Right at the edge of one of the three villages that lie equidistant from our home, lies a house hidden behind this monstrous fortress/fence. I didn't see any guard dogs there, and no barbed wire, but it looks intimidating enough at first glance. The vine on the trellis betrays a little friendliness, however, so I'm not too worried.
Quite the front 'entry' with its roof and gigantic ants crawling on the wall to the side of the door.
Painting his fence in the late winter?? Nah, that's just a little trompe l'oeil. Don't you love it?! The owner, as seen around town, gives the appearance of abject poverty. Don't let that fool you either. It's a little live 3-dimensional trompe l'oeil, if you ask me. The story is that he sold something in Chicago some years back and made a fortune. He simply chooses to live frugally and have fun with his property.
The neighbor's horses. The wind must be coming from the southeast. They always stand facing away from the wind.
Late winter. Not much to graze on out here.

A good variety of fences for today!!
ReplyDeletethat 'fortress' is very different! and good for him if he enjoys his idiosyncracies! :)
ReplyDeletethanks for linking up with wisconsin scenes!
Wow, that first fence is a real study in individualism. Thanks for sharing. Have a great day!
ReplyDeleteSo you live in a quirky neighborhood? Ahhh, don't we all!
ReplyDeleteBTW, I thought you were kidding me with that cardinal song, but after hearing it on my walk this morning, I'm pretty sure that you aren't. Either that or you're in cahoots with a cardinal in Maine. I can be such a conspiracy theorist.
Morning, enjoying the fence posts, great assortment, Blessings Francine.
ReplyDeleteSuch lovely pictures.
ReplyDeleteI would love to have a fortress fence around my place like this. bob and i have talked about what we would do if we had the money, and what he has done is what we would do but not in snow country and NO ANTS. live or fake... love the horse and farm pics.
ReplyDeleteLove seeing the horses and snow scenes. Beautiful.
ReplyDeleteWhat fun! Great to see someone with a little imagination!
ReplyDeleteWell, I can definitely say I have never seen an entrance like this one- very bold!
ReplyDeleteWhat an interesting fence/gate/entry! The owner sounds rather interesting too.
ReplyDeleteThat first arch or gate is odd, isn't it? But I like things unique and love the one with the ants. I would probably not even notice the ants at first glance! Enjoy your day! It's in the 80s here all week! Come on down! Sweet hugs!
ReplyDeleteThose are quite the fortresses. I love the horses and the barn.
ReplyDeletelike how the horses know where to stand
ReplyDeleteI love the first picture with the tree framed by the fence.
ReplyDeleteThe 'fortress' one is interesting. Love the barn.
ReplyDeleteHI Judy Are animals clever. How come they always seem to know what to do and humans don't!! I love all the varied fences you have on this post.
ReplyDeleteGood fences make good neighbors. I am not crazy for those gates...odd. At least it isn't those bent over fat lady cutouts. LOL. Those things are fun for the BACK yard....not the front. I used to tease my mom...that is was good she was poor or she would have all that lawn art "stuff". Enjoy your day. xoxo,Susie
ReplyDeleteWhat an interesting property! Very beautiful farm scene, as well.

My fences
Love that first fence but of course, I always like the horses too.
ReplyDeleteThat is an amazing gate and fence. Definitely wants privacy!!
ReplyDeleteI grew up in Madison, so it is always nice to meet someone from Wisconsin. Hope the snow all melts soon!
The fortress put me in mind of a fort from an old western movie! But it is not an eyesore, so why not!
ReplyDeleteThere's a guy who dances to the beat of a different drummer!
ReplyDeleteVery interesting both the story and the fence, thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteSue
Pretty and whimsical photos! xoxo
ReplyDeleteOH! Gotta love that place behind the fence, Judy. Do you know anyone that has actually been invited inside that fence? I would like to see "the other side". lol Great fences all the way around- xo Diana
ReplyDeleteThat first fence is most unusual!
ReplyDeleteYoungest daughter went to UW Madison. She and her Wis hubby are awfully excited about the basketball game this weekend...which is being played right here in north Texas.
Nice pictures all of them. Even fake ants give me the creeps!!!
ReplyDeleteGreat photos, even the last winter scene. I do enjoy the hint of mystery and would seek some answers too, in a fairy tale sort of way. Bravo to that man as well!
ReplyDeleteOh, I'll bet Tex enjoyed those Wisconsin fences! These are great. Loved the assortment. Have a wonderful weekend!
ReplyDeleteVery interesting neighbor!
ReplyDeleteWow, that's a different kind of fence!
ReplyDeleteWow, I would be looking for a peep-hole to see what was behind that amazing fence! Love the fuzzy horses.
ReplyDeleteLovely fence work!!
ReplyDeleteThose gates are beautiful and someone is certainly talented with a paintbrush! What wonderful additions to the community.
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful collection of fences.
ReplyDeleteI love it that the fence is someone's thinking and art that is out of the box! Wish I knew the artist!
ReplyDeleteI love that roofed entry!
ReplyDeleteThat first fence is a little over the top but I simply love the painting.
ReplyDeleteWe just welcomed our fourth Grandchild earlier this month. Enjoy your visit.
Look at all that snow you still have!! Your neighbor sounds like an interesting person...it's quite the fence!
ReplyDeleteIt reminds me of a cowboy fort I had as a child.
