This is one of the sweet faces that greet me each morning when I come downstairs to make the coffee. And the body attached to that head is a long-haired one. It's favorite pastime is shedding. Shedding - not just in a hair here and there, but often in generous clumps which quickly form windrows when the fan from the AC or furnace kicks in.
Bridger is one dog who loves being brushed. The pile you see to the right is from just one brushing, and just from his right hind quarter. I am not kidding you. I've seen whole dogs smaller than the pile of hair I get from one of Bridger's thighs!
Would I ever again get a long-haired German Shepherd, knowing what prodigious shedders they are??
Do you have a shedder at your house?? Did you find a vacuum cleaner that really picks up pet hair? Please let me know.
Sadie sheds all the time, but she is an outside dog. I really need to sit her down and brush her out, but right now it is so dang hot outside! Since she is a short haired dog,, I don't think the fur is bothering here as much as Bridger's would him. Now my cat is a whole other story, the big fat cat! (that's what I call her sometimes!) Shhhhhhh! ;-)
ReplyDeleteGah! No wonder I'm allergic to you!! ;) ;)
ReplyDeleteWe have an outdoor cat because my daughter is allergic or she would totally be a shredder.... :O)
ReplyDeleteHe is such a great looking dog... and look at the dog laying next to him..LOL! We have three cats... two short haired and one long haired... our vacuum does it's job as best as it can, but alas, that's not good enough!! Probably doesn't help that both Chris and I have long hair too!!
ReplyDeleteOh my!! Deuce is our shedder! White fur everywhere!! I bought a Bissell at a really good price when Linens and Things was going out of business in our area...I hate to take advantage of a store's misfortune, but I tell ya, I'd been waiting to find a good deal on a nice vacuum cleaner!! It has dual cylindar with a large capacity and I still have to empty it more than once during a thorough cleaning of Deuce and Harley's play area in the main room!
ReplyDeleteI am not sure which is worse....Shedding....or Mats. It is very nice that our Kerri doesn't shed but than I feel so guilty that we are not constantly brushing her, as she gets horrible mats! It is amazing how much fur they have! When we cut(or should I say shear?) Kerri it is a whole another dogs worth!
ReplyDeleteBut don't they just love the attention! Kerri starts to purr when we brush her! I know dogs don't purr but she does.
Fortunately, doesn't get mats, except those he occasionally gets behind his ears when he's been out collecting burdock. That is horrid. Then he gets scared cuz his hair feels tight and funny, so he slinks to the house and hides in a corner. I gently pull the hairs apart until I can lift a burdock out, then repeat as often as necessary - often about 50 times! This is why my husband is OCD about killing burdock. :-)
ReplyDeleteI shouldn't have told Bethany about this. ;-) But I think she feels it as soon as she steps into the house. :-(
I think there should be a vacuum cleaner suction space like a mopboard around each room. You set the dial for the density of what you want picked up, then turn it on and everything on the floor that's the thickness of dog hair gets sucked under the 'mopboard.' Why doesn't anyone ever manufacture my brilliant suggestions??? lol
I am in AWE of that dog's amazing extra poundage in hair. You need to find a market for that stuff. :)
ReplyDeleteSorry, I can't help you with the vaccuuming thing. I don't have indoor pets -- but our dog sheds copious amounts each spring until our lawn is covered in fluff. We just mow it. But I doubt you want to try that indoors . . . Grin.
Maybe you need to learn to spin, if you don't already? Wish our cats would cooperate like that when brushed. They do NOT like it!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful dog! I love looking at your animal pictures when I stop by! It is a lot of work with shedding. I would love for you to come and join my network! Come and visit Mama's Little Nestwork and join the great group of bloggers! Have a great night!

Wow, that is alot of hair, bless his heart. My cat is long haired, but not that bad.
ReplyDeleteOMGosh!! That's a lot of hair!! And I thought I shedded a lot! ;) He is SO CUTE, btw!
ReplyDeleteOh my word! I thought that pile was a kitty!
ReplyDeleteWow! That is a ton of hair! What a beautiful dog though! Sorry I can't help with the vacuum.
ReplyDeleteHave a great day!
Sherry
My dog is the same way. In the spring he sheds his undercoat. Wow what a ton of short red hair. Through out the summer he continues to shed. I keep on brushing & the hair keeps on shedding. Even though Brodie sheds a ton I think your fur pile from Bridger wins the prize:-)
ReplyDeleteTHAT is a lot of hair! I swear by my Dyson, love it, love it, love it.
ReplyDeleteWell, Bridger does have a handsome face to look at. As far as the hair goes you have the perfect brush for it. I have one of those for Annie but she lets me get about 1 pass over and then tries to bite as she does not like that nice 'hair getting' brush. :( I paid a lot of money for it too! (one flank, huh?!! wow!)
ReplyDeleteWOW! Now that's a lot of hair!! And I thought I got a lot of hair off my kitty when I brush him. lol
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for joining Furry Friends Friday. I hope you'll share more next week=)) I enjoy seeing all the furry guys=)
P.S...I have a Dyson and absolutely love it!!!! Wouldn't trade it for any other kind=)
ReplyDeleteOh dear, it looks as if I didn't do something right when I made the button. I followed all directions thought.
ReplyDeleteI'll try and get it fixed this weekend. Thanks so much for pointing this out.
He is so beautiful! I had a part chow/part shepherd who shed like that. He loved being brushed. It seems like I always had his hair floating around. I never got it all picked up!
ReplyDeleteWow... that's a lot of hair! I totally can sympathize... I'm always finding tumbleweeds of Bella hair rolling around the floor. I agree with the people who recommended the Dyson animal vac - it works great! Now I'm just looking for a broom/dustmop that will work as well on the hardwood floors...
