Putting Away Christmas on a Wednesday Medley

January 8, day of disassembling Christmas
at my house. What a sad project.

But thanks so much to Terri
for Wednesday Medley.
She writes the questions;
we write the answers.

1.  It may be a little shocking, but National Static Electricity Day is January 9!!  Do you often get shocked often when you touch metal?  Here are some things to avoid!

Well, I don't get many shocks, which is shocking in itself, considering the fact that we burn wood. But we do keep two humidifiers going at all times, so perhaps that is why. I like the tip of carrying a key around to constantly discharge electricity. Interesting!
Getting all packed away until next November
2.  There are actually two "National" days worthy of mention! It is also National Law Enforcement Appreciation Day.  Our men and women working in many areas of law enforcement put their lives on the line for us daily.  Do you know someone working in law enforcement who you can thank today?
I could thank my cousin, who works as an investigator for the local county sheriff's department. But as I sit here, I think I smell a mouse who might have met his demise inside the wall, so I'll deal with that first. You'd think that with two cats, there wouldn't be a mouse issue at all. But living in a farmhouse, there is occasionally a little rascal that escapes their hunting eyes. And actually, neither one is a murderer, they're both cuddlers. So there is a problem. Aren't you glad I told you that.

3.  At our house right now it is all about football.  Joe's Philadelphia Eagles barely won their game on Sunday to move forward in the playoffs and another chance to play in the Super Bowl this year.  Do you have a favorite team in the playoffs or does football make you yawn?  Is there a Super Bowl party in your future, no matter the teams playing?
This question is definitely for Pam! Football is totally off my radar.
It's supposed to get down to 7 degrees, so it's a good
thing the Nativity got put away in the Christmas closet today.

4.  Speaking of parties, there is always lots of food at parties I attend.  Tell us a weird food combination that you really enjoy (or have enjoyed).  It doesn't have to be party food.
I can't think of any weird food I've eaten, but I do love peanuts and olives; anything and cream cheese, cheesecake, dark chocolate, lemon anything, etc. etc. In fact, I was just thinking of the fact that most of what takes up space in our refrigerator is produce, cheese, bacon, and olives.
 The neighbor's pickup.
5.  Since we are on games and parties, what game have you spent the most hours playing?
The last game I played was with the grandkids.  And although the photo below is of a puzzle we were putting together, the game was called, 'Who Is It?' a classic kids' board game. Really cute, and teaches determining who it is by the process of elimination. Good skill.

That's not an owie on her mouth. I think it's chocolate. :-)

6.  Tell us something random about your week so far.
Having slept until 9:30 AM, the latest I think I've ever slept in my entire life (usually up at 6:30),  I took this photo of Smokey and me, and was reminded of two things: one: that I need to have my daughter polish my toenails and two: that I still miss Jazzie, that grandpuppy who is secondarily responsible for the jagged edge to my robe. I finally did learn not to leave dog cookies in pockets, but it took me two jackets and the hem of my robe to finally get the message.

 Tommy and Smokey

Remember that fire in the photo above? Well, these two were snuggling up together in the chair nearby. They know all the best spots to relax! They're not worried about no stinking mice!

  1. Hi Judy,
I am with you about packing up Christmas. I had the blues after taking Sam to the airport and saying Goodbye, so I will pack up Christmas this Saturday. ;-)
Lucy is really growing up, goodness!!
Have a great rest of the week,
    Carla

  2. It's sad to me when the Christmas decorations are all gone. I leave my lights on the mantel and that helps a little. It's that morning glow when I get up that I love and miss when it's all gone. I LOVE that pickup truck picture and you little cutie with chocolate smudges:) Have a blessed day, stay warm! HUGS!

  3. Football is off our radar too. Stay warm, dear Judy!!

  4. I still have my Christmas quilt here on the sofa. I hate to put everything away! But it hasn't been very cold here so maybe I won't need it! Enjoy your day! Tell those cats to take care of the mice! lol Hugs!

  5. Oh goodness! I hate it when something crawls up in the walls to die. So stinky! And a PAIN! I could tell those sweet kitties were cuddlers all along. :) Yep, that question was a good one for me except football season was not good to me this year. I'm crushed and will be licking my wounds from February to August when the motto kicks back in-- well, maybe next year. Ha! My decorations are mostly down and packed away and it was depressing as usual. A teacher friend of mine posted a video of her 3 year old crying when she found out Christmas was gone until December. I'm right there with her.

  6. I too am packing away Christmas and will re-decorate for Winter and Valentine's Day. It will take me about 2 weeks though....Happy New Year to you!!
    Hugs,
    Debbie

  7. Our new kitten is not worried about mice either, though she is plenty curious. Her favorite spot is right in the front of the wood stove. Her belly feels so hot, but she loves it.

  8. Lovely photos and yes it's sad to pack Christmas away but has to be done. You're cats definitely look like they are no help with mice. I hope you managed to identify and deal with the smell.

  9. I love the camel in your nativity set, and the set itself and the stove it is sitting on. and with that view out your window how could you be sad even while packing away decorations. stunning view and LOVE the photo of the truck. and of course the two loving KATS.. melts my heart everytime I see them cuddle. good to see you pop up again in my feed. about the static. I have it year round, I can't even get a gallon of milk out of the Walmart fridge without being zapped. when I pump gas, I always lay my hand on the car before I pump. bob said the sparks I send off could easy start a fire from fumes. the thing is it does it most of the time but not all the time..

  10. Looks like you have had some snow. None here yet.
Christmas decor disappeared on the 1st since on the 2nd I had surgery. One week passed I'm doing as well as can e expected.

  11. Your mouse story cracked me up. Unfortunately the neighborhood cats like to kill mice and put them on our back porch. Then eventually either them or another animal comes and takes them away.

  12. Stinkin’ mice probably smell like sizzlin’ steak to those two. Sorry about the mice situation and hope that that’s the last of it. Yes, you’ll need the woodstove if it’s to get that cold. All this talk of Christmas being put away reminds me that just because it is upstairs does not mean that it is “put away.” I plug at it slowly, especially when sorting and culling. I’m up to getting rid of two pillows, four placemats, one ornament, and odd and sundry greenery and reddery (poinsettias). Stay cozy...I’d love to bake biscuits in a woodstove again, even baked potatoes...they come out so heavenly...add butter and sour cream...hmmm. Good heavens! It must be time for lunch!

  13. Let me see what I remember here:
The neighbors pick up - did you use photo shop on that or were the colors just that beautiful?
Static electricity - not too much either.
No police that I know personally.
All the foods you like - I LIKE!
I think the Superbowl will be here in February.
    Love puzzles.
Love your cats - do you have three?
Puzzles are fun and she is adorable!
The dogs can smell treats anywhere.
    Love, sandie

  14. I always get very melancholy after the Christmas goes away...not sure why but I guess just sad that it is all the visits and festivities with family and friends are over. Your cats are adorable snugglers...mine are lovers and not fighters also...I think mine would die of shock if they ever saw a live mouse...HA!

  15. There is a sadness to putting away the decorations. I always think about what life will have brought us the next time we take them out. Eek to the dead mouse. I hope you found him or her. Your cats look way too comfortable to be concerned about going for mice. That's a great photo of your neighbor's pickup. And no football here either, unless someone is visiting who wants to watch it. It looks like a new fam photo at the bottom. To think all those people came about (at least most of them) because two people fell in love!

  16. Love the photo of the pickup truck (those blues!) and the new family photo below. There sure are a lot of you!

Hate it when mice die in the walls. I remember my grandmother would do something with orange peels to cover up the smell (did she bake orange peels in the oven, maybe? I remember the orange peel in a pan on top of the kitchen stove but it's a very vague memory).

I find that burning a candle helps some.

We had loads of snow here today and it's still snowing and blowing. Thousands have lost power .. so thankful that we still have it as of yet. Christmas tree will be up through this weekend, I think.

  17. Oh I had to laugh about the cats... tomcats have no concern whatsoever about mice... they just expect to have their food provided for them, and plenty of time to sleep, lol... now female cats on the other hand might be more productive for you! We've had female cats that killed snakes even, but I've never seen a tomcat do such a thing, ha! Well, I hope the smell leaves soon! It always feels good to get Christmas cleaned up and put away, that's a gorgeous nativity! Hugs and blessings :)

  18. That first photo is especially beautiful - I thought so earlier when I saw it on Instagram too! Your cats always look so cozy; I love that they are two colors of Tabby. Something died in the walls of our former house one time and it took ages for the smell to go away - ugh! I hope yours clears up sooner than that.

  19. Tommy and Smokey are such a contented pair. They make me smile each time I see them! They can be forgiven their apathy about mice, can't they? Because they are so absolutely adorable?

You have such a beautiful family!! (And I am amazed every time I see a photo of your son who looks so much like Mr. Cranberry!)

It certainly isn't as much fun to dismantle Christmas as it is to put it all up in November! But it does feel good to have it done.

  20. I think your 2 cats have the right idea, snuggling up beside that lovely fire. My decorations are all away now also

  21. A beautiful picture at the top of your post, but it does also look cold and bleak as well as beautiful. It's always a shame to take down decorations. I have left some fairy lights up this year till the days brighten.

  22. Judy, I love your pictures. The field shot could have been right here. :) I see your puzzle girl has grown just a bit from the family photo you post. What a little sweetie. Hope all is well and you are enjoying lots of family time. Blessings , stay warm, xoxo, Susie

  23. Oh I loved all of your sweet pictures. And that truck...LOVE IT! I miss my Christmas decor....but mainly the beautiful lights. I enjoyed my mornings sitting in my chair with the Christmas lights on and coffee in hand. I hope you have a wonderful rest of the week Judy. Hugs and blessings, Cindy
