Flannel Baby Blanket with Satin Edge, Piglet

Waiting for Lucy

We're waiting for the phone call that will tell us that our daughter in Indiana has gone into labor. We're all 'waiting for Lucy,' the baby, to make her grand appearance into the world outside the womb.

Like every other grandchild in the family, she gets a Grandma-made flannel blankie with the 'silky' edge. All kids seem to love that satin edging. So that's what I've been working on lately.

When I finished making and tying the blanket, although the little white and pink stars are cute, it needed something. Then I put some eyelet in curves at one of the corners.

Not able to leave a good thing alone, I realized that I had about 14 inches of satin edging left over, and when I found that darling little Piglet at Hallmark, I knew what I'd do with it.

Attached by a satin umbilical cord

After making a casing out of the leftover satin edge, I ran a shorter piece of elastic through it, just because I liked that 'gathered' look better, and will attach one end to Piglet and the other end to the blanket. I don't want to sew it on, but thought I'd find a couple big diaper pins for that task.

Like Mama and Daddy
and the rest of us -
the 3 1/2 year old, waiting for his little sister.
Love that mischievous look!

  3. Very cute-- love Piglet! And you are so right about satin edging on blankies! My 9 year old still sleeps with her favorite one which has a very tattered satin edging. I don't think she'd let Mother replace it either!

  4. The blanket is just darling, and your sooo right about those satin edgings. All of my grands LOVE those too! I have made a few where the whole backing of the blanket is satin, though truthfully those are NOT my favorite to make, lol How exciting a baby on the way! Enjoy your day...

I hope Lucy arrives soon and that mother and daughter are both healthy, and what a beautiful 'Grammy' blanket! What a sweet idea, attaching Piglet to the blanket.

You did a great job, Judy, and I know how much they love these because I had a satin comforter my grandmother made that I adored.
