And another tornado in the kitchen!
Using a 2x10 piece of lumber that was approximately 2' long, they attached an 18" dowel to one corner. They then covered the board with foil or something on which to place the cake.
I think the cake was probably 2 - 9x13 inch cakes, baked, and set end to end and frosted.
The tornado itself was constructed of Rice Krispie treats molded around the dowel and stabilized with macrame cord or twine, then frosted with gray frosting. Candles, cars, sheep, cows, etc. had all become victims of the swirling tornado, which you can see from the photo.
I've made a lot of theme birthday cakes in my time, but this one far surpassed any barns, clowns, John Deere, or Thomas cakes I've ever made! Good job, Mom and Dad! It was amazing!
What was the most fun birthday cake you've ever made? I'd love to hear about it!

That is the best Birthday cake ever! It really showcases their creativity. I'm a little baffled on how that tornado is standing up. Is it made out of cake??
ReplyDeleteWOW. What a cake! and the pics are cool too. I think my best cake ever was a princess with her castle (using a barbie style doll and frosting her up and square and round cakes cut up into different sizes for the castle. For my daughter's 3rd birthday [she'll be 31 in March]. Unfortunately, no pics but she was a beauty. Have a great day.
ReplyDeleteThat cake is awesome! I love the way the tornado had picked up people and animals! I made cakes when our daughters were growing up...my favorites were the pumpkin cakes for Birdie. Her birthday is in October and she always wanted a Halloween theme.
ReplyDeleteWow! Now THAT is creative. I once made a purple sheet cake for my daughter, I think she was 3 or 4 and she spilled her glass of water all over it. We ate it anyway and still laugh about it.
ReplyDeleteCome on!!! That is the coolest cake I've ever seen. See just another reason I'd like to be adopted by your family!
ReplyDeleteLots of yummy love,

ReplyDeleteI love the cake and the the party photos..so nice. Some time though it would be nice to see one of you in attendance. :) The birthday boy looked pretty happy...who wouldn't with that cake.
ReplyDeleteI remember making Scott a train cake. I had covered a big piece of rectangle cardboard and covered it with green shiny tin foil to resemble grass. I laid a train track, put some globs of frosting to hold some trees and made a train car for each kid attending. Scott (of course) got the engine and in the side window of the engine car I had a small photograph of him to look like the conductor. What a fun memory that was...thanks! :) (btw It was his 3rd birthday.)
How fun can you get? I'm taking cake decorating classes with my granddaughter, and right now we are doing fondants. Lots of work! And I'm on weight watchers!
