Artificial Exercise

It's been a while since it looked like this from our deck.

This is the current view from our front door.

With persistent sub-zero temps, infrequent rays of sunshine, and energy I need to burn (love the euphemism, don't you?) I decided I had to get back on the old you-know-what. You can see that Bridger feels pretty much the same way I do about it.

There's just something irritating about having to do 'artificial exercise.' I despise it! I'd much rather be out working in the garden or yard, if they weren't under feet of snow.

I do happen to be one of those who has a headset that I can plug into the TV, so I can watch DVDs of my choice while walking. Sometimes it's Simon Schama, but this week I've been on tour in Europe with Rick Steves. So why am I whining, right?

It's not like being outdoors in the summertime, but it does help.

A little.

Actually, it helps a lot.

It's just difficult persuading my body to ambulate toward the treadmill and step on.

  1. The view from your deck is BEAUTIFUL. I might have to come visit sometime (after the snow melts of course). ;)

We have yet another ice/snow day here. I don't know how you manage for months at a time like this. Thankfully it was warmer (45 degrees) this weekend so I was able to stock up on Dr Pepper and sweet tea.

Those DVDs look wonderful! I so want to go to Europe one day!!

Have a great day! Stay warm!

    :)

  2. I agree,what a lovely view!
I too miss working in the garden...we do not have the snow on the ground that you do currently, but it is very cold and we are all inside wanting to be outside..without shoes! ♥

  3. I am one of those weirdos who like walking on a treadmill. Of course, that's because I'm from Louisiana where it's brutal to be outside most of the time and with the treadmill, at least I can be in the air conditioning. Sounds crazy, I know. I have to say that this year and particularly right now, I am looking forward to summer in the worst way. Take care and have a wonderful Wednesday, Candace

  4. I HATE treadmills. Bought one once and took it back. I, too, like walking outside, but since 60 degrees is cold to me, I do a weight watchers video in the "cold" weather. By the way, it's snowing like crazy here today. Expecting 4-8 inches, depending on who you listen to. Next week is supposed to be in the 60's. Arkansas! 60 degrees may seem warm next week!

  5. I’m looking forward to warmer weather too. Though I'm more of an indoor type :-) I love to garden and be out but I also love being all cozy inside. We just got an elliptical and I don't mind working out inside but alas no TV in that room to watch. That would definitely help. I think I would last longer if I could watch a show.

  6. Virtual walking and travel, not ideal but I like the whole concept. A friend is trying to get me to buy a bike.
At the moment when I have the time I watch a mixture of Columbo (sorry !!, I'm on to the last box set now), Francesco Da Mosto's Mediterranean voyage and Michael Portillo's Great British Railway journeys through the eyes of Victorian guidebook writer Bradshaw (on BBC iplayer... playback TV).

  7. I'm right there with you. Zumba three times a week, but my treadmill and I are still kind of staring at each other. I've been on it twice since we put it out in the sun room. DANG! I haven't blogged about the sun room yet! UGH!

  8. Great minds! I hear ya! I just got my Jillian Michaels exercise DVDs delivered from Walmart because with all these snow days they keep closing the gym! Ugh! Gotta get back in shape for spring. If it ever arrives!

    Lots of yummy love,

  9. LOL.. I was just telling Chris I wished I had a treadmill so that I didn't have to run outside!! But I know exactly what you mean...if I actually couldn't do it, I would be just like you!

  10. Wow, it's hard to believe that's the same place! I feel the same way you do about artificial exercise (or even exercise in general). It won't be too much longer before you can get out and garden, right? ;)

  11. What a beautifully inventive way to exercise during your snowbound months! Funny, I'd actually been wondering how in the world snowbound people did any exercise!! Last week while we were iced in for multiple days, we all laughed at how much weight we were able to gain in so little time, lol! I guess when that's your way of life, you learn how to compensate!

  12. I totally agree with you. I am having a hard time getting on the treadmill lately. I would much rather take a walk. So good for you and your sweet dog (who made me laugh). Thanks for inspiring me!!
