Greeting Passersby
Colfax, WI
If you wanted a great welcome rooster for your back door, you've missed your chance. This one was for sale at a store in Colfax last summer, but I see that the store is no longer in operation. How sad. How often does one come across a rooster like that? Wouldn't he look great, welcoming the visitors to your home?
Barn west of Rice Lake, WI
Most of the many barns in our area are painted either red or white. However, there is one, on the way to Birchwood, that is yellowish. I hope they got a great deal on yellow paint, because other than that, I can see no reason to paint a barn yellow. I love this classic Wisconsin barn.
Admittedly, our house is yellow. But that's a different story.

ReplyDeleteJudy, my daughter who has a collection of roosters would love this guy. We got her a metal one similar to this but he has on cowboy boots and a hat. Like you, I'm partial to the red barn.

ReplyDeleteHa! Ha! If someone really wants one of those roosters, there's a shop in Farmington, Minnesota that sells them! It's funny I've seen these random roosters around here lately, in various yards. Then I spotted one in a local gift shop, where they originated from! They are cute!

ReplyDeleteSome of the barns in our area are red but for the most part only weathered wood. They do look smart when painted as seen with the one you've shared.
there are yellow houses in our neighborhood, 5 of them, 3 i love 2 i don't... depends of the shade and the house... never seen a yellow barn though. i am with you on the classic red, my favorite barns are the natural unpainted wood, the ones that are falling down.
ReplyDeleteThat is a wonderful rooster! I have never personally seen a yellow barn, except on a blog post- I would wonder the same thing, (did they get a great deal on yellow paint) but it would still be kind of cool to see.

a yellow barn. i don't think i've ever seen one. i love blue. saw on while on our travels. so cool. we have seen several similar rooster like that too. ( :

I came across a rooster very much like that one last summer while visiting a great antique shop in Nashville. I love the idea of having one of these too. That is a beautiful red bard too :)

ReplyDeleteYellow doesn't seem like an appropriate color for a barn. My house has pale yellow siding: I wanted a color that would look good even if it faded a bit.

That's quite a rooster! No Colfax over here - presumably a chainstore of some sort? Is blood the traditional colourant in red barns? That's what they used to use over here - usually to get that nice pink colour you see on some timber-framed houses.

ReplyDeleteI would like to see the yellow barn, having NEVER seen one before. LOVE yellow houses, not sure about barns though. I also really like the little yellow fence. Wouldn't it look pretty as a flower border? The rooster, there is one here exactly like it!!! A big one and a little one. I had thought the people living there made them, but now I see you can buy them!

ReplyDeleteRed barns are traditional and look great, but I say go for the yellow or whatever color that suits the individual. I'd love to see a photo of a yellow barn.

ReplyDeleteWhat a GREAT rooster. When I was three I determined to have a rooster in my kitchen when I grew up. Can't remember why I made that determination at such a young age, but, I did, and I do!

As for that crazy metal rooster, I was lucky to find one at a junk store and he now lives in my garden. Oh that barn!!! I so have a love of red barns. ReplyDeleteJudy, our local HEB grocery has these for sale...I think it is about the 3rd year they have them. A neighbor's daughter is a pretty successful author, and in her book (I think it is Pretend It Never Happened) she tells about buying this rooster on her anniversary, taking it home and placing it at the front door. She rang the doorbell, then ran and hid to watch the expression on her hubby's face. He was used to such high-jinx so wasn't that impressed. So she positioned it where it was looking into his office window! Book is SO FUNNY...but in my opinion, x-rated. In fact, I told her dad that she needed to have her mouth washed out with strong soap! Thanks for sharing your life with us!
