Grandpa, putting the straps on the tree branch
Supervisors stayed on the ground.
The Wednesday Hodgepodge is on hold until next week, as Joyce eagerly awaits the birth of their first grandchild.
In the meantime, family was here over the weekend and I've got a ton of photos to show you - of the newest addition to our house - the saucer swing.
This is the best purchase we've made in a long time. This swing, hanging from the branch of our huge maple, gives the kids a great arc and a great view - and with its 400 pound weight capacity, easily holds four grandkids at a time.
When I was pushing the swing, the repeated request was, 'Go higher! Go higher! ' Their next request was 'Go get Grandpa!! '

On Saturday we all piled into the vehicles and drove to nearby Sand Creek (a favorite), because the temp was mid 80s and what else would one want to do but wade in the clear water of Sand Creek. It looks green because it has a plant growing in it, but it's not a slimy plant, and the water is clear with a sandy/rocky bottom. The kids were hunting for pennies. (Miraculously, pennies on the creek bed appeared out of nowhere, which got all the kids into the water. Smart dad.)
In all the times we've been to that creek, we've never encountered other people enjoying it. Where are they on such a beautiful day?? But it was fun to have the entire park to ourselves, and I wonder how many other people actually take advantage of the beautiful creek to go wading. And treasure hunting!
And there were some quite extraordinary rocks in that creek!
Sand Creek is one of the few places I know of that still has its teeter totters.
Next weekend we have a family reunion at our house. Be forewarned.

I don't think they appreciated me coming into the room when they were napping.
That looks like the perfect weekend to me Judy!! Amelia has a swing like that and the kids love it, as for me I will take wading in that pretty creek.
ReplyDeleteWhat memories you are making with your grandchildren. My third granddaughter was born on the 21st and I've been traveling back and forth to help. This one is local. The other two are in NH. we have a big family reunion coming up at a place on the Potomac in WV for three nights. All but one of my siblings will be there with some of their offspring. Not sure yet if the new babe and her parents will come or not.
ReplyDeleteOh, my goodness, what fun photos, Judy! Sweet memories being made. Playing in a creek ranks at the top of my childhood memories. How cold that water always was! I saw one of those saucer swings just yesterday! And, wondered about it! Thank you for the good info of a well and happily used source of Little People entertainment! Have a wonderful week. blessings ~ tanna
ReplyDeleteHello, the swing looks awesome. Lots of great photos of the grandkiddies. The creek photos bring back memories of my childhood playing in the creeks or streams, it is fun. Great times and great family memories for you and your family. Enjoy your day!
ReplyDeleteWhat simple summer fun--a swing and a creek. Just can't beat that for childhood memories and pleasures. Our neighbors have one of those swings and the kids spend hours on it. Our grands have theirs installed in their "run around room" but it may go outside sometime. Have a great time this next weekend, Judy!
ReplyDeleteJudy, What a great time with the children. I love that swing. The creek looks so cool , great photos. of it. Blessings to all, xoxo, Susie
ReplyDeletep.s. I loved and laughed about, "Go get grandpa" :):)
Oh what fun that swing surely must be! I just may be on the look out for one of those the TN grands...of course, I will need to make sure they have a great tree like yours to hang it from. And what a wonderful park...so very picturesque and the perfect place to have tons of fun! The weather here the past few days has been gorgeous but I'm sure the heat and humidity will find us again before fall gets here. Friends of mine from church just returned from a trip to WI and they raved and raved of how beautiful it was...they called it pristine!
ReplyDeleteIt looks like you are having a fabulous Summer, Judy. Your pics are beautiful and my favorite is the last one. Enjoy your week.
ReplyDeletethis is much better than hodgepodge, I got to enjoy and smile all the way through the creek wading. one of my favorite things to do.. I loved the creek in KY,much like this one. bet that water is cold but I sure would like to wade in it. our park down by the river has several of these types of swings, but about twice as big around. this is perfect for your family and so is the tree... what a view to have while swinging. have you tried it out????? thanks for smiles today
ReplyDeleteIdyllic times, Judy. That rock - if I'm not mistaken - looks very much like the long-lost Great Rock of Wisconsin, which grants the holder instant happiness. They do say, when the rock comes together with the Great Map of Milwaukee, in the hands of a pure soul, that wonderful treasure can be found...
ReplyDeletePerfect examples of "Americana"! All these photos!
ReplyDeleteWhat could be more wonderful, than a big swing, on a huge old tree, at the Grand Parent's home?
And vying for "Most Wonderful," is a peaceful, clean stream... To wade in. And find 'treasures' in. And making it even better, having it all to their selves. :-)
Joy! This post says "Joy"! Thank you for sharing it.
Gentle hugs,
Luna Crone
I loved it all, thank you for sharing this special day in our lovely summer time...
ReplyDeleteI want to have one of those swings or rather I would love to swing on that swing LOL
And give me a creek to play in anytime with those sweet little ones!
You're such a sweetie!
Hugs, Roxy
Gosh I would LOVE to come to your house and I would swing and play in the water - it looks like so much fun! sandie
ReplyDeleteThis is so beautiful!
ReplyDeleteSuch perfect summer fun! And gorgeous pictures as always. Can't imagine why no one would at that creek. There is NO WHERE around here in So California where hundreds of others haven't decided to go too, lol. Glad you enjoyed!
ReplyDeleteFantastic pictures!! The swing looks like so much fun. Wading in the creek, great summer fun.
ReplyDeleteSuch a cute picture of the kids on the new swing. Looks like so much fun. And what a lovely creek to explore and play in. Especially when it's 80 degrees outside! Looks like you're enjoying summer, haven't been around too much but wanted to stop in and say hi. Blessings, Deborah
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful creek, Judy! As long as there are no leeches, I'm in! That swing looks incredibly fun! Unfortunately, I've developed vertigo in my later years so the fun will have to stay with watching the kiddos! What a great weekend you had! Blessings on your family reunion!
ReplyDeleteThat swing looks like so much fun!! And that creek is absolutely beautiful, it is amazing that there's no one else there.
ReplyDeleteLove the great swing, Judy! Such joyous times at your home. The creek at the park sure is bucolic! Reminds me of the one my siblings and I played in as children. Have a great time this next weekend with your family. xo ♥
ReplyDeleteGreat family pics Judy!! I loved the videos full of giggles on insta! They are the best!! ;)
ReplyDeleteBlessings to ya Doll. xoxo
Oh my, to be so young and carefree again! Wading in a clear, cool creek...just the best!! Great photos, as always! Now, on to the family reunion!! Can't wait to hear all about it!
ReplyDeleteWell, that just looks like a ton of fun! I would love to wade in that water...and I wouldn't need any pennies to be coaxed in! ;)
ReplyDeleteThe swing is a great investment! The children will have many happy memories of that wonderful swing at their grandparents' house!
ReplyDeleteLove the "treasure hunt." :)
The grands must love coming to your house. The swing will be an added attraction. Wading in a creek with pennies - such fun!
ReplyDeleteSuch great fun to be outside playing and swinging!
ReplyDeletePriceless pictures Judy . Oh I know the kids loved the swing . Looks like you all had a grand time making lots of memories . Hugs and blessings, Cindy
ReplyDeleteThank you for mentioning the fine points about that swing. It must be a great gatherer of grands and most excellent watcher of children and just think about all the brain cells being stimulated by all that swinging. I'd love a swing myself...might need to have a crane to get out of it, though. The creek is lovely and serene...a fine scene with the grands engaged in healthy play and all the treasure hunting. I'm glad that the smart dad stuck with pennies...some would have moved to quarters and that's no good on a number of levels.
ReplyDeleteJudy, can I be one of your grandchildren? I knew when I saw Mr C up in that tree and the two little supervisors, there was going to be a swing - and a grand swing at that! I could never swing for long (motion sickness), but loved it. And Sand Creek looks like heaven. I hope your beautiful photos won't cause a run on the place now!
ReplyDeleteOh Judy, I know I don't visit your blog regularly but when I do I always leave it feeling happy.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great post, fabulous family time and your photographs are a joy.
Thank you.
All the best Jan
