helps with that old wallpaper. But no more of that stuff in my house. Ever. 3A and B part 1-- AMEN! Goodness at the level of disrespect. There are still some who are taught better, though. I notice a few when I was teaching and was so grateful for those students. I could have guessed at most of your #5 answers. That all sounds just like you! :) That little one. All you grandchildren are just as precious as they can be!
ReplyDeleteLove your photos and I love the 5th Avenue - I see God there. I LOVE C.S.Lewis. I have never ridden a motorcycle - you go girl. Love your baby photo!! Okay let me think here - I totally agree about the disrespect that is out there and I do feel just like you that our age should count for something. I think people better get together before they ruin our country. If we can't get a long - how will the world? Sandie
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness gracious...the views on Fifth Avenue have me with my tongue hanging out...breathtakingly GORGEOUS photos here...ALL of them! What all have you tried to remove that wallpaper? Paper Tiger device? Spraying warm water on it afterwards? Using a putty knife? Once you get the outer paper off, even if it leaves the backing paper, the warm water should saturate it and should come right off, even if in small-ish pieces. Email me if you want to answer my questions. Also, I'm with Vee...a motorcycle in Bolivia, REALLY?
ReplyDeleteYes, we do need to notice and be thankful for those that are still taught respect. And some are. All of your photos are gorgeous, but I'm especially partial to those with the sun and clouds.
ReplyDeleteWe sprayed down old wallpaper with a mix of hot water and vinegar, I think, to make it easier to remove. It helped some, but wallpaper is another of those things I will probably never do again.
I consider myself fairly literate in the technology that I wish to use. I still would like to learn how to use Instagram. I tweet very occasionally, but Facebook -- not for me. I've resisted it this long and don't plan to join ever.
P.S. Yes, the Bolivian jungle. That was during the year I spent in Bolivia with Wycliffe Bible Translators. It was an amazing experience!
ReplyDeleteI love those views along the avenue! And I love that the name is Fifth Avenue! I think it's a much more beautiful one too. My brother had motorcycles over the years and as a 20 something he'd take me for drives. The last time he took me on one was in the early 20's I think and I was terrified. So, probably won't be doing that again....ever. Or climbing Mt. Katahdin in Maine. Have a great day!
ReplyDeleteI was with the others (I've read your answer to it now) motorcycle riding in Bolivia!? Wow! What an experience...and agree with Vee. A post about that would be soo interesting. Chuckled on your answer to number 1! BEAUTIFUL pictures!! Enjoy your day!
ReplyDeleteJudy... your first photo is magnificent! NYC's Fifth Ave. should look so good. Speaking of British Miniseries, I just finished watching "Call the Midwife." I can't believe I actually have to wait a whole year to spend time with those lovely characters again. Hope you have a great week.
ReplyDeleteWhat a delightful post Judy, Your motorcycle ride in the Bolivian Jungle must have been quite and experience! Loved all the photos! have a blessed day!
ReplyDeleteSue
Fifth Avenue is lovely! So have you ever written about your experiences with Wycliffe? I just saw your comment above and am pretty sure I never knew this about you.
ReplyDeleteThe walk on YOUR Fifth Avenue looks pretty fine . . .
ReplyDeleteLoved your random #6 . . .
Of late . . . it cracks me up when someone younger calls me dearie . . .
Wonder why . . .
Your pictures are gorgeous, especially that last one! Great movie quote.
ReplyDeleteWow, Judy, your photos are just gorgeous!!! I am with you on the wallpaper deal. Removing wallpaper is a nightmare, indeed. As much as I love it, it will never be on a wall in our home again. Riding in the Bolivian jungle on a motorcycle sounds like the beginning of a novel. Have a great week. ♥
ReplyDeleteJudy, great answers (AND photos!). I'm only commenting on two of them: motorcycles and wallpaper. To both I say "Never again!" The first left me with scars on my arm (still there) and the second with scars on my walls that had to be covered with a skim coat by a plasterer!
ReplyDeleteI just said to Debby wallpapering was something I hope to never do again. And maybe never have to remove it again.
ReplyDeleteI always get a kick out of your 5th Avenue, as I always think of NYC when I hear 5th Ave. Yours is far emptier and far more beautiful. I've had many a scary ride (one of them being in Bolivia) but thankfully never on a "moto." Glad your little guy there with the kitty will visit this weekend!
I agree with you. Over the years the doctor has called about one thing or another with my blood work and immediately wants to order a prescription. No way, many items can be fixed with a proper diet.
ReplyDeleteAdorable photo with your grandson and kitty....
