1. It's fall. Y'all. My favorite season of the year! What's something you love to do this time of year that makes you feel it's officially fall? And unrelated to that, do you ever say-'y'all'?

I drive through the neighborhood, taking photos of some of the many beautiful woods. And yes, I say 'y'all' quite a bit. It seems like a very useful word. But I never say 'y'all's', as in  'The party's at y'all's house. Useful or not, I can't quite make it feel natural. :-)

2. When did you last have a falling out with someone? Has it been resolved?

I'm a resolver by nature, hate to have people mad at me, but would rather confront to resolve, than let things fester. So, these things don't happen too often. I think there are some people who refuse to have things resolved, and like to keep a little 'starter' for another conflict. Me? When that happens, I just dismiss it and move on. Who needs conflict.

3. A song you love with the word 'fall' in it's title?

'Raindrops Keep Fallin' on my Head.' Yeah, a really old song. And I could play it on the piano when I was a kid. In fact, I'm pretty sure that if I walked over to the piano right now, my fingers would play it again. Amazing thing, that music/fingers memory!

4. What's something you've recently let 'fall by the wayside?'

The garden. For this year. I've managed only to plant and harvest, but not anything in between.

Vegetable scraps left from making soup
But I did put the celery leaves in it later

5. When did you last attend an event, read a book, watch a movie, try a new recipe, or visit a shop-town-tourist attraction that fell short of your expectations? In what way?

When we went to see The Hobbit in the theater (a long time ago), I wondered why on earth anyone would try to get there opening night. The only redeeming feature was Richard Armitage, whom I kept thinking of as Mr. Thornton. That helped. A lot.

You have to read the book and see the movie.
It makes all the difference.

6. Describe a time you said or thought, 'The apple doesn't fall far from the tree."

All our grandsons. In many ways at many times. :-)

7. Was today better than yesterday? Why or why not?

Today was better than 6 months ago at my dental cleaning. Someone involved with the Inquisition had worked on my teeth at that time. I think she crawled back into the crypt, for a new girl was there this time and was much, much better and more gentle! I went home with all my teeth intact and didn't need a blood transfusion or anything.
Today was a bit better than yesterday, in that I got out there with my camera and got some first fall pics.

8.  Insert your own random thought here.

Is it just me, or are those people who wait WEEKS IN LINE to get an iPhone totally CRAZY?? I mean, are there going to be only a limited number made? Don't those people have jobs?? And it's the same thing when people camp out days at a time before a concert, or have to be part of a crowd that pushes into the theater at midnight on opening night. Whatever that gene is, I don't have it. I never even plan to go to a movie on opening night. I PLAN to go at least a week later, so that I can choose where I want to sit and not have all those other people using up the oxygen. And if the movie's gone from the theater then, I can always watch it later on DVD, in my home, which is more convenient and cheaper. We can buy a lot of Mike & Ike, make our own popcorn, etc. for what one ticket at the theater costs.

What's the longest you'll wait in line...for anything?

  1. Happy Fall!!
    Love the deer photo.
    What adorable visitors.
I don't understand the first of anything..
    I do not like crowds,
I ordered my iPhone it was on back order!?!
    It was here Monday morning.
    Yes I love it.
I don't have a house phone and I able to be cool and keep in contact with my kids who live in another state.
    Everyday!
My granddaughter has to help me learn how to use it but I get to bond with her over it too.
    Have a great day!

  2. I am pretty sure people lining up for a new issue phone is a commentary on America, but I won't go there today : ) I love the deer and we have some regular visitors here, especially this time of year. The dentist is not my favorite thing. Just sayin'!

  3. I finally said something to our dentist about the hygienist from **** ... thankfully The schedule me with a kinder, gentler hygienist, but I still don't like going to the dentist.

We are out in the middle of nowhere just about, in a small, new subdivision but have never seen deer. My daughter lives in a large, established subdivision and sees deer frequently. Go figure.

  4. Enjoyed reading this and your deer are sweet. I think they would fit in better in your area than on our city streets, They were at our front door last week eating hubby's new bushes. Raindrops is a favorite of mine too. Funny I played some songs from that movie on the piano too. I remember waiting in line for gasoline in about 1974. That was not an option then if I wanted to get to work. But a phone? That is an odd one.

  5. Sometimes I wonder where I live as I have heard nothing about the lines for i-phones. Whatever is the matter with people? lol That is just downright crazy. LOVE the pictures. And yes, a gentle hygienist is worth their weight in gold! LOVE mine! Enjoy your day!

  6. I am not a line waiter either. Of course I am not into the latest technology either. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

  7. Look at that breathtaking foliage - WOW. That is why I love fall so much :)

  8. Love your pictures, it's so much like fall there. Aren't deer pretty...till they run in front of you, which is scary. I agree about the phone. I am not a phone crazy person at all. I have one, now I do wish it did more. But if I did not have it, no big deal to me. I told my husband I only needed a flare gun if I had car troubles.:):) He made me get a phone. Blessings to you. xoxo,Susie

  9. Your photos are lovely. You're making me want to get out with my camera and hunt for beauty.

I'm with you on the waiting in line days on end for something. Makes no sense to me either.

BTW--that fig and brown sugar soap sounds luscious.

    Have a great week!

  10. Looks like you're living in a beautiful spot in the world to enjoy Fall. My dog would have a fit over those deer!
I see by your answers that we have much in common. No sir, none of those things are worth waiting in line for. I remember a guy who cried on tv because he was so excited and happy that In 'n Out Burger had come to our town. Lines for weeks waiting on burgers. I finally got around to it about a year later. ;-)

  11. Such gorgeous photos, as always, Judy! Love those fall colors! I am with you 100% on your random thought...people have just lost it these days and I don't get it. Nothing is so important to me that I'm willing to stand in long lines to get it. Thanks, I'll pass.

  12. Not my longest wait in line, but the other day at the grocery store, a lady started counting out pennies, nickles and dimes (maybe a few quarters) to pay a $40.00 grocery bill. I thought the check out clerk and I were going to lose our minds! There were people behind me, so I had no choice but to wait on this ridiculous scene.

  13. beautiful photos. the deer, the sumac, the shadows on the lawn chair. :)

i say y'all now and then. 30 yrs in texas, even a former wisconsinite can't fight it. 'you guys' would get me deported. ;)

way to go on the dentist cleaning!

  14. We have some resident deer, too. All summer, a mother and two babies have been crossing our field, going back and forth to the woods. I held my breath, afraid they'd find and eat our garden.

I don't get the 'standing in line' thing either! The longest I've ever waited in line, for anything, is for the attractions at Disneyworld, and I've had no desire to go back since then!

    ReplyDelete
  15. Judy, being a Southerner I use the word Yall all the time and you are correct...the word is plural on its own, no need to add an s. I am like you in many ways...I have the iphone 5 and would not sleep for weeks on the street waiting for anything except bread if I was starving.lol...

    ReplyDelete
  16. Even when I was younger, I would not have stood in line for a phone. Your fall colors are lovely. I skipped the Hobbit - something for my son-in-law but not for me.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Love the deer! :) Grands look so cute, and here in Western Pa we don't say y'all...we say yinz , ha ha

  18. Love all those beautiful fall pictures!

  19. beautiful fall colors and if we had hem here i would be wandering taking photos to... the only line i stand in is the one at Walmart to pay for my needed items... we stand in line for nothing.. i just had a memory jog.. once i stood in line of about 8 people to get my photo taken holding a baby lion. at the mall... did not want the pic, just wanted to hold the lion...the majority of things i buy, i watch TV while waiting for UPS to deliver. LOL

  20. Oh my word! Your trees are beautiful! We are just starting to see color on the tops of the trees. But the weather is certainly changing.
Not much for lines or crowds either. Patience always pays off. If you wait a bit for technology to take it's next jump, then the "old" model is so much more reasonable priced!

  21. Oh I love your deer visitors, sweet face is right. Beautiful Gall scenery, my favorite season too...Blessings Francine.

  22. Good song choice. About the only thing I'm willing to wait in line for is a good ride at Disney World. Otherwise, hopefully the lines I'm in aren't more than 20 minutes. And while I really like my older iPhone, I would not wait just to get it on opening day. In fact, I would avoid that like the plague. Love the pictures in your blog. So pretty.

    ReplyDelete
  23. First of all, magnificent fall photos! Oh, how I love sumac! Beautiful shots! Secondly, I loved The Hobbit (had recently read the book to our grandson)--it's funny how different people have such different tastes! And thirdly, YES I think it is absolutely ridiculous that people will wait in line for an iphone, or any other new gadget! I'm sorry, but I think the world has absolutely lost it's mind!

Have a great week! As always, love your blog.

    ReplyDelete
  24. It's already beautiful in your neck of the woods!!
I like your comment about some folks keeping a little 'starter'for the next conflict. Isn't that the truth!!

    ReplyDelete
  25. Lovely shots and colours, was just thinking this week that I haven't any recent Autumn colours in my photo library.
Can't understand the techno queue jumpers, it's as if they are better than someone else because they got there first. I saw a Youtube clip last week of the first person to buy the new iPhone in a city in Australia, he was interviewed as he got it out of the box and fell to the ground. Personally I can't believe that people pay such extraordinary monthly rentals.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Fun comments. That would be a lot of work for me to answer so many questions.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Your fall pictures are so beautiful! I won't wait in line for much at all. I'm like you. We don't even attend movies at the theatre and we do buy them, if we know we'll like them, and watch them at home at our leisure. Great post!

    ReplyDelete
  28. I love your deer! So special. =) Enjoyed reading your answers. I'm not
very good at waiting in line either.
My son in law said he watched something about this the other day. He said the first person to get the new phone actually dropped it when they handed it to him. So funny, guess it didn't stay new very long. ;)
    Blessings,
    Valerie

  29. Love your "fall-ish" photos! (Don't forget that trees is the photo challenge theme in November.) The longest times I have waited in line have been because of government incompetence - driver's license renewal, paying property taxes, post office. Well, you get the picture. And I am clearly not a member of the instant gratification generation. I love new electronic gadgets as well as the next person. But you have to have some screws loose to stand in line to buy something just because it is brand new. People should just chill and get it in a few weeks or months. Better yet, when they can afford it, LOL.

    ReplyDelete
  30. LOL ~ your random thought, really has me laughing :-)
Just met a fella at Sam's Club who stood in line to get the I Phone 6! He was pretty proud of himself. ;-)

    ReplyDelete
  31. Nope, it's not just you. They are crazy. Certifiable. LOL Fall temps have found their way to us. At least yesterday and today. I think they will stay for a while. Hopefully we are finished with anything above the 70s. I always remember that song from Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid. Remember that movie? I could play it on the piano too!

    ReplyDelete
  32. Wow!! You're already in the heart of Fall!! Please blow some of your "cool" down this way!!!

    ReplyDelete
  33. Oh, I'm with you, I have way more to do than wait in lines! It's insane!

    Such gorgeous pics of fall.

    Happy rest of the week!

    ReplyDelete
  34. Judy, we don't wait in line for anything. I always wonder if those people just don't have anything better to do!

    ReplyDelete
  35. I love all your answers here, Judy. I won't wait in line for much of anything...except to get into something we might have tickets for without assigned seating.
I don't like crowds anymore so I would never go to a "first night" anything.

My son says the new LARGE size Iphone is about like a piece of toast and awkward to use as a phone-but nice for the larger screen. He doesn't think the larger one is "stable" and that they will probably have problems with breakage and screens if they are not careful with them. He is a rep so knows all the ins and outs.

Love the picture of the boys! xo Diana

  36. Such lovely creatures to look out your window and see! They are so beautiful. A few years ago, one ran into our car on the road. Luckily, all three of us survived. Your fog shot is truly divine, with just the slightest bit of pink! That one s my favorite. We have lots of sumac and I never knew what it was till now, YEAH!! It is so beautiful in the fall, like a flaming bush (makes me think of Moses and the burning bush).

    ReplyDelete
  37. I love your Autumn photos and just how wonderful that is to have deer in your front yard!

    ReplyDelete
  38. Beautiful color in your corner. I have not been out of the neighborhood in over a week so I am stuck with the pale, sickly yellows here. I must get out, though my corner is still in the "low" color zone.

Always interesting to read your comments on these Hodge Podges. I wait in line at the bank and I wait in line at the grocery store and I wait a lot in the doctor's office. Guess that I have some patience after all.

    Keep enjoying the views!

    ReplyDelete
  39. Fun post. Loved your Deer and the doggie watching them. Also loved the fall colors. Sumac is really pretty isn't it.
I hate standing in lines and I agree it's way cheaper to wait for a movie to watch at home than paying theater prices.

    ReplyDelete
  40. That first picture is amazing! When I was younger (a lot), every July 14th, I waited in line for several hours in front of Paris' opera for their yearly free performance. It was worth every hour I waited ;)

    ReplyDelete
  41. Judy,
The deer are such special animals to me, and every chance I get, I take pictures of them. It is certainly looking like Autumn around your neck of the woods. Gorgeous colors of oranges, reds, and yellows. I really like these pictures.
