At the Wedding
Last Thursday we spent the day near Westby, WI. I love that area! It was a gorgeous day, and as we always do in that part of the state, we took a nice drive around the coulees and ridges. At one point, we came upon the site of an Amish wedding which had obviously just taken place. We met quite a few attendees already leaving the wedding by buggy or by foot to go home for chores.
Of course I didn't take photos of people, and just barely got these photos (out my window) of the lineup of buggies. I noticed that all the people we met were wearing very formal attire, and the driver of each buggy was wearing white gloves. Evidently that's to keep the reins from getting his hands dirty. Looked pretty snazzy.

So Eric phoned the other night. I was in Sam's Club. I answered with,
'You've got 2 minutes. I'm in the store.' (Don't worry. He'd be offended if I were nice to him. :-)
'I think Daniel wants to come up to your house to deliver the ____, so it sounds like you may be having Amish for dinner.'
'Mmmm, are they tasty?'
'Yeah, as long as they're slow cooked.'

How fun to see an Amish wedding! It such a beautiful sight to see buggies all lined up, opposed to cars all lined up, don't you think! I love how their farms are always so taken care of. Very nice!
Your photos always make me want to hop in the car and head up your way! Such a pretty area, and so interesting. One of my old Multiply friends (now just Facebook) works for some Amish people, driving them places they need to go and she does printing for them on her computer - signs and such. She has become quite friendly with them and talks about them frequently on FB. It is certainly a more simple way to live.

so many gorgeous photos to look at today. my favorite is the old barn under the trolls... i love the Amish barns but they are to pretty and perfect. i like the old rustic look. love that hitching rail and can't wait to hear how the visit went. you and your hubby have conversations like we do
Beautiful part of our state. Our son went to LaCrosse, I loved that area too!! Have you heard of a new publication for just those of us who love Wisconsin? Its called "Our Wisconsin" check it out: OurWisconsinMagazine.com They have a guest writer from the Shawano area who is an Amish farmer.
Terrific photos! My daughter and I are going to the annual Amish auction tomorrow. I love to look at the quilts but last year the least expensive still went for nearly a thousand dollars. Not in my price range. ;)

It is beautiful there - just beautiful. And the Amish is so interesting. What seems funny to me - is a lot of who we are is where we were born in to - do you know what I mean? It seem so hard to be Amish -but that is all they have ever known. sandie
