Kettlewell
I have never been to England in the late spring or summer, when the flowers are in full bloom. Some might think that England looks a little bleak in mid March, but there is something hauntingly beautiful about all that stone and brick. Look at that steep hill that's the backdrop to this photo! Besides, you're bound to find bits of red here and there! (many of which are courtesy of HRH)

So, until airfare becomes reasonable, I'll be enjoying virtual travel to England.
Have a great weekend, everyone!
Lovely photo's today - I especially like the one with the phone boot. The red stands out towards the stone. Hope you're having a good day.
ReplyDeleteI love that first photo! Actually, I love them all but the first is my favorite. I love these little virtual tours through England.. thank you!
ReplyDeleteI agree, I love the first photo, too! My neighbors probably wouldn't appreciate it too much, but I would love to have that phone booth in my front yard!
ReplyDeleteNever heard of Kettlewell, now I must go there! But I'm just not up for such a long flight so will continue enjoying virtual travel to England with you here at the gorgeous Cranberry Morning!
ReplyDeleteLove the photos! The first one looks like a painting.
ReplyDeleteIt is hauntingly beautiful. Maybe it just reminds us of Wisconsin, March can look a lot like that here. (Last week we had rain for most of the week and in England it was sunny! and warmer.)
Red is my all time favorite color so I particularly enjoyed this post! Have a great weekend!
ReplyDeleteAs always, beautiful pictures. Hope you have a good weekend.
ReplyDeleteA well put together set of photos. I must admit that the country telephone boxes do add something to the scene.
ReplyDeleteI've got a story about "Rainy Muker" & the tea shop on the left hand side of your picture. Some folks my age from church were pestering me to do another walk that involved a tea shop at the end and maybe half way around. After weeks of research I came up with a Muker to Keld walk. As Muker was difficult to access from the three different starting points we left from, some were a little late as they lost their way. On seeing the tea shop from the car park, some thought it would be a good idea to start the day in there while we waited for the others. It was of course an excuse as there was no phone signal in Swaledale. The last car load of people did find the rest of the party in the tea shop but only because they wanted to go in there as well. The walk started eventually at 12:30pm and ended back at Muker about 4:30pm. At about 3:30pm, high on the Pennine way, the heavens opened & the only thing on everyones mind was the quickening pace and the hot tea. On reaching the shop, we discovered that it was everyone else's idea too & by the time we waited for a seat, it would be closing time .... good job we went in at the start after all !!
Thanks for taking me to England, I've never been there either, so thanks for the trip!
ReplyDeleteI want to visit York again. Love love love your photos of England. It was a nice trip down memory lane for me.

I've been to Kettlewell and it is the most amazing place ever! My parents, who were living in England at the time, rented a holiday cottage (it was really a three-bedroom house) for Christmas and we (my sister and I and our families) flew over from the States for a wonderful week. The cottage was called Heathlands and it was at the upper end of the village. We were able to walk down to the church for Christmas Eve service and to the tea room, little shops and pubs that served the most amazing food. Above us was the glorious Yorkshire Dales National Park where we went for walks. You can see the house here, http://www.dales-holiday-cottages.com/WebPages/Dales/ProductDetailPage.aspx?ACODE=DC0931&SCODE=DC0931&RCODE=782, and the eighth photograph is the view from the backyard which was frosty in the December mornings when we were there. May I use your photo with the telephone box? My blog is private but if you would like an invitation, please e-mail me and I would be happy to send you one. I love your post for Her Majesty's birthday; I've been running some England posts but I'm afraid I completely missed that special day this year - just too much going on right now.
ReplyDeleteYes, Emily, you may use my photo as long as you make sure to leave my watermark on it and give me credit. If you go to my search bar on the sidebar of Cranberry Morning and type in 'Kettlewell,' you will find more Kettlewell photos I took. They're among my favorites in Yorkshire! Thanks for telling me about the holiday cottage. I followed the link. We also stayed at a holiday cottage north of York for a week with our daughter and son-in-law. It was a good bargain and a wonderful experience! Great accommodations and so handy. Loved it. My next stay is going to be HERE. Doesn't it look fabulous!
