Note: No Hodgepodge Wednesday today. Joyce is busy moving house. (I used to think it was so odd, the fact that the British say 'moving house' whereas we just say 'moving,' but actually, to say that Joyce is 'moving' doesn't tell you much, except that she's not sitting still. It's yet another case where the British are just so clever!)
The farmer who rents our land is cutting the alfalfa today. I've shown photos of that process before, but in case you missed it, here's a link so you can see that awesome harvesting machinery.

I wanted to include this photo because of the red buds of the maple tree behind that barn. The maple trees give us color (besides green) twice a year; first, in the springtime when they're budding, and again the the fall, after the production of chlorophyll stops and the leaves turn red, yellow, or gold.

Empty house across the road
Photo taken at a friend's home in late May.
Wisconsin has the most beautiful rolling hills.
(Of course, much of the year they're white, not green, but, that's the price we pay for all of the spring/summer/fall beauty...)

Look how much greener everything is in May and June!
A Random Thought:
Did you watch 'Shakespeare Uncovered' on PBS last night? It's a series we love. You can watch all the episodes online at THIS LINK. Last night's episode was Jeremy Irons with Henry IV and Henry V. We had previously watched 'The Hollow Crown,' so this was especially interesting.

Good Morning, Judy. I love the Maple tree and would especially love to see it in Autumn. I enjoyed the link about the alfalfa. Such pretty green hills and lovely sky shots. Wishing you a very nice day. Mildred
ReplyDeleteThanks for the Shakespeare tip and link. I've followed your recommendations before and been pleased. :-) Wisconsin certainly has plenty of barns for you to photograph. I do love a good storm cloud. Yours are beautiful. Lastly, we've also heard Brits refer to moving house as "shifting"---wonder if that is an old term gone out of fashion. "We're going to shift house."
ReplyDeleteWell, we haven't discovered Shakespeare Uncovered. Will have to check it out. Your photos are so beautiful. Almost makes me want to travel west.... in the summer! :)
ReplyDeleteShakespeare Uncovered? I'll have to look it out.
ReplyDeleteI chuckled about 'moving house' - I always pictured a little old man toting a castle around on his back. =D
i love that sky in the first shot, and you have so much beauty all around you.. and when it is all white it is still beautiful, just cold... i like the moving house, that makes so much more sense... now that i am thinking about it , moving household goods might be better.... no Shakespeare for me, i got all i wanted in 12th grade..but it is great they have it on PBS for those who love it. I love NPR and listen to it when in the car.
ReplyDelete"Moving house`` I like that. Oh your photos are beautiful. Hug B
ReplyDeleteJudy, I love all your photos. Especially the clouds and skies. Hope you are having good weather today. We are in for a very hot day...but some sunshine. Blessings, xoxo,Susie
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely collection of photos. Bucolic, you could say.
ReplyDeleteLike others, I wasn't aware of Shakespeare Uncovered. I'm eager to watch all the episodes.
ReplyDeleteThis former farmgirl is curious about the apparatus on the front of the tractor. It doesn't look like a loader. Do you have any idea what it is?
you've got some beautiful surroundings!
ReplyDeleteGorgeous photos . . . I like your eye!
ReplyDeleteIt is amazing how fast things green up! In just two short months is it green again.
ReplyDeleteLove the British way of putting things! Moving house is perfectly descriptive.
Always enjoy your photos. That first one is magnificent! The sky is gorgeous.....
ReplyDeleteSo, tell me again which day of the year is spring, summer, fall, respectively?
ReplyDeleteLove the sky in the first picture Judy..Gorgeous..The collage is pretty as well.
ReplyDeleteI love photos of landscape. I took lots of them on our vacation last week from Missouri to North Carolina and back. Beautiful scenery!
ReplyDeleteOne thing I love about visiting blogger friends is that I get to see pictures of different areas. :)
I love the old barns ! They are so different to the European once !
ReplyDeleteThey sure are clever, and some of their meanings are just so darn perfect. I bought myself a book (pretty thick too) on British words and sayings. Your first photo, wow, what a capture of that sky! I always enjoy your photos, very pretty, just moving from photo to photo!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful farmland photo's!
ReplyDeleteYour state's landscape and weather is a lot like ours here in New Brunswick. Beautiful photos Judy. I like seeing the spring ones and noting how the trees have filled in. You are about a week or two ahead of us in the haying end of things. I don't think the field behind us, which is usually rented out to a local farmer, is going to be planted this year. It's not looking very pretty with the dandelion seed heads at this point. Have a nice afternoon.
ReplyDeletePam
You live in a gorgeous area, Judy. Your photography of the sky is noteworthy. I love to see all the wonders of the heavens. You have captured them beautifully. I just adore the way the British speak about things in general--it always sounds so much better than the way I speak or phrase things! ♥
ReplyDeleteJust the phrase 'rolling hills' whether green or not sounds nice for your state. I imagine you've already poked around inside the empty house...the stories those walls could tell.
ReplyDeleteSpeaking of the British - and Irish, a fellow last year on our tour told us he thought our term of bathroom or washroom was vulgar - guess loo is better!
Actually, even though that old house is at the end of our drive, I've never been to any of those old buildings. We're very big on property rights out here and wouldn't think of going onto someone else's land without permission. Not that I'm not curious. :-))
DeleteJudy, really stunning photos of the old barns and the rolling hills of Wisconsin. Hope the house becomes inhabited again so you have some nice neighbors. Maybe they will get it all back in shape sometime.
ReplyDeleteYour photos are also so moving. You have so many things great to see and share.
ReplyDeleteI come here to get my fix on farm beauty and I sure got some today - I just love love love your home. Just stopping by to say hello. HELLO!
ReplyDeleteMy favorite photo today, Judy, is at your friend's home. What a gorgeous view. I would have to go for a hike to those hills. Deb
ReplyDeleteHello Judy, you do live in a beautiful area. The trees, greenery and landscapes are lovely. Beautiful sky captures. Have a great evening and week ahead!
ReplyDeleteLovely farm photos. I love all the greens of Spring. Everything so fresh. Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteMB
I think I would love the beauty of Wisconsin but I' m afraid I can no longer take the cold. Your photos make me want to visit.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful countryside with gorgeous barns. great for hiking.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful scenery. I think I remember that harvesting post but I am going to the link just in case : )
ReplyDeleteI LOVE the fragrance of alfalfa being cut!!! Brings back memories of my youth in Nebraska.
ReplyDeleteOh, and that moody stormy sky is certainly gorgeous.
Enjoyed your post today Judy.
I very much like the look of the rolling hills of Wisconsin and the the weathered farms. You do live in a beautiful place!
ReplyDeleteVery pretty, Judy. We live in the area here in NY called "The Irish Hills"--green all summer long due to the extreme winters. Thank you for the smiles. Blessings
ReplyDeleteNice photos; one and all.
ReplyDeletei love your sun shots those are breathtaking!! awesome! ( :
ReplyDeletethat 1st shot is scary with those clouds/storm clouds it looks like to me ...but i am not a weather person. fun times. have a good one.
Judy... thanks for the PBS suggestion. We are looking for a new series to watch. Have you ever done a post on photography! Yours is positively breathtaking and I would love a few of your secrets. Have a wonderful weekend.
ReplyDeletemoving house sounds odd, but somehow more correct!!! i love when it storms, in the middle of the day. the house gets dark, i put my p.j.'s on and make brownies. YeP, i love a good storm!! beautiful images!!!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful pictures:) Worthy of printing and framing! Sending HUGS and PRAYERS your way!
ReplyDeleteLovely photos as always, sweet Judy. I especially liked the old barn with the Plum Blossoms....very pretty!
ReplyDeleteThanks for making me smile with your beautiful pictures. Enjoy your day! Hugs!
Gorgeous photos, Judy! I especially like the sky shots, would love to just lie back and watch the sky change all day!
ReplyDeleteI have been wanting to come back to Wisconsin...for the barns. I had not even thought about how pretty it would be once fall really sets in.
ReplyDeleteI am loving your shots here...specially that first fence shot. LOve the sky in that first shot, and of course the other sky shots are pretty wonderful, too. Haven't watched the PBS series...
I might be in love ... with your photo of the rolling hills, trees and inviting open "gate" ... beautiful!!!
ReplyDeleteI absolutely love those pictures of the old barns. Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteLike that old barn. Looks like a very pretty state, I've never been there so enjoy your photos.
ReplyDeleteWonderful sky shots.
ReplyDeleteWonderful photos here today. Some great barns, I like the rusty roof of your neighbors barn. Those rolling green hills were lovely. - Great fences too.
ReplyDeleteThat first photo is so striking! Hmmmm...wonder what those clever Brits would say. Sorry, I'm being a cheeky little bugger. Oops. There I go again. =D Your rolling grren hills look a great deal like our rolling green hills. And I missed that program...must check my listings!
ReplyDeleteAmazing pictures . Call me crazy but there is something cool about that mailbox. Many pretties
ReplyDeleteCindy
Not so easy to pick a favorite here. maybe the rolling hills shot.
ReplyDeleteEnjoyed
ReplyDeleteMuch love...
beautiful shots! i've never heard the term "moving house" before but it really makes much more sense doesn't it?!
ReplyDeletebeautiful shots! i've never heard the term "moving house" before but it really makes much more sense doesn't it?!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful shots. Charming old barns and farmhouses and lovely blooming trees.
ReplyDeletefantastic.
ReplyDeleteLovely pictures! Those are some dramatic looking clouds too.
ReplyDeleteLove the old barn and the tree ... And the changing sky. And the green beautiful hills. And your comment about the white most of the time. I say kind of the opposite about where we are now, when I am missing daffodils and lilacs etc... The price of not having real winter is not having real spring! Life is all about trade offs!
ReplyDeleteGorgeous scenery, love the old farmhouses and trees. Love the dramatic clouds.
ReplyDeleteEnjoyes seeing all your pictures. Good work done for harvesting...
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely gorgeous! p.s. I don't post my blog url in my profile (I've had too many trolls), but I blog at: https://mysunnynook.wordpress.com/. :)
ReplyDeleteHi,
ReplyDeleteAmazing cloud photos. WOW!
I like the "moving house" :-) Well done!!
Love all the old barns in your neck of the woods. Beautiful shots!
