And One More Thing...

 Tommy and Smokey, my assistants
joining me on the screen porch

A couple weeks ago, I was looking for something that would hold my color pencils that I use when journaling (a habit forced encouraged by a dear friend of mine back in May.) Did I tell you about this already? If you've heard it before, just stop me. Anyway, I reluctantly began journaling and it was like drudgery! But after about a week, I decided it wasn't too bad, and now I can't stay away from it. I went from a nearly empty page each day to one filled with text, quotations I like, Scripture I love, and little things I like to draw. No, I'm not an artist, but really, the more I do this the easier it seems to become. And almost as addictive as eating pistachios while watching a movie!

So back to the point of all this: I tried carrying my color pencils in a Tupperware box. Ugh. Then I found a nice pencils box here in the house (one of those things I didn't purge - see?), but then went on Amazon to see if I could find a briefcase or something that would be handy to carry with me. I looked at cases with handles, but I already carry a large canvas bag and it would be one more thing!

Then I saw this colorful holder with spaces for 72 color pencils. It rolls up and easily fits into my canvas bag along with my journal, my wallet, and my little English red phone box tin of mints - so it's easy to carry with me. I ordered it. This is one reason Amazon loves me. Although I don't get birthday greetings from them like I do from Google.

 See? All wrapped up

Here's the Amazon link in case anyone's interested:

I love the fabric too. A nice canvas-type fabric with a print I like.
It came with two long black cords for tying it up after you've rolled up the canvas.
You've got to be kidding me! That is SO much work and such a nuisance!  So I cut the cords off and got two large ponytailers that I can quickly slip onto the roll.
Perfect!

You can see by my journal entry above, that I didn't seem to know what day it was before I started.  Good grief!

  1. I love your journal page! I need to pick mine back up but haven't found the time which is, of course, an excuse. I had one of those things for my colored pencils but I kept holding it in a way that made them fall out. I never could get that thing tight enough. Ha! Your kids and grandkids will love your journals one day. We certainly did enjoy my mother-in-law's. She had such insight to so many things. So...how in the world will we all fill our Wednesdays now?

  2. Your color pencil pouch looks cute and compact. Love them!

  3. that pouch is perfect and if I did what you do would order one... I can see you do have talent in drawing. over my 74 years I have tried several times to journal. I just can't. I pick up the pen and nothing.. nothing at all. I think my blog is my journal, I post every single thing that happens, like a conversation with myself but for others to read. makes no sense I can blog every day but not journal.... you know I LOVE LOVE LOVE those silly lover kitties

  4. Excellent idea . . .
Might have to check the “Amazon Palace” for something for my paint brushes.
Wonder if your pouch might work.
I have something like that for my knitting needles.
(And I am removing the cords, replacing with pony tail holder, brilliant! TY)
    Right now I use a crock . . . and it doesn’t travel well . . . (smile)
Like your drawing/journaling with the colored pencils!

Do Smokey and Tommy usually cuddle up together for naps?
    They are so precious . . . I adore them . . .

  5. I just have not been able to get into journaling although I tried many years ago when the kids were small. But, I do so admire those of you are disciplined enough to stay with it. Love your pencil holder/bag. What a great idea! And of course, love my favorite cuddling cats. We will be heading to northern Indiana in a couple weeks and I can't wait for the cooler temps that you are now enjoying. We had a heat index yesterday of 100. Crazy, humid, southern heat!

  6. Judy, Stop teasing me with those loving cats. LOL. I like this way of carrying your pencils. Way better than all in a box. Pretty too. Blessings, xoxo, Susie

  7. Judy, thanks for the peek at your journal. I love to journal my days in the garden and record the goings on of the day. I'm impressed at your pretty drawing! I use the bullet style of recording and rarely do I draw. I save quotes that I like as well and record them. They have proved to be valuable for checking back on when and where we did whatever in the garden. Your colored pencil pouch is very nice. Love what you said about birthday greetings from your favorite shopping site! Have a great weekend. ♥

  8. That does work very well for you pencils. My wife made both of us similar kind of thing to hold paint brushes. The handles slide in their cloth spot and stay together. Your cats are wonderful.

  13. I just love that your cats sleep together and cuddle like that! The pencil holder is awesome and perfect for those who journal and/or color. I would be like you... find an easier way to hold it together! Perfect solution!

  16. That's such a great pencil case! I like your idea of using pony tail holders to keep it wrapped. And you've started journaling? Have you ever written in journals before?

  18. I’m trying to decide if I believe you... Thing is, I have wanted to keep a daily journal just for the little things...bills paid, daily temps, weather report, snowfall, when the Fedex truck backed into the house, stuff like that. I have never thought it would be easy or fun so have not done it. And now you tell me that it is quite easy after all. Hmmmm...

  20. I write in my journal every day...it IS addictive. But I always want to add more art but don't. Maybe I'll change my ways. I have plenty of colored pencils. Of course now I need one of these handy dandy pouches! heehee! Hugs!

  21. I love the idea of using colored pencils. I bet I would journal if I tried it with my colored pencils. I have plenty of empty journals!

  22. Very cool. I have something similar for my crochet hooks--a friend made it.
