Barns of NW Wisconsin - Barron County

Barn at the south end of the Poor Farm Road
Barron County, Wisconsin

It won't be long now...

By the looks of that roof line, the south wall leaning out, and the boards above buckling, this old barn probably won't stand many years longer.

Not only do I drive past this barn several times a month, but it is in the same neighborhood as the school I attended in first and second grade. At that time, everyone knew his/her neighbors because the kids all attended the same country school. And most of us walked to school - as only the Amish do now.

 Stalactite

 Stalagmite

Yes, sensible people would probably cut down this poor little plum tree.

And, by the way, WINTER is still here in NW Wisconsin, just in case anyone is asking.

But we're hoping for 40 degrees by Easter Sunday!
We are SO ready!

  3. I always enjoy your images, Judy! The snow just makes me shiver! I surely do hope you have some warmer temps for our early Easter this year. It will take more than 40 degrees for a week to melt all of that stuff, though. Good golly!

  4. We got another 8" of snow dumped on us again yesterday. I've hired a hit man to find that little groundhog!

Doesn't weather in the 40's sound like summer time right now?

  5. winter is still here to, but not as cold as yours, but we are having very unseasonable cold temps for Florida. in the 40's tomorrow and highs in 60's which is not our type temps... the rest of the week will be cold for us, but we have a promise from the weather guys of sunshine

  6. Love the barn! I always like the way they look--antiquated and nostalgic and all that. And then I get sort of sad to think that they won't be around much longer. We're finally having winter too. Though only with chilly temps and wind. No snow. No snow at all...quit hogging the snow, Judy. LOL

  7. Love old barns like that. I see them every so often still when I visit my family in Nebraska.
As for the snow.. it sure looks lovely... but I'll still take our 80 degree weather over it any day!!!

  8. Love the barn even if it has seen better days. We had snow overnight! Boo! Hiss!

  9. Old barns just melt my heart. Looks like there is another kind of melting in store for you. It gets to 40 here in Southern California and we think it's the end of the world.....

  12. Ah yes March in Wisconsin...
I'm assuming spring will come sooner or later. ;-)

  13. I love a red barn, crumbling or standing. Down here they rarely paint the barns, just keep them old and tired looking and that way the taxes are less, so I hear.

  18. Such a pretty picture--barns in snow. People in snow after snow, still pretty to us who haven't gotten anything but a dusting this year, but it must be getting very old. I hope you do warm up for Easter.

  19. My husband looked over at my screen. "What's that?" he said...looking at your picture of your stalactite. Then, " What's that?" for your stalagmite. I told him..."We bloggers are so bored writing about this weather we find interest in many unusual things....now turn around and look at your own computer."
    Balisha :)
I'm kind of testy this morning :)

  20. We too are looking forward to 40 degrees! It wouldn't be too bad here but for the wind.....

  21. Nice pics. I'm an old barn lover too. It does make me sad when those structures I've seen my whole life just disappear.

  22. Hi Judy, you hoping for 40 degrees certainly makes me seem surly complaining about our cold windy 47 degree day today with sun. The barn is lovely. I sent you an email with no answers, sorry. Olive

  32. Love that beautiful old barn! I always wonder how roads get their names, but Poor Farm Road does not sound like a story with a happy ending.

  38. I hate to see these old barns being neglected. We're having some warmer temps too. It's funny I just saw Amish children walking to school this morning on my way to a quilting class.
