My Favorite Union Soldier

Our Son-in-Law, the history teacher,
who would make a great reenactor!

I love this photo. I don't know why it took me so long to get it posted.

A lot of what we know about my Great Great Grandpa Isaac Timblin, who fought in the Civil War with the 139 Pennsylvania, was discovered by our son-in-law. I guess I was always too busy reading about the Army of Northern Virginia.

And then there's the next generation,
more interested in Thomas and Friends  :-)

We get to spend time with them (and our daughter and baby - see below) over Thanksgiving break. Can't wait! Skyping and phone calls are nice, but they're just not the same as a real-life hug. Nine hours is too far away.

We got this photo the other day...

Delivery expected late March, 2014

So the other day, Henry was talking to his little unborn sister. He said, 'Hi, Baby. I love you.' So our daughter told him to say, 'I am your brother Henry.'  He got really close to her belly and said, 'You are my brother Henry!'  :-)

He seems to think that Henry would be a good name for his baby sister also. When his mom said that Henry was a boy's name, he replied, 'No, Henry is a train's name.'

How can you argue with that?

  6. Awwww.... I love that story!

I also love Civil War history. Did your ancestor make it through the war? So many didn't. I had them on both sides, and at least one of my Union ancestors was in Virginia where he was wounded. His brother was one of the main doctors for the Union forces and did several THOUSAND surgeries with the vast majority being amputations. I was horrified when I read that. The doctor also marched South where my other relatives lived and where his commander's name became a dirty word among every Southerner down to this day... Sherman. I am just fascinated by Civil War history and have read extensively on that topic, something else we have in common! :-). I have a distant cousin who is an historian and the cousin of famed. I il War historian, Shelby Foote. My greatest regret is that I never got to meet him. I posted a picture of my leg yesterday, and it looks like I fought in the Civil War, too!

    xo,

  7. Sorry for the typo... Civil War historian, but I imagine you know who Shelby. Foote is if you saw Ken Burns' masterful documentary. And me thinks you did. :-)

  15. I'm so excited about another little Henry, even if it is to be a girl. He is so cute. I can see a resemblance to you in these pictures of him and also his mom. That's a handsome soldier too, even if he is a Union. :)
