Hymn Sing

Pre-Hymn Sing, at the pond garden

Lest you think that our hymn sings are solemn occasions, let me dissuade you from any such notion. We are simply friends who love to have fun, can't get over God's love for us in Christ Jesus, and love to praise Him with our voices.

Pre-Hymn Sing, Making our way toward the house
The Norwegian 'Hello' is a lot like the Norwegian 'Goodbye.'
We don't rush into things. :-)

On Sunday evening, our house was filled with 26 voices, praising God for His majesty, power, grace, mercy, patience, kindness, and other amazing attributes! As I'm writing this, I'm reminded of Psalm 148, which states:

Praise ye the LORD. Praise ye the LORD from the heavens: praise him in the heights.
Praise ye him, all his angels: praise ye him, all his hosts.
Praise ye him, sun and moon: praise him, all ye stars of light.
Praise him, ye heavens of heavens, and ye waters that be above the heavens.
Let them praise the name of the LORD: for he commanded, and they were created.
He hath also stablished them for ever and ever: he hath made a decree which shall not pass.

(By the way, I think this Scripture is quoted in Dorothy L. Sayers' 'The Nine Tailors.')

Crown Him with many crowns, the Lamb upon His throne!

We often manage to harmonize, but always at least make a joyful noise! Why? Because of the joy that comes from knowing that God has sent a Rescuer, His Son, to secure our salvation. Not because of anything we've done, but in spite of what we've done...because of His immeasurable grace and mercy.  So how could this possibly be a solemn occasion?  We have Joy and Freedom in Christ. This is FUN!!! And trust me, we do love to have a great time. :-)

All Creatures of our God and King,
Lift up your voice and with us sing, Alleluia!

Okay, so make that 24 voices lifted in song. I think these two were busy trying to find out what was in that toy box!

Our pianist, getting some serious assistance

Come, Thou Fount of every blessing
Tune my heart to sing Thy praise
Streams of mercy, never ceasing
Call for songs of loudest praise!!

Good, True & Beautiful

  1. So amazing! The only thing close to hymn sing experience outside of Church worship I have is singing Christmas carols but it is something great to do all year round.

  5. I love the hymns you picked! "Come Thou Fount" is one of my favorites. I think my favorite one is "Holy, Holy, Holy". I love singing hymns, although with me it's more like "making a joyful noise unto the Lord". My sisters got the musical talent in the family, I got the height! :)

Oh, I tagged you on my post today, check it out!!

  6. I love to sing; it's the one part of school I have always missed. Our choir was a show choir, but we really rocked the gospels. Have you ever seen the Sister Act movies with Whoopee Goldberg? I love the singing in those movies. It cracks me up when we are in church, and one of those songs is picked for the day. I have this picture of Whoopee in my head, those beautiful voices, and a funkier tempo than our guitarist usually chooses! ;-) Make Joyful Noise!

  7. I couldn't agree more... I LOVE to sing and gathering a group of friends together to Praise our God and Creator has to be one of my MOST favorite things to do. You've inspired me to try to organize something at my house before the summer is over... I just wish I knew how to play the piano!

  8. Great hymns! We were talking in choir recently that church is about the only place where people sing together anymore....glad to see you proving us wrong!
