Frankoma was founded by John Frank in Norman, Oklahoma, in 1933. Frank had been a professor in ceramics at the University of Oklahoma at Norman from 1927 to 1936 and used light-hued local Ada clay in his initial products. - From Wikipedia
I found this Frankoma Prairie Green canteen, Thunderbird design, last year at a shop in Colfax. Remember Colfax? It's on the way to Colfax that I found that herd of Highland Cattle. Photos HERE. But I digress. Anyway, I liked the green and rusty color of the pottery and the shape of the canteen...
...and the sweet little creamer that stands about 4 1/2 inches.
And when the roofers appeared with this cute little wagon the other day, I immediately saw Frankoma pottery.
It just needs a nice satin finish.

i like that teapot and the colors are wonderful and YES I can SEE it in all the photos. my favorite and what i would add to my collection is the little trailer.. love it. i have a few bottles, really old ones and a few pieces of glass.

ReplyDeleteI have a small collection of teapots that have cats on them, or shaped like them. I have a collection of Cats Meow buildings that I am quickly getting tired of (after 15 years). For Christmas, I have a collection of Angels, Santas, and Snowmen.
Maybe we can call our four (real) cats a collection? :)

ReplyDeleteYes, I DO see it. I love that old wagon and the gunsmith shop. I have a collection of ironstone that kind of 'arrived' here from family members. ie. inherited. I do buy the odd piece though but don't go on the hunt for it as I have too much stuff now. I love the colours in the pottery you have and in nature. Beautiful!

Judy, I love pottery and I really love those colors in Frankoma. Now I will be on the lookout for it! I collect Ayers Pottery. I found it on a trip to Minnesota. We stopped in Hannibal Missouri and when I saw Steve Ayers pretty and relatively inexpensive pottery I had to have some and I have added to it over the years. I also collect Louisville Stoneware in Bachelor Button pattern. China and Pottery are my weaknesses.

Love your post! The Frankoma pottery is very pretty, so are the rest of your pictures. I have too many random collections, vintage glass pitchers, milk bottles, creamers, blue glass, vintage sewing patterns, Vintage fashion illustrations, and if they weren't so expensive I would also collect old houses. :)

ReplyDeleteI have so many collection that I'm embarrassed to talk about them. Do you know there is/was a Frankoma factory less than 30 minutes from Tulsa in a town called Sapulpa? I don't know if it is still open or not. We went there once and you could go thru and tour the process. Needless to say, there's a lot of Frankoma around here at sales. Will keep my eyes open for you.

ReplyDeleteI have a couple of Frankoma ware bean pots that my folks got on a trip to OK years ago. Mine don't have the green though. My favorite collection is a bunch of candle holders of the "Wee Willy Winkie" type, reminders of times gone by, for sure.

ReplyDeleteI should take a picture of, and post, an old box I have. I think it belonged to my great-grandmother. I think it's a jewelry box, but not sure. I don't want to get rid of it, but would like to know the value of it.
Although I don't spend that much money these days on things as the house is at bursting point, I like to think that I am / was a collector but like Mike says, some consider it hoarding !
