Wisconsin Barns, Amish Shocks, Summer Skies


July especially, but also early August, has the best sunny days in Northwest Wisconsin with beautiful blue skies and huge, puffy white clouds.  This photo is of the Amish neighbor's shocks of oats. They look like they've been rained on a couple times. They'll eventually dry, and then they'll be processed through a threshing machine to separate the oats from the straw. (Thank you Mr. C.)

Summer in Wisconsin is always incredibly busy. We have so much living to cram into three short months, and it's a bit depressing that we're already into August. There are also FIVE of our family birthdays in August and a garden that looks like its tomatoes and beans are going to be ready for harvest for canning (as well as daily dinners) this month. Lots to do, lots to do. Blogging is getting farther down on the list, I'm afraid.

    From the mowing,gardening, working again and my sons Wedding.
    Ive been feeling so overwhelmed and a bit mean. shhh

    Such beautiful photos Judy...and you are right about those lovely clouds. A bright blue cloudless sky is very lovely but I much prefer some puffy clouds to make the picture complete! I wonder who it was that messed with your blog and accidentally put that last photo in?? What a li'l cutie pie :)

    Three thoughts concerning this post. 1. You should send your photos to the Wisconsin Travel Bureau and the Chamber of Commerce. 2. Have you ever thought of doing a post on photo tips?     Judy, how interesting that you live near an Amish neighborhood. There is an Amish movie that I've watched, and it is a beautiful story about forgiveness. I cry every time. This is such a vast countryside, and looks so very peaceful.

    Oh I know Judy! It feels like we go at mach speed in August to fit everything in! It is crazy how fast it's gone and that we are facing September around the corner. Yikes!

    Not sure about that grandson photo--there is some look but it's hard to tell for sure! Sweet goat--your farm photos are amazing--hard to believe there is a farm on Fifth Avenue! Enjoy all your blogging distractions. Our hot weather is going nowhere, but people certainly seem focused on fall now and school starts soon for some. It seems so rushed to me. I'm glad I don't have to go back to school!

    I love this time of year in Wisconsin too! And sadly, we do need to cram everything in! Would love to have a neighbor like that, the oats are beautiful and once in awhile a little sweet face shows up in my blog posts too. What a cutie!

    Beautiful pictures of the farm and fields. Of course we have the same short span of time to get things done here in Michigan. I always enjoy seeing the Amish farms- they're usually very neat and take you back in time. We have 5 birthdays in August too! The pumpkin spice soap sounds wonderful!     I've not seen "shocks" before and found that very interesting.

    Having grown up in Michigan I thoroughly understand the concept of cramming those summer months full of outdoor fun. I loved the glimpses of your area. So pretty and peaceful looking.
    Your little visitor is adorable.
    Thank you for your recent visit. I answered your question about the purple peppers in comments, but in case you didn't see it, I'm sorry to say I don't know the name of them. We bought them from a farmer's market in May and there were no tags with the plants. The farmer pointed out her different offerings and we chose based on what sounded interesting. I guess I should have jotted down the names as this middle aged brain doesn't seem to retain that info for long. Ha!

    Aw, gee, I wonder how that baby picture got in there! ;) I have an August birthday, too. I remember those hot August days, keeping an eye on the canner's pressure gauge while more batches were being processed in the cool of the basement. Lovely photos.

    What a beautiful spot you live in. The summer months seem to show it's best colours. I like the goat photo although I'm sure the poor fellow would like to get off that chain. I guess goats are known to get into mischief, too. You do sound very busy this time of year as I'm sure you have a large garden. I just have a few plants this year and the tomatoes are going crazy.
